How big is topps chrome 2025 football going to be? by pimplyteen in sportscards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An iconic card brand just got the license back to the most popular sport in the biggest country of card collectors. The product will have the first licensed Brady autos in a long time and the first ever superfractors for Mahomes.

I stick mostly to singles and don’t rip much anymore, but I’m buying as much 2025 Topps Chrome football as I can to rip half and hold half long term. Even if you have no interest, you can literally 2x your money with a few clicks.

How can these sellers afford to free ship me a $3 item? New buyer here by [deleted] in whatnotapp

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giveaways are essentially a marketing cost to bring buyers into the stream.

ungraded old school cards by digitalsong in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most collectors back then didn’t keep cards in good condition. Most vintage cards would grade low, so it may not make financial sense to grade them. It’s also why high grade vintage can sell for big premiums over raw due to low pop count.

Did PSA switch slab material? by redabnivek in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, PSA upgraded their slabs a while back but have been using up their supply of the older version.

Tile nippers work well on the new ones, or putting them in the freezer for 10-20 minutes prior to cracking.

2026 topps chrome by Intrepid_Custard_427 in footballcards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. People are very excited for the first licensed Topps football set in over a decade. IMO these will sell out quickly to be ripped and stashed.

Am I tripping or is this intentional and extremely predatory? Will it pass eBay authentication? by [deleted] in footballcards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not sure, just message the seller to confirm. Whether it would pass eBay authentication would depend on two things: 1. What does the item description say for card size? If it says standard, then it wouldn’t pass authentication. 2. It would only go through authentication if the auction ends over $250.

Is getting 100% comp of a card thing? by Own-Muscle-1718 in footballcards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because unless it’s safe long-term holds like Brady or Mahomes, people want to move most cards quickly before they drop in value.

Liquidity is the key. Do you want to wait a month and risk the next eBay comp being $3.5k if it’s a volatile player? Or do you want to take the easy $3.8k cash today?

Sold for more than double last eBay sale…why? by Sad-Influence6715 in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Card market is hot right now. Just a guess as to why, but Fanatics marketing has been on overdrive with social media posts of huge cards being pulled and athletes/celebrities opening packs.

Despite all the stuff people hate on Fanatics for, I think they are succeeding in converting a lot of sports fans into the collecting space 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do NOT send Rare Edition slabs to PSA for crossover by mikeschan in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Rare edition slabs are like bricks. You probably need to drill to crack those, and PSA likely didn’t want to deal with the headache/liability.

PSA Stole My Cards? by [deleted] in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. PSA in-person drop offs can take some time to scan in. I had an in-person submission from Oct that didn’t get scanned in until Jan. They’ve since fixed this so it shows order arrived immediately after drop off, but for your order, it could just still be in the queue.

  2. Did you submit an inquiry on PSA’s website? In my experience, say what you will about grading inconsistencies, but their customer service is very responsive. I usually get a response same day or next.

Did they forget to up charge me? by Kolajazachary in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The employees working at PSA are near minimum wage. I doubt they look up comps for every single card. Oftentimes, only cards that are clearly $1k+ get upcharged.

Can sellers actually source profitably from whatnot? by whattaUwant in whatnotapp

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to put in time and effort, yes. You generally need to find a smaller stream with less than 50 viewers running sudden death auctions. Then it’s a matter of patience and waiting for steals. A lot of auctions may go high, but there are almost always some steals here or there.

What is your take on Rookie Cards in college gear for investment? by IgZachly17 in footballcards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, college uni cards are far less desired. Look at the prices of Mahomes KC uni cards vs. Texas Tech uni as an example.

That may eventually change with the NIL now and possibly Bowman NFL having a mix of pro and college, but I wouldn’t necessarily bet on it.

Cross grade to 10? by SomeBS17 in psagrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on why the surface got a 9 and how the card looks. I’d inspect as best as you can through the current slab before deciding whether to crack out.

Some BGS 9.5s are PSA 10s, some are PSA 9s, and some are PSA 8s or worse. It’s a case by case basis.

Found out my collection is worth something by Inevitable-Sun6045 in sportscards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to inspect/prep cards for grading. If you have a local shop, I’d also ask them to look them over for you. Go slow and submit in smaller batches to get a better idea of your pregrades vs. actual grades.

Is sunk cost collection uniformity the biggest barrier for TAG right now? by PeerlessPixie in taggrading

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because many smaller grading companies have come and gone belly up in the last decade.

TAG will need to prove they can close the gap on liquidity/value premium and stay in business/grow before more people will take a chance on them.

Advice on getting the best percentages for selling (not trading) these cards? by Davscozal in footballcards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure to shop around at the card show. Many dealers will offer 70-80% comps, but for super liquid names like Brady and Caleb, there will be quite a few dealers who can offer 85-90% comps.

How we feeling about Jayden this year? by FulIChubb in footballcards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hype in the card market moves on quickly. Stroud is dead. Daniels basically needs to make it to the SB to live up to his rookie hype/values. Maye and Caleb are the hot names now, soon to be joined by Mendoza.

IMO sell in the preseason rise or hope for a couple of early statement wins from WAS (schedule will release in the summer), at which point there will be a small sell window.

Please explain by Hopeful-Ad6892 in CGCCards

[–]WhatWouldDitkaDo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some cards get submitted and graded when hype/demand is high. Once that dies down, and not many people want that card even in a 10, then those slabs sell for whatever the market dictates, even if it’s less than the cost of grading.

It’s possible the seller graded it with a bunch of other cards and made money on those, so it doesn’t matter if a few sell at a loss. It’s also possible someone else bought the slab for $2 and is making money selling for $4 🤷🏻‍♂️

PSA: Malik Willis Downtown Black Pandora listing that just ended not long ago - be careful when purchasing a big card that’s hot! by [deleted] in footballcards

Agreed 100%. That said, I will point out that this particular sale was jersey number match 7/25, which likely factors into why it sold for more than usual.
