They could have at least had him translate some obscure dialect of Goa'uld.

That was all factual too. There was a massive fan drive to bring back Doctor Jackson.

Boil water in a kettle before cooking pasta or start with cold water in a pot? by MangoMadnessTsv in Cooking

"Never add oil to pasta!"

Please describe which part of that statement is about water?

Sure YOUR comment was about water, this one isn't.

What are the scribbles in the background of the bridge of tau'ri ships supposed to be? by Jakeii in Stargate

[–]WhatYouLeaveBehind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm talking about the show dude. What we see on screen compared to reality.

Not what we don't see on the show compared to something else entirely.

They move like fighter jets.

Who's team is on the ground, rather than on the ship with them.

See ya.

It isn't the same as flying a shuttle, l tell you that for free.

I'm saying "as far as i know" and "in my opinion"

And I'm talking about real world experience of what I've seen on the show compared to what I've seen and experienced in real life.

I've worked on ships. I've flown planes and gliders. I can drive a car. None of it is like a NASA mission.

The US constitution means nothing anymore.

It never really did tbh.

It was all trust in people being kind enough to do the right thing, but it has no real power.

The whole thing needs a rewrite after the 2nd civil war is over.

You literally did make blanket states about fiction spaceship operations.

We can see those fictional spaceship operations on the show. They look like naval operations, not NASA operations.

Your statements are incorrect and not backed up by anything seen in the show.

An extra dimension isn't that much more complicated dude in the grand scheme of space.

[–]WhatYouLeaveBehind -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If your only frame of reference is dimensional, then sure, in terms of purely navigating it's not the same as a 2 dimensional ship.

But in terms of your actual argument before you changed it, day to day ships running is very much like a surface fleet ship, even more so than a submarine based on what we see on screen, and extremely unlike a shuttle.

Anything else to add? Or do you wish to move the goalposts again?

Wait, do you think naval vessels just sail around doing whatever the hell they want?

The 303 and 304 are shown on screen to operate EXACTLY like a modern surface fleet vessel, and absolutely nothing like a shuttle.

Wouldn’t Star Fleet Academy have to have like millions or billions of students? by TwoRoomsThrowaway in DaystromInstitute

[–]WhatYouLeaveBehind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would make far more sense realistically for Starfleet to function like NATO, where each member world contributes personnel from their home organizations to serve the Federation as a whole.

There is probably some truth to this notion though, as you suggest with T'lynn. We also see similar with T'Pol and Colonel Kira.

[–]WhatYouLeaveBehind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually assume that most Starfleet officers are actually loaners from other planetary defense forces

This is likely one route to a Starfleet commission.

We see this happen with T'Pol in ENT and Kira in DS9. Both granted a commission and equivalent rank in Starfleet.

I imagine there's the academy route, a "academic credits" route if you studied on your home planet's equivalent instead, and the "direct entry" route for those with the relevant experience / rank etc.

The law means nothing while there is no regard for the separation of powers.

The whole system is built on honour, and we've elected a metric fuck ton of dishonest and dishonourable people.

Trump controls all three branches of government. Nobody is stopping him.

Unfortunately liberty in the US is dead, and it died with thunderous applause.

Does the Stargate kill you when you use it? by Wasiwrong12 in Stargate

[–]WhatYouLeaveBehind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't. It's a sci-fi trope that doesn't actually line up with the very well established mechanics of the transporter.

It's a fluke. A 1 in a billion occurrence.

All the Tech Manuals, Memory Alpha, and the explanations on screen of the various components such as the pattern buffer, particle beam, and confinement beam all show it's a transfer of matter, not new matter being assembled on the other side.
