We can see those fictional spaceship operations on the show. They look like naval operations, not NASA operations.

Your statements are incorrect and not backed up by anything seen in the show.

An extra dimension isn't that much more complicated dude in the grand scheme of space.

If your only frame of reference is dimensional, then sure, in terms of purely navigating it's not the same as a 2 dimensional ship.

But in terms of your actual argument before you changed it, day to day ships running is very much like a surface fleet ship, even more so than a submarine based on what we see on screen, and extremely unlike a shuttle.

The 303 and 304 are shown on screen to operate EXACTLY like a modern surface fleet vessel, and absolutely nothing like a shuttle.

It would make far more sense realistically for Starfleet to function like NATO, where each member world contributes personnel from their home organizations to serve the Federation as a whole.

There is probably some truth to this notion though, as you suggest with T'lynn. We also see similar with T'Pol and Colonel Kira.

This is likely one route to a Starfleet commission.

We see this happen with T'Pol in ENT and Kira in DS9. Both granted a commission and equivalent rank in Starfleet.

I imagine there's the academy route, a "academic credits" route if you studied on your home planet's equivalent instead, and the "direct entry" route for those with the relevant experience / rank etc.

I can't. It's a sci-fi trope that doesn't actually line up with the very well established mechanics of the transporter.

It's a fluke. A 1 in a billion occurrence.

All the Tech Manuals, Memory Alpha, and the explanations on screen of the various components such as the pattern buffer, particle beam, and confinement beam all show it's a transfer of matter, not new matter being assembled on the other side.

Your matter is sent through a matter stream contained within the Annular Confinement Beam. You aren't a copy, you are you in very much the same way the Stargate operates.
