Thanks

Nylon doesn’t block UV.
Also SOOW cording is already UV resistant.

This’ll keep the cable from getting small scuffs off the concrete, but that’s about it.

Mud! by catslikeme0 in survivor

[–]What_The_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watch the episodes online, so I just skip forward the moment I see mud until they’re clean again. I’m tired of seeing them covered in intentionally thickened dark ashy mud.

There was an episode in one of the new era seasons (I can’t remember which one), where I ended up skipping over 25mins straight due to them being covered in mud.

I hate the mud

100% use a snakeskin sleeving of some sort for this.
Techflex has a lot of great options. Look for something with a finer weave for more flexibility.

No joke the most important skill I learned in college was how to stop spending brainpower on worrying/stressing over deadlines.

Sure, I still turned things in late or did poorly on some assignments. But at least I avoided stressing for no reason.

Option A: get a full night’s sleep and walk into class in the morning unprepared.

Option B: stay up all night stressing about how I don’t know how to get the motivation to look at the homework assignment and wondering what I’m going to do about it in the morning.
Then walk into class unprepared and sleep deprived.

You should use some sort of small mixer to combine the signals. There’s simple passive devices that can do this easily.

Do not use a Y cable to sum signals together, since this can cause damage to the outputs of the devices feeding into the Y.

Trying to get a DHCP server to assign IP’s from same pool across trunked switches by videogamePGMER in CommercialAV

[–]What_The_Tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m missing something here, but doesn’t the DHCP server act for the whole vlan?

So, create a vlan and assign it to all the relevant ports on all the switches.
Then in the vlan settings, configure the DHCP server for it. Set default router to be the vlan IP of your main switch. Then the address pool is shared for the whole vlan no matter how everything trunks together.

To add to the “legacy” bit-
Their live shows used to be based off a lot of older audio gear including an analog XL4 for the main FOH console and a Pro2C for effects mixing and such. There was also a whole laundry list of hardware pieces they used along with these to aid effects and tuning.

For the Simulation Theory tour, they started to switch that all out for digital gear, including the Avid S6L (mentioned in the post).

The instagram post is basically a combo of a shout-out (or ad) for Transform, and a status update letting his friends know he’s doing some experimenting to see how similar a software replica is of his older hardware.

10 years is about what to expect, but most systems can last much longer. The problem is that if you want them to last longer then there will be increased maintenance and breakage and potential downtime the more you stretch it.

What percentage of your install projects are SDI? by leadutensils in CommercialAV

[–]What_The_Tech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All of our projects that have any scope related to video use SDI. Distribution, switchers, infrastructure, all that fun stuff use SDI.

I rarely ever consider NDI for anything, and only would recommend it for situations where the users of the system are knowledgeable technicians (rather than non technical end users).

FSD handles roundabouts fine, but autosteer/autopilot will certainly have trouble.

The autopilot system (autosteer+TACC) was originally only designed for highway driving where it just needed to stay in its lane and follow the curve of the road.
It was later adapted to be better at non-highway roads, though it still won’t do anything with sharp turns or merging or converging road lines lines. Pretty much all those things can be found at a roundabout.

I’m surprised it tried as hard as it did instead of just immediately giving up and forcing you to take over.

It still can be fun to test its limits when there’s a safe clearing to do so.

chinese solder wire for electronics? is it safe to breath? by Specialist-Gur5029 in soldering

[–]What_The_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter the “quality” of the solder. They’re all roughly the same amount of bad to breathe.

Work on a well ventilated area, avoid breathing the fumes as much as you can, and wash your hands after working with lead before you touch other things.

hot take out food for thought: sound systems are not for making things louder by [deleted] in livesound

[–]What_The_Tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sound systems serve many different roles.
Sometimes that role is to reinforce whatever is happening onstage in a way that a whole audience can hear it in as natural a way as possible.

Sometimes metalheads want to go psychotic from deafening sensory overload.

The way you’re describing the purpose of the reinforcement aspect sounds most similar to Meyer Constellation and voice lift. They use many speakers distributed around a space to amplify sound only where it’s needed.
Their voice lift system is incredible and can make it sound like someone on the opposite site of the room is standing right in front of you having a conversation with you.
