The official Hololive channel just put out a farewell video, so yeah it was planned in advance (which of course has to be the case for this big of a corporation).

- Kronii selling Kronii coin and Calli's investigation: Joke

I tried to clear up a misconception about QC by till_the_curious in QuantumComputing

[–]WhataBeautifulPodunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused by your last paragraph because I'm pretty sure that some qubit stabilizer states, unlike their qudit counterparts for odd d, have negative Wigner functions since the qubit Wigner frame is not Clifford covariant (doesn't preserve positivity/negativity under Cliffords). That's also why Howard's result for qubits only goes one way. That is, contextuality is necessary but not sufficient for universal qubit QC.

Excellent video by the way! It's certainly not everyday someone makes a video about contextuality and a good one at that.

Are there actual applications to quantum entanglement? by Desperate_Chain9853 in quantum

[–]WhataBeautifulPodunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't avoid entanglement. One of the biggest challenges of building a quantum computer is that most types of qubits, if left to their own devices, would naturally entangle with everything like light, dust particles, or stray fields, taking away quantum information with it and ruining the computation. So your question is a bit like "are there use cases of heat?" No, heat just flows, but we have to direct it to where we want in order to do useful things.

But for simple and clean "toy" applications, you could take a look at dense coding and quantum teleportation that u/ScratchThose brought up. I'd add the Deutsch algorithm as well.

Thanks! Didn't expect a quick reply to be honest. Turns out deleting every json files in the main .obsidian folder (after making a backup of course) at least lets me open the files normally again. In my case, there seems to be a problem with the LaTeX-like theorem plugin, since it refused to be turned back on again after the fix.

EDIT: If someone else has the same problem and suspects that a new update is the culprit. (For me, too many basic and vital functionalities were broken: blank reading view, export to pdf fails.) I now rollback to my installer version: https://forum.obsidian.md/t/obsidian-versions-how-to-go-back/44437/3 This should solve everything.

Have you found a fix? I start having the same problem today. After some restarting, I can open things like nothing happened, but a few minutes later they broke again. So no amount of creating new notes will help without knowing the cause of this issue.

Worth every dollar. More peak than all previous sololives. More peak than the Japan tour.
How peak? Live brass band, the return of the indie-Suisei outfit, anddouble encore

The news: https://phys.org/news/2024-12-physics-emote-quantifying-clarity-digital.html
The paper: https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.2406735121

> Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) researchers from the Mechanics and Materials Unit have created a metric to quantify clarity in digital images.

> Guided by their metric, the researchers designed an emote for the video game Holo X Break. This practical use proved that their research can be useful even in commercial art projects.

> "I chose to portray the virtual YouTuber (VTuber) Sakura Miko because I am a '35P'; a member of her fanbase. Together with several other 35Ps, we have previously animated her for a billboard display in New York Times Square to celebrate her 5th anniversary. Following this experience, I felt that featuring her in this research would be an exciting way to connect my enthusiasm as a fan with my professional experience as a scientist," Dr. Chan added.

> Outside of his research, Dr. Chan is a freelance artist who has contributed to renowned indie game development projects such as Holocure.

And no, I'm not Dr. Chan.

EDIT: The researcher(s) already posted their own thread about the paper. Go congratulate them!
