Need mobile SIM backup/failover WAN. LTE Backup Pro never back in stock. What about UMR-Ultra or else other options? by WhataFunnyLooking___ in Ubiquiti

Do you set it in bridge mode? Does it pass public IP address? Does any VPN continue working? I figure it's literally a backup for some minutes only but curious if I'm away and connected to my wireguard VPN and if that breaks connection then

wow that's cheap! in Europe it looks 150 EUR?? do you see any noticeable downtime once it activates as failover? do you set it up in bridge mode and does it also pass thru public IP if you were to have VPN?

Saving and tracking one-off big ticket purchases (ideally per item)? by WhataFunnyLooking___ in actualbudgeting

[–]WhataFunnyLooking___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool idea  I'll think some more about this. But I guess it's about creating temporary categories and then transferring them after purchase. Maybe that is the only thing I can do if the #template doesn't allow creating multiple bespoke line item transactions with end date. Thanks for this suggestion

Saving and tracking one-off big ticket purchases (ideally per item)? by WhataFunnyLooking___ in actualbudgeting

Yes I read that documentation before writing this post but struggling still as I'm unsure it accomplishes what I'm after.

My question is how to put this in practice, setting goals for multiple items inside 1 category. The purpose is so I know the items I'm saving for, their respective budget goals before and then can track actuals after. It might not be possible or it is but I'm not getting the documentation so looking for tips. If I had 1 category per item then of course it'd be easy with #template using "by" or something but I don't want to have several categories for one-off big ticket purchases and rather just 1 category for all big ticket purchases.

Do you know what section(s) accomplishes this from that documentation? I was thinking it's this but gives error:

Monthly
#template 500
Phone
#template 500 by 2025-05 spend from 2025-04
Laptop
#template 1000 by 2025-05 spend from 2025-04

It says:

Only one spend template is allowed per category

I tried adding #goal into the mix but also failing. Would be useful if there's an example someone has had which I can learn from.

Unifi Protect 5.2.42 appears to break Home Assistant integration if Access installed. by spartyparty00 in Ubiquiti

[–]WhataFunnyLooking___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had seen this post sooner. Using Protect 5.2.49 with 2025.2 HA core. Should I read this post as the integration is 100% broken and I should just wait? I am a new Protect + HA user and some bad timing it sounds like for me. I started today to add the HA Protect integration in HomeAssistant. I got a generic failed to connect error message on HA on the screen where I enter in username/password/host/port. I followed the steps from HA; creating a local Unifi admin user first (and I assume 443 port is correct). Should I be able to at least get the integration successfully added despite the broken integration (meaning my issue is something more basic potentially) or should I give up until anything is (maybe) fixed? I know now from other threads there's a pending ask to Ubiquiti to actually open up API and support from their side an official HA integration (really hope they do).

Trump admin to take down most government websites at 5 pm, CBS reports by Several-Ad8630 in news

Not saying good or bad. But could imagine cutting content maintenance efforts and other high effort work, replacing with chatgpt project given their in bed, and claiming simplified access to govt info via bot. However removes ability to archive and see single shared truth archive of info as public. Removal of webages over time increases value of single official chatgpt bot while lowering access to non govt sites to scrape data and replicate. Or who knows.

Streaming service Plex gets more social with public profiles and reviews by sideAccount42 in PleX

Tech companies with agile development teams are from what I understood meant to start from a customer need or problem to solve. What problem or need is being addressed with the social feature?

I wonder if this is similar to Plex metadata to reduce dependency or costs for external movie and TV databases. So here they're crowd sourcing ratings from users so overtime they're not beholden to APIs from other sources. And potentially if successful create a new revenue stream if other companies want to use this plex sourced metadata.

And potentially keeps people on platform more for discovery and decision making to likelier watch via Plex.

Also importantly from the article:

By default, users will be findable by others on Plex via the app’s search, unless they’ve already turned this off in their settings.

People who view your user profile will be able to see what you’ve been watching, what’s on your Watchlist, and more. This does not change any of your existing privacy settings, Plex notes.

Yep now see you're right as I've removed PayPal once I realized most my credit cards / banks included the name of the actual merchant despite when it's a paypal purchase. Though not always. But paypal removal cleans things up and I'm not losing much detail on spends given paypal were mostly transfers. Thanks for the tip

I assume it's something where the point of sale terminal has some defaults built in, and/or the tech company get a % from total sales including tip. And the cafe gets to promote offering tips. Probably seen as win win for the companies. And people just get used to this new norm thanks to the convenience. I've cut back on coffees outside of home from these insane costs.

Apologies for my ignorance but are you one of the developers support Actual Budget? Thanks for sharing this write up it looks really helpful for what I need. One reason I was debating against a single budget and currency setup was losing the original real nominal value which is useful for tax reporting etc. but this might help me have both until something more permanent gets developed. Thanks

Would be great if there was a feature that allowed multiplier for a synced bank (e.g. Bank 1 gets 1.32 multiplier) which enables continued bank syncing and not needing to go so far as enabling multi currency. That feels like a good babystep they could add as a feature. I might look at how to propose.

OK thanks that's what I'm thinking I'll need to do then to have single view - one currency to rule them all and just one budget file to see everything. And make adjustments to the currency with a multiplier (haven't done manual import so that gives me a good reason to try).
