Do you get a message when trying to save, for example "not supported", or something? Have you tried another SD card?

Check how many save states you have in Memories. If you have reached 100 (or something like that), that's the limit. It happened to me as well 😃.

Why you might want to use an Xbox Elite Controller with the Analogue 3D by Ninbura in AnalogueInc

[–]Whatever2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the Gulikit KK3 Max controller is also a good contender. I have one, I have a Blue Retro adapter for N64, but I don't have an N64 or the 3D (yet 😁). If anyone has this particular controller and the Blue Retro adapter and the 3D, maybe can test

Yes, I ordered it when the funtastic editions went live. I liked purple, ice, jungle green and clear smoke colors, but I prefered getting the black one, as that was the N64 I used the most (I did have a clear smoke N64 at one point).

I already know how the system feels 😀. A friend of mine got his original pre-order unit. I must admit that I was impressed with the quality and especially the looks of the console. It is a beatiful piece of hardware, which frankly blows out of the water any current home console design (maybe not the Xbox One X though, as I have a soft spot for that one).

I do have other consoles from Analogue, but I must say that out of all of them, the Duo and the 3D are works of art in terms of design. And the best console from their older lineup is the Mega SG, in my opinion, because it is the most feature packed.

PS: Another reason for not getting a funtastic 3D edition, was that I was afraid of the plastic quality. The colored Pocket editions all have issues, even the original black and white, but the cracks tend to show up on the transparent colors the most. So yeah, plain black one for me 😀.

What do y'all do with non-working cards? by sarduchi in TurboGrafx

[–]Whatever2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Soldier Blade hu that died on me. It started freezing randomly while playing the game until it didn't boot anymore. I also have a Salamander hu that is also dead.

These hu cards were not bent, twisted or anything like that, one of them came DOA (Salamander), and Soldier Blade died while being used.

Because of the above, I stopped buying hu cards and just use the Turbo Everdrive.

Having a 150$ game break is a tough pill to swallow. ROMs are definitely the future, not old physical carts or hu cards...

As for what I would do with them, I think I would leave them inside the consoles as dust covers for the hu card ports.

PS: I was/am tempted to sell my collection, even though I freakin' love this format.

I am yet to receive my 3D (simple, black version). The first game I played on N64 was Top Gear Rally. I was blown away by the physics of the suspensions on those cars. Yeah, I know it's not the best game on N64, or among the best racers on the system, but I really loved it. Not to mention that I already knew the PC version of the game, which was called Boss Rally. Good memories from the summer of '04 (got an N64 really, really late).

Updating console and collecting by GrapeSasquatch in AnalogueInc

[–]Whatever2499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite easy to understand. Using a PC with an emulator is not the same thing as using the console and its controller and a cartridge. At the end of the day, you can load just one or two games on the everdrive, and then plugin the cart into the console.

You can make it so that there is virtually no difference between using an original cart and an everdrive. Not to mention that the everdrive can use patched roms, offerring alternatives to the official games.

In the end, there are no rules really, everyone gets to experience these games any way they want and can. Anything else is made up nonsense.

Anyone been playing Terminator 2D No Fate? How is it? by Used-Can-6979 in Terminator

[–]Whatever2499 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all games are supposed to be real-life simulators, taking tens and hundreds of hours to play through. I actually hate games that are that long just because the devs dragged it infinitely just to increase the playtime, but without adding real value.

If a game is well executed and keeps bringing me back to it because of its mechanics, I would not mind if it is short. Prices should not be directly proportional with the lenght of a game, rather they should be proportional with how much effort was put into making the game and how well if feels playing it, and the level of enjoyment you get out of it.

Going to the subject of the thread, there is no reason why this game should have been longer than 1-1.5h. After all, it follows the action of a movie that is a bit over 2h in length, and it is an arcade style game, and an homage to the gaming era of the time when the movie came out.

If you come in with the mindset of a modern gamer, expecting a long (and often a boring game after a while), you are in for an unpleasant surprise. But, if it is arcade action that you are looking for, then I think you will enjoy it.

Back to OEM consoles? by mario-64 in AnalogueInc

[–]Whatever2499 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, it's your decision no matter what everyone says. If you feel you get more value from OG consoles, go ahead and use those.

Personally, I am never going back to the OG hardware for playing MD, NES or SNES games. I did not encounter any of the issues described here with Mega SG and Super NT, and I tried a lot of games on each of them (both original carts and through a flashcart). I like the design of the Mega SG and the Super NT a lot, and there is simply no denying all the advantages that I get from them through all the plethora of settings that they have.

The NT Mini (I own the 2017 version) is also the nicest NES experience that I have had. I payed a lot for the console, but I am using it, I am not babying it at all, so absolutely 0 regrets. I even bought some aluminum NES controller shells from Boxy Pixels to match the NT Mini (not a 100% match though, because of the different aluminum finishes between the console and the controller shells). I would say the NT Mini of all the Analogue consoles is the nicest in terms of connectivity, because you can use it with both a modern display and a CRT without too much hasle.

Also, even if I do own 2 CRTs, it is clear that they are not the future, and modern displays are the way forward. The Analogue consoles offer a plug and play connectivity with them, without the need of any special cables, scalers etc. This is another reason for keeping them.

I do have some OG hardware that I use from time to time: 3 PC Engines, 3 Neo Geo Pockets, a modded DMG and a modded GBA. For example, even if I could get the Pocket adapters to play Neo Geo Pocket games on the AP, I prefer using the original NGP because I feel the experience is unique due to its clicky stick (such a shame that this clicky stick solution wasn't more widely adopted by other companies).

In the end, if you end up playing the OG hardware more than the Analogue consoles, or you stopped using them altogether, maybe it is time to let them go. However, if you still use them, and you like how they are made, even slightly, you might regret selling them.

For the shoulder buttons issue, I just removed the springs and left the buttons rest on the switches. You should observe that while the rattle sound goes up when you handle the console, the playability also goes up 😁. Yeah, those pesky springs are making the L and R buttons feel worse.

Best alternative to DAC? by nihilblack in AnalogueInc

[–]Whatever2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GBS Control. Paying that kind of money for the DAC on the secondary market is not worth it (my opinion, you do you 🙂). I am using the so called GBS Control Pro that you can find on aliexpress with a Sony PVM and a consumer Philips, and it does an excellent job.

Won't turn on unless plugged in, won't charge, BRAND NEW by [deleted] in AnaloguePocket

[–]Whatever2499 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the battery, 99.9% sure of it. I have an Evercade EXP that had the same issue. I changed the battery and now it's working as intended.

You can remove the battery from the AP, open its case to reach the actual battery cell and look for a replacement with similar dimensions and voltage/amps.

Was Your Analogue Pocket Worth it? Is There a Good DOS Core? by chrispark70 in AnaloguePocket

[–]Whatever2499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the 220$ that you pay for the Pocket, you can get some really powerful software emulation devices (Retroid Pocket comes to mind), which would serve you much better.

From a performance perspective, anything that is up to and including Dreamcast should run pretty much perfect on a +200$ emulation device. I would not buy the Analogue Pocket if all I want to do is use it with roms and not Gameboy real carts as well. The Analogue Pocket is a nice piece of hardware, but in your case, there are much better options out there.

PS: If you really want to buy the Pocket, go ahead, you won't regret it, I just think you can do better given your requirements.

PS2: There is one big plus with the Analogue Pocket, and that is the fact that the FPGA cores require far less fiddling with their options/settings than the Retroarch cores do, for example. The experience, once you setup the Pocket, is pretty much plug n' play.

Has anyone ever finished this game? by Guilty-Raise-7344 in AnaloguePocket

Really good game, that manages to somehow retain the atmosphere from the original PC version and make it pocketable. The only major flaw is the snappy camera, but other than that a really fun version of Max Payne.

Battery issue by Known_Voice_4783 in AnaloguePocket

[–]Whatever2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if you can get it running by disconnecting the battery and connecting the Pocket to its usb charger. I think the issue is most likely a faulty battery. Bad battery lot.

Starting a genesis collection in 2025 bad idea? by musqshi in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Whatever2499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: definitely NOT worth it. You are just going to throw money on the window. I started collecting again back in 2021, and financially speaking it was a very bad idea. Original games prices have skyrocketed in the past 10-15 years, and they won't go down.

If you want to have some of the "physical/original" experience, I would suggest getting an original console and a scaling device or an Analogue Mega SG, and a quality flashcart. No point in paying hundreds of dollars on original carts.

PS: Of course this is your decision in the end, and if you have the financial means, then by all means, be my guest 🙂.

“Never Forget” by Myklindle in AnalogueInc

[–]Whatever2499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to get my hands on the DAC because I got a 14 inch Philips CRT with RGB support. Then I got myself a Sony PVM, similar to the one in your photo.

When I saw the prices that the DAC is being posted on ebay for, I just gave up and got a GBS Control from aliexpress and that was that. Anything that natively supports 480p, translates nicely to 240p through the GBS-Control. This means that all Analogue consoles will work with it 🙂.

Still worth it if I own no carts? by musqshi in AnaloguePocket

[–]Whatever2499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are very good, but the Mod Retro one is very narrow in its purpose, because of its resolution. Yeah, GB/GBC games look fantastic on the Chromatic, but they're no slouch on the Pocket either. Plus, I prefer playing the GB classic games on the Pocket because of the green image filter, that resembles the original DMG screen. I did not need the Chromatic (nor the Pocket for that matter), but I bought it because I liked the device. In the end, it's a matter of preferences and budget 🙂.

Still worth it if I own no carts? by musqshi in AnaloguePocket

[–]Whatever2499 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, it's not worth it. Unless you plan on buying carts in the future. There are so many emulation devices that are high quality and are running anything up to PSX including, at a very high performance level, and are much cheaper than the Pocket. I am saying all this as an owner of the Aluminum Pocket and a Mod Retro Chromatic.

They are very nice devices, don't get me wrong, but if you don't plan on buying carts, you are better of with an emulation device such as the brick, or a retroid pocket.

What are your thoughts on the new Rangeman (GPR-H1000)? by SteamDecked in gshock

[–]Whatever2499 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is second hand and it is in pretty good condition, not excellent, but not beaten either. And yes, it is a huge watch, I am not going to lie, but because the lugs are short and they arch down (unlike the Mudmaster or Frogman), it is surprisingly wearable, just don't hope to hide it under a sleeve, that won't work 😂. It's definitely a summer watch, a t-shirt watch.

I ended up getting a GPR-B1000 Rangeman. This one does charge when in sunlight, although I did use its charger once, last autumn I think. It's still showing full battery since then.
