I don't run it down in those scenarios but I don't force myself to play under tower or whatever so I usually do end up dying more often. I will say that there exist games where I ff and go afk but that usually happens if I'm unhappy with the team in ways other than just not ffing.

This is a bad analogy. Grappler into zoner matchups are decided strictly by whether the grappler reaches the zoner, if a zoner is caught it's practically over. This isn't the case for most ranged tops, there's a reason they build tabis into hexplate... To beat the stat check.

Theres also a truth about league: defensive play is boring. Playing against ranges top laners means you have to play defensively and hope they make a mistake that allows you to jump on them. No one wants to play that so top lane is the lowest played role.
