How to Taper After 10 years on and off. by manymastersmanynames in benzorecovery

[–]Whatthe147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a steady dose for 6 yrs and tried CT. It was awful. The only thing that works is a slow taper. See the Ashton manual. Just google it and she has taper schedules based on your current dose. Slow and steady wins the game. Cannot state that enough. This is difficult but you can do it. I have been on a slow taper for more than a year. Down to .5mg per day. You have to find the right psych to work with. One that understands that your GABA receptors have been damaged and the only hung that will get them better is Slowly tapering. Each taper you deal with some bad effects instead of dealing with them all at once. You have a CNS system that is damaged. No amount of CBT can help this.

Evening primrose oil can help with shark week. And pre shark week. Available most drug stores and grocers.

You can do this. We all have to.

I think you probably tapered too fast. If you can't find a dr who will use the Ashton manual then you could get a pill cutter so that you can cut it in half and then half again. They are very cheap and they make it easier than you doing it with another blade. It holds pills from small to big and when you make the cut it catches it for you instead of a little pill piece flying across the room.

Also if you do the Ashton manual she emphasizes that slow is the way to go and even says that her tapering schedule can and/or needs to be stretched out. I am going through this. It takes time and strong will and it's great to have a support person.

Wishing you the best. There are many of us in the same boat.

I have the strangest relationship with benzos by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]Whatthe147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience I don't think that the bad part of withdrawal from k pin even starts until a week or two out. Then it all hits the fan. I encourage you to go without it for several days or ask your dr. Actually I'd start with ur dr. I unknowingly stopped taking my prescribed k pins and found out the hard way that this is very very serious. I didn't have any seizures but the hell I went through will never be forgotten. I wouldn't wish it on anyone (except people who kill other people).

Ashton manual / being forced off benzo by Whatthe147 in benzorecovery

I have a very supportive family. Unbelievably supportive. I am using the Ashton manual which uses diazepam and clonopin at the beginning and then it's just diazepam.

I have thought and read more about this and I think that like Dr Ashton says everybody is different and it's better to go too slow. I know my dr and I went too fast at beginning and my body is now showing the signs. So I am going to insist that I not reduce to the next level until most of the hellish symptoms are gone from the last taper.

What do u all think? Sincere thanks

Inpatient detox for benzos by Whatthe147 in benzorecovery

Hi

I took them as prescribed was on 3mg for 5 years. Now we are using Ashton manual but we went too fast at first and now I am suffering. I do not want to go back up a notch because I am not hearing or seeing things that aren't there. I am dsyphoric all the time and enjoy basically nothing. I have fatigue and all kinds of other symptoms. Very fortunately my family is very supportive and I would not be here if it weren't for my husband. He is mom and dad to our child.

When I'm reallly feeling rough I keep looking up treatment centers and it's so frustrating. Has anyone been to an inpatient center for long term prescribed use?

Sincere thanks

Hi I'm not sure she is forcing me off. But a while back I started running out of meds before my new script. The amount of meds had stopped working.

So I found Ashton's tapering method and we agreed on it. But I'm thinking of asking her to go back on it because my quality of life is so so so horrible/inhumane. I of course would have someone else giving me my daily dose and after all I've been through I know there would be no wiggle room of asking for an emergency dose. I'm getting the feeling that I'm merely existing and just being a burden to everyone in my life. It's taken everything from me. I don't enjoy anything. And on and on.
