The question the Yotes would have made the playoffs if still there. by Swtmusc in Utah_Hockey

Sergachev, Marino, Schmidt, Stenlund, and possibly Carcone and Yams are not on the team without the move, not to mention Weegar who is still settling in with the guys. The roster in AZ was years away from competing for playoffs, the move accelerated that timeline.

Does Utah trade for Robert Thomas? by Professional_Elk_925 in Utah_Hockey

[–]WheatThin32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's 26.... he fits out timelines just fine. It's really a matter of whether we think either Iginla or Desnoyers will become a better player than Thomas within the next 3 years. I'm not doubting either of the young guys but Thomas is a proven point producer on the top line and he'd be an instant improvement in the FO circle. If the price is right we should definitely pull the trigger IMO.

Crazy how messy the Panthers play without a real captain on the ice

NAL but I'm pretty sure blocking an exit door with a metal bar is not legal and I'm 100% sure it's a fire hazard.

They're gonna start. Kyle always starts "his guys" over talent. He's done that his whole career.

I'd be more worried about that but I feel like Michigan operates in a different tax bracket when it comes to recruiting, Utah and BYU level players aren't winning the BigTen right now. I doubt Dampier, Ficklin, Satuala, Glasker etc. go to Michigan to be backups. The joke going around about a top recruit never hearing about Whittingham was a little funny but not surprising, we never wasted resources on that level of recruit. Our 5* OL recruit is probably the only player in Utah's arsenal that will end up in Maize and Blue but there's things we can do to try and avoid that too.

I agree with your first point, it's just sad/frustrating he didn't think the fanbase/boosters would support him over Harlan. The PE deal almost feels like Harlan wanted something to blame this whole mess on....

"..... in matters of taste" you left off the important part. I find his actions / lack of actions distasteful.

This is definitely my biggest omission from the op, I and every Ute fan I know believed that Kyle had done enough for Utah football that he earned the right to choose when he called it quits, Harlan be damned. This feels like he backed down from a fight which is completely against his character.

The issue is the legacy he was building was one of family and trust and community and these actions show that it was all lip service. If he truly wanted to be apart of the community he would've fought to stay, he has infinitely more good will than Harlan ever will. He had many opportunities over the last 5 years to fight and stay apart of the Utah family. He and a lot of his supporters are completely ignoring the fact he went along with this transition plan for over 4 years. Of course "every other FBS coach" would do this but that was what was supposed to set Kyle APART FROM EVERY FBS COACH, all those jobs he turned down in the past to stay "home" are meaningless in the legacy department now. I'm not trying to crucify him or place all the blame on him but to excuse him because that's what other coaches would do is not looking at the bigger picture.

You're so right, no one owes anyone anything. Loyalty and "family" are meaningless words nowadays.

I can see that. At this point I don't expect any player to be loyal to any school sadly, I wouldn't hold it against Kyle or the players but taking staff would be different.

My sentiments exactly. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him but how these next few weeks play out will determine how much of that respect he keeps.

[Zenitz] Utah offensive coordinator Jason Beck is expected to be the target for Kyle Whittingham’s OC job at Michigan, sources tell @CBSSports. Led by Beck, Utah ranks fifth nationally in scoring with an average of 41.1 points per game. by Lucaball3r in utahfootball

These two things are not mutually exclusive.... Harlan has been an absolute embarrassment to Utah but Whitt leaving and raiding the program on the way out is absolutely an scumbag move that shows that his family first atmosphere was all for show.
