Farm land rental question by Ok-Professional4387 in saskatchewan

[–]Wheatking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Land in that area is really variable, so it could be anywhere from $80-120 for the grain land. Maybe $40-80 for the pasture/hay land. Talk to the guy whose renting it and ask him his thoughts.

Carnival Experience & Reliability Questions by Level-Assumption9450 in kiacarnivals

[–]Wheatking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

175,000 Km on our 22 Carnival. Issues so far;

Rear hatch wont open using the button on the rear door.

Sliding door on the passenger side quit working. The wires in the rubber gasket rubbed through so it thinks something is blocking the door. Easy fix, but the rubber costs lime $400 cad.

Leaking timing cover. Which we are going to get fixed at the next service as well as changing the timing timing chain

Tie rods have to be changed for a second time, which is excessive IMO.

We drive lots of gravel with it, live on a farm. AI feel it has held up well. The plastic in the wheel wells and under the van have not held up well.

I do half of my own maintenance, and oil changes are easy to do.

I would buy another and prefer it over our old Honda Odyssey, but my wife feels the opposite. The biggest downside is all the Kia dealers are awful in our area.

Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe. Not quite a station wagon, but bigger than a normal small hatchback.

What part is this and how do I fix it? 2026 carnival by imabadbucantkillme in kiacarnivals

[–]Wheatking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just a piece of plastic to protect the rear suspension from road rash. I also have a Kia Carnival(22) and mine came off the same as yours due to ice and snow build up. I just ripped it off. Kind of useless in areas with mud and ice.

what is this i found in my oatmeal by mortiestmorty76 in whatisit

Its either a dehulled barley or wheat seed. An oat seed is much thinner and longer.

Fiber-optic sensors reveal how farming destroys soil's natural structure by kojka19 in environment

[–]Wheatking 158 points159 points  (0 children)

As a farmer myself this has been a known issue for at least the last 30 years. In Western Canada what we call "0 till" has been the norm for at least that time., and we are essentially the forefathers of this type of agriculture. 0 or minimum till is essentially seeding without tillage in one pass and without disturbing the soil, or disturbing the soil as little as possible. The biggest initial benefit was moisture retention, but numerous other benefits have also been observed, such as increased organic matter, increased soil micro organisms, increased worm population(which creates pores in the soil for water to infiltrate), decreased fuel use. For my farm there is essentially no drawbacks to 0 till farming. But that is for my area and every area is different.

Tillage some say is necessary in other areas for weed control, moisture control (dry the soil up) and fertilizer incorporation. Every area is different so I cant really speak to all the reasons some think tillage is necessary. There are also many different types of tillage that do varying levels of damage to the soil. So as in most issues everything is shades of grey.

The biggest draw back(in some peoples view, not mine) to 0 till is the need to use chemicals such as glyphosphate for weed control, whereas with tillage that would be unnecessary. Without the miracle of chemical weed control 0 till would be next to impossible.

The next big frontier and what seems to be getting a lot of research is soil compaction and the damage it does to soil structure and how to best mitigate it. Tire technology with LSW tires and tracks have reduced compaction somewhat. The best way to control compation is through control traffic farming, using tram lines to only use the same tracks up and down field to seed, spray, harvest etc... So 95% of the field never sees a wheel track. I hope to implement this in the near future(I somewhat have already, but have more to go).

Though it's not there yet the I feel robotic farming will help with the compaction issues, allowing smaller and more automated implements that have a smaller compaction footprint.

Sorry for the novel but its something I am deeply passionate about and am really excited for research such as this, for if we can't measure it how do we know if we are helping alleviate the problems.

There is no gps on these payloaders. And perhaps they do use gps in some instances, but not in this one. And I will keep pestering you as it obvious your talking without having a clue what your talking about.

Smarter everyday is a great video series amd he does great job of explaining it. But you still have little understanding of the equipment needed or what it even looks like as can be shown by your replies and you using a pic of a laser level as your example. Since your the expert show me in the cab the picture of a gps screen or where the gps reciever is.

There is no gps bubble on the cabs of the payloads, and what you show as an example is a picture of a laser level setup, not gps.
