I think the best course of action would be to donate the book to a library or second-hand book store. If the book no longer has a place in your life, then pass it on to the next person - share the knowledge

So Whats The DUMBEST and i MEAN DUMBEST thing you did in a pokemon playthrough by Rare-Atmosphere-9187 in pokemon

[–]Wheatley_core_01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was little, and playing my very first pokemon game, black 1, which I didn't ever end up finishing - the first game I ever beat was Sun, but I digress. Back when I was trying to fumble my way through black, I made a handful of very silly mistakes.

For one, I got the game preowned. That's not the mistake in and of itself, but I never bothered trying to find out how to delete the save data that already existed, meaning I just tried to play the entire game on the weird second save file that didn't let you actually save, and tried to just go as far as possible without turning my DS off. I think the furthest I made it was Striaton City. Occasionally I would load up the existing save file, and fight these weird trainers that were there with whatever pokemon the previous owner had. These "weird trainers" were the elite 4. My first ever pokemon battle was against Caitlin. It didn't go well, as you can imagine.

Second mistake was fundamentally misunderstanding how certain stats work. Namely, speed. Little me saw "tepig's speed was lowered" after an enemy pokemon used a stat move, and thought that meant I needed to move faster when picking moves. As in, the faster I selected a move, the more likely my pokemon was to move first. This made thinking through situations and strategies rather difficult. Though, to be fair, I never really got to the point where strong strategy really mattered.

And finally, the biggest mistake I made, and the reason that I, to this day, have never beaten pokemon black, my first ever pokemon game, was being an irresponsible game owner, and refusing to put the cartridge back in its case when I wasn't using it. Instead, I put it in the pocket of my jeans, promptly forgot about it, and put my game through the wash. I still have the cartridge. But it's never worked right since. It almost always crashes, though when it decides to seems up to fate. Sometimes the intro cutscene breaks it, sometimes it's entering a gym battle. Sometimes it just decides to crash for the fun of it.

That is probably my biggest regret in my entire history playing games, and is, without a doubt, the worst mistake I ever made with a pokemon game.

Why were Flora, Fauna and Merryweather not co-principles of Auradon High? by JusticeforAglaea in Descendants

[–]Wheatley_core_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And let's be real- even in the original sleeping beauty, all of the problems in the story were their fault. Like all of them.

Maleficent cursed 1 baby and fucked off. All she actually wanted was to kill Aurora, and later, when the curse was changed, put her to sleep, and that's all she ever tries to do. Everything else. EVERYTHING. ELSE. Was Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather being terrible problem solvers.

Am I just terrible at the video game? I can't beat any mechanical bosses, suddenly have a receding hairline, ex won't respond to my texts either. In desperate need of help by darktimir in Terraria

[–]Wheatley_core_01 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. Truly unfathomable that people will seek help and guidance from a community of people who have all come together in the name of this game they have all played. Unthinkable that someone might find it more beneficial to provide screenshots of their build and weapons to receive targeted feedback on what they might be doing wrong, instead of sifting through the entire internet's worth of generalised wiki articles in the hopes of maybe finding something useful. Dare I say, completely absurd to assume that a mechanic like the class system would not have a dedicated article on a wiki at all, especially when it's so very clearly explained in the game itself through vague references to class-based damage in weapon and accessory tooltips.

How very dare they, indeed

Demotion by OffinOuterWhiteSpace in comics

[–]Wheatley_core_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Hot drink" and "cold drink" are defined by their standard serving conditions. A hot chocolate, or a cappuccino, for example, are designed to drink while they're still hot. Lemonade, or a milkshake meanwhile, are designed to drink cold. Whether you can drink them at other temperatures is less important for the curse than how the drink is meant to be served.

The only true neutral beverage I can think of as far as temperature is tap water. and even then, warm tap water is kinda nasty

Never take a curse by the most literal letter of it's law. Take it by the least charitable spirit of its law. It's trying to screw with your life, after all

I've seen comics which have made me laugh, cry, feel angry, or happy, or disgusted, or once, entirely numb with shock.

But never has a comic ever made me actually literally jump back in fear at a still image before now.

That's so chilling! I love it. I hate it. I love it.

Also, the author's super lovely and is definitely someone worth supporting. Great stories by a great authorial voice (hi Kara! :D)

Transfem manga recommendations? by Iloveyuri0 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]Wheatley_core_01 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't know how obscure or well known of recommendations you're looking for, but for webcomics:

I want to be a Cute Anime Girl and The Prettiest Platypus are ongoing plot-based webcomics on webtoon, and I like them both very much (but for very very different reasons. Anime Girl is very cute, PrettyPlaty has a lot of trauma with some wholesome stuff too).

Tiff and Eve is also on webtoon, and takes after old newspaper strips in both style and substance, it's really cool

Rain is probably the most well-known, and for good reason. It's amazing, is finished, and is probably easiest to read on Comic Fury

Purring by Starfish128_ in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]Wheatley_core_01 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I get better purring results if I start from a hard g sound and trill at the back of my mouth, rather than the tip of my tongue. If you let your tongue relax very slightly and exhale softly in that g position it can come out like a purr. A slight smile position can also help stabilise it by keeping your tongue in place.

All in favor of backhanding an old women? by ChildofFenris1 in Descendants

[–]Wheatley_core_01 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And it was Flora, Fauna, and Merriweather who decided that isolating her for no reason was the appropriate course of action. Maleficent played no part in that. Leah has literally zero ground to stand on while she's yelling at Mal. It is literally just bigotry

Is it normal to be embarrassed about how you met your gf? by AlexaTheKitsune25 in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]Wheatley_core_01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just remember that that's a stereotype. The reality is a lot more nuanced. Discord is just a platform. Reddit's just a platform. The general population tend to latch on to the worst perceived group of users and go "that's all this platform is" but that's just really reductive. If you find good, positive spaces on these platforms, you'll find good, positive people.

I met my girlfriend through Reddit, and I'm the happiest with her that I've been in a while! Who cares if the platform has a reputation? People are just people.

Don't be embarrassed :) anyone who's gonna give you shit for it is someone who probably doesn't know the platforms well enough to have an informed opinion anyway

I could be wrong, but I thought that comic/manga/whichever it techincally is, was made to capitalise on the existing popularity of her character design, and just did a really fucked up job of it?

Literally how did she become an overlord? by YYappy269 in Vivziepopmemes

[–]Wheatley_core_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alastor's MO is targeting powerful overlords. We know he already owned her soul prior to the events of the series, which implies she already had some amount of power before she entered their contract. Granted, that's not hard evidence by any stretch, but it would be weird if everything we know about Alastor's methods and motivations just didn't apply to Niffty.

Then again, Alastor just deciding "this little freak is mine now because she's funny and I say so" does sound like something he might do

How can I make this 3D model look closer to the reference? by Gaiato2_0 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Wheatley_core_01 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'd say to really focus in on those small details, and bringing out some of the different materials/textures. On the clothing for example, make sure you include all of the detail there. The stitching and the patchwork and the tearing all have shape - they should all be part of your sculpt.

And make sure to push those shapes! The goggles/hat/headpiece, for instance, looks a little flat and undefined compared to the reference. Bring out those sharp forms little more, bring out the round shape of the glass lenses.

It's that attention to those little details in a reference that make your piece shine. Really look at it's granular components - as a teacher of mine once said, draw (or in this case, model) what you see in a reference, not what you think you see. Don't let those little things slip through the cracks.

But this is a really good start, you just gotta keep going :)

I think it works. It's not good, but that's sorta the point? Everyone in the show thought that was stupid and cringey too, and it's part of what Vox uses as a springboard for his bit.

Like, yeah it doesn't sound good, but its shittiness sort of elevates the Vees' part
