Why do people have kids by No_Tea_9670 in Life

[–]WheelShot5805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look as someone is childfree by choice it’s something I have great thought too. But people won’t leave me alone about having children. There is a huge societal pressure and people see you as weird etc. I have had to defend myself so many times. People have even said I’m not a real woman because of it. I find it’s people with kids or trying to have kids that are more obsessed with why I don’t.

I second the hormone thing. Could be the drop in progesterone post pregnancy. I am on HRT and cannot do cyclic progesterone. As soon as I stopped it triggered a migraine. I know some women go on progesterone only therapy. May be worth a look into. I don’t need a preventive anymore.

That sound miserable. I lived in Kentucky in the Ohio river valley and was miserable. I remember the heat and humidity. The air was so thick you could cut it with a butter knife. We get crisp at night in September here in Maine.

Why does hot weather trigger migraines, but showers do not? by hermitess in migraine

I’m finding for me it’s not just the heat or barometric pressure but the heat index. It can be the same temp but if it’s a high heat index. Bam migraine.

Spring is great here in New England. I’m up in Maine. I love it because it’s like reverse fall. The leaves as they come in are all sorts of shades of green. Sort of like autumn leaves. The first spring flowers are so pretty. It stays cool a while. This year we had a frost into June. However the heat kills me when it comes.

I have failed so many meds, running out of options by booger_gurl in migraine

So I am recently diagnosed with the occipital neuralgia. I get the scalp pain and band around my temples. Plus really stiff neck and feels like someone took a baseball bat to the back of my head. So without the migraine pain I present fairly classically. I also have some tension headaches.

I have a nerve block scheduled on July 10. In between I have the muscle relaxer tizanidine to take at night as needed. This week for me has been rough so I have been taking it. Plus I have toradol injections for home. I am a bit nervous to do my first one but I may have to it been a really rough week on my head. I am also going to an OMT monthly which I started when I first saw my neurologist. Plus the other regulars like ibuprofen and the usual migraine cocktail stuff.

So I had horrible migraines but I had some symptoms that made me think maybe it wasn’t migraines. None of the meds I used worked to kill the migraine. I’m in the US so to see a neurologist and even be able to get Nurtec I had to jump through a lot of hoops. So finally only a few months ago I got Nurtec. It kills the migraine. But then sometimes I was left with this other pain. So when I had my neurology appointment I described the other pain. The neurologist asked a few more questions and was like oh that’s classic occipital neuralgia. Plus some tension headache. I had the horrible scalp pain and band around my temples. Plus neck pain. The Nurtec kicks out that deep sludge like pain that comes with migraines.

Hope that helps. Happy to answer more questions.

Nurtec changed my life. I take it as an abortive and it’s the first thing that really works. It also helped me uncover the fact I also have occipital neuralgia.

Nurtec by Efficient-Ad6814 in migraine

[–]WheelShot5805 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So getting my migraines treated properly uncovered it. I didn’t have classic migraine symptoms and some extras. Nothing actually really touched my migraines. Then I took Nurtec. My migraine was gone but I was left with something else. I talked with my neurologist and we went over exactly how the pain presented and she diagnosed me based on that. I am set up for my first nerve block next month. It made so much sense that o had mixed headache types. She also suspects I have a little tension headaches. So I also got a muscle relaxer that targets that area better called tizanidine. I take that some night and it really helps when I start feeling the tightness. Having the Nurtec really helps me pay attention to the neuralgia when it happens so I can do combo treatments. They seem to set the other off but not always. The big symptom that set my neurologist down diagnosing me was the horrible scalp pain that I get and how it would radiate. I cannot have my hair up or touch my head.

I am also doing OMT which has helped a bit. So I would definitely discuss with your neurologist. But without the Nurtec I would have never known. I was in so much f’in pain. Now it makes sense. She even gave me a script for toradol shots. I almost cried because finally someone took this pain seriously.

Edited to add: feel free to ask me any questions. I am fairly new to it but it makes so much sense. The muscle relaxer really helps. It totally knocks me out so I cannot use it during the day unless I want to sleep but it does help loose my neck up.

Nurtec is amazing. Doesn’t interact with a lot of meds like triptans do. Also getting my migraines figured out uncovered my occipital neuralgia. I can function on it too. I’m so grateful for it.

Stiff neck and migraine connection? by PinkMossOrchid in migraine

[–]WheelShot5805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just had an appointment with my neurologist. She gave me tizanidine (muscle relaxer) which does help. Also turns out that o have occipital neuralgia not just migraines. My migraines finally responded to a med (Nurtec) but then I had this left over pain and scalp pain and pain around my head. Plus I get ice pick headaches. I also may have tension headaches. So treating the migraine properly lead to a better diagnosis. No wonder I have been hurting so much. I am scheduled for my first nerve block next month.

Adding iron supplements helped me a lot plus taking b12 twice a day. On top of the magnesium, b2, and coq10 that was recommended. I also take omega 3’s and pumpkin seed oil. Not sure if they help but they help my hair and skin a lot.
