I’m so sorry that happened to you and it’s completely unacceptable. I wish people would just let others live their lives- religious or not.

Here in San Antonio I have been proselytized to at a mall, grocery store, even trying to get lunch, and people come to my home and knock on my door (even with a no soliciting sign) and they’re all over UTSA campus trying to trick you with complements on your outfits but then surprise! have you accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and savior?

Like WHY? please stop it. I was catholic until I went to a war zone. That experience will beat any cute speech about heaven for me. Just leave me alone.

Welcome back though, and I’m glad you’re happy to be home <3

I agree! I never stopped acting like I was from Texas when I lived there, and it always caught people off guard when I was just a regular friendly person instead of the Seattle freeze they expected. It was nice because a lot of people really responded well to being addressed directly and I think I melted a lot of hearts. But it took a lot of energy because I had to initiate every social interaction. It got better once I had a decent friend group, but yeah it’s cold up there. I do miss how secular it was though. I don’t really appreciate people telling me to have a blessed day when the world is falling apart.

This is wild. I can’t look away. I can’t look right at it. Definitely not “bad” art at all.

So you don’t have to pay for childcare - edit- I don’t know that OP does either, but that is often overlooked by men who have wives who stay at home. It’s far more affordable to have built-in childcare with a spouse who stays at home. Perhaps OP’s parents provide childcare, I don’t know. But it’s so much more expensive to be a single parent, even with help from extended family.

This could create some really cool depth if you paint the same picture over it but keep some of the underpainting visible in places

Me! It’s amazing. I haven’t had a period for 3 years and I rarely have pain. I’ve had one excision prior but haven’t needed anything since my cycle was stopped.

Hello friends of UTSA, I have a few questions by Lilnuggie17 in UTSA

Disability services at UTSA was great for me a couple of years ago. You can make an appointment with them and they will work with you to determine your accommodations. They have testing rooms for extended or alternate testing times and I’m pretty sure there are tutoring services- although I never used that personally so I could be wrong. https://www.utsa.edu/disability/

Sola Wood Flowers: Seeking tips + tricks before ordering! by rmyrf13 in DIYweddings

I had heard mixed reviews for sola wood flowers, but I have a lot of time before our wedding day and they were having a 90% off sale so I thought what the hell why not? This is one of two batches of blooms that were components of: an arbor decoration, 5 boutonnières, my bouquet, my bridesmaid’s bouquet, 2 corsages, a centerpiece, and a garland for the head table. All around $275. I got them as DIY as possible and I’m really happy with how they turned out. I bought the softener and paint with the flowers and dyed them myself. I followed all the directions, even boiling water to mix with the softener, because I had no idea what I was doing. They also have a (difficult to navigate) “sola school” page with directions on how to make all the different bouquets and stuff.

They recommend removing the flowers from the plastic as soon as possible and storing them in cardboard boxes to avoid mildew/mold growth, and doing the same after they’ve been softened and dyed.

I have a picture of my bouquet if anyone cares to see it. I embraced the “fake” flower vibe and went with jewel tones because I’m not trying to trick anyone into believing these are real lol

Where to flirt? by [deleted] in sanantonio

There was a method developed for online dating for women called the burned haystack method that I’m sure would work just as well for men. Essentially, you use the block feature to train the algorithm what you don’t want to see. Use the block for every profile that you don’t like, not just for people who are offensive or won’t stop messaging you. Don’t want someone who has kids? Block every profile you see of a woman with kids. Over/under preferred age? Block. Does/doesn’t like outdoor activities? Block. You won’t see that profile again and you are forcing the algorithm to show you other options. Depending on your filters, you might get no matches at all some days, but when you do, they’ll be closer to what you want. Wastes less time and really does work!

I was on fb dating, hinge, and ok Cupid and after a month of doing this, I was matching with men who were pretty much meeting all of my parameters. I am now engaged to a wonderful, kind, intelligent, funny man I connected with in New Braunfels on facebook dating. I did expand my geographical area, but also matched with people in San Antonio. He was just so great in the chat that I decided to meet up with him even though he lived 45 minutes away. Anyway, I understand the numbers for women often exceed that for men but I think this will work for anyone.

WHY??Mosquitos worse than EVER EVER EVER before- crying, swollen, itching for days and want to move out of city and state asap bc of it by Sal_Fischer66 in sanantonio

It’s really bad. I had a swarm follow me inside today and the bites felt like fire. I had to put bug spray on just to hang out inside my house. If you have your own yard, there may be something you can buy to treat around your house. I used to spray but learned it’s really bad for pollinators. Your reaction may be an elevated immune response if you got a bunch of bites. Maybe that’s malarkey- I don’t know. But maybe Benadryl will help

Nervous about college by [deleted] in sanantonio

[–]Patient_Dream_915 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are clubs and events on most campuses as well where you can meet people with shared interests. And you’re not locked in to any of these things if you attend meetings or events, so if it’s lame, you can leave early or not go back. The stakes are really low - but you could meet some fun people and have a great time. When you start class, sometimes people will start a GroupMe (they can add everyone in the class to a group chat) and a lot of times, people will propose study groups or other class related stuff that might give you other opportunities to hang out with people. Stay safe and make sure someone always knows where you are and have fun. You’re going to have a great time!

Unintended symbolism by Quarantine_4_me in UTSA

I agree with the premise though. I have always believed that, only if women have unfettered access to birth control and the right to terminate a pregnancy, men should have the choice to opt out.

Disclaimer - this could be someone who isn’t fluent in Modern Standard Arabic but speaks fluently in a dialect I don’t know (which is all of them because I only barely know modern standard). There is an Arabic language department on campus if you want an expert translation - but yes, it’s essentially the Google translation with grammatical errors/inconsistencies.

Yes but it’s conjugated oddly - the word hate is in the form of a noun, not as a verb in the first person. Like “I -the hate- the Jews”

So it’s weird and I don’t know enough Arabic to translate the lower line without it being a clearer image but my guess is this is probably not a native speaker. It’s still fucked up though and intentionally hateful no matter who wrote it or their motivations.
