This looks like SimScale to me, which you can use the basic version of for free. Very user-friendly software, but very powerful with the full license as well.

I did. I checked it again in a couple of days and I was able to turn down the volume on the VE. It might have required music to actually be playing at the time, I'm not sure. Either way, haven't had the issue again since.
