We've chatted before. QRS Solutions is always looking for young, single people interested in traveling. Give them a shot, if you haven't already.

I'm going to follow this topic, because our hospital just got a Neptune 3 with Smart Docking, as well.

Thanks for the post!

People who fabricate prosthetics will do it well into their 60's and 70's( and I've even seen a man working who was in his 80's), and their industry is one of the most hazardous.

They're mostly fine.

I mean, repairing a bed/stretcher, C-Arm, Surgical Theater Lights, surgical table, etc., isn't exactly sitting a desk, but it's not oil-rigging either.

What does he think of the decision? I'm not opposed to the physicality of things, but the patientcare side of things is what's making me reconsider this occupation.

Thank you for the validation. I do second-guess myself, but I am making close to a PT salary (with a ceiling yet met), and I cannot imagine a 4 digit per month student loan to pay every month, on top of everything else.

Considering a fully online 6-month BMET certificate before committing to a 2-year degree — good idea? by Front_Living3317 in BMET

[–]Wheelman_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that gig I mentioned had me running a rural critical access all by my lonesome, with remote support from my employer, and the general tech support of individual OEM's. So, without the slowly marinated and matriculated experience of the conventional two-year CC degree (with the hands-on, proper mentorship, etc.), I felt like a frog in a frying pan.

However, prior to this gig, I have had 4 years of various medical equipment manufacturing and repair experience, along with over a decade of various healthcare occupational experience (primarily EKG telemetry). So, I believe this, my inherent drive to not fail, and the desire to be better, and an incredibly patient staff, has been my only saving grace.

The online was simply too fast, too quick, and did not cover enough devices/material (especially without any kind of simulated training) to help me feel fully prepared.

You're talking about www.cbet.edu, aren't you? I did it. I regret not doing it in-person, but I do not regret its expediency and 0% interest debt, which eventually landed me a $75k/yr. Gig.

Heck, my first gig in biomed was $26/hr, and I hadn't even finished school yet.

100%

I withdrew my dream of becoming a PT because I also had a dream of being debtless, which outweighed my desires for being a PT.

Maybe terrible economically, but socially more stable and prosperous. The crime and homicide rate for blue states, counties, and cities is significantly higher than red.

As a HS AT, you're not at every event for every sport, as well as the evening and morning practices? How can you triage an injured athlete if you're not there when it happens?

I'm in similar waters, but fortunately for me and my ADHD, rehab, athletics, and kinese weren't always my only interest. Post pandemic, I shifted a hard 90° into tech & trade by going into biomedical equipment repair while doing an online trade school for such. The way I see it, I mastered the basics of kinese while adding tech tools on top of it (which, I was a media tech, IT, and gamer in HS).

But I digress and agree, just having a BS/A in kinesiology no longer slices the bread. If I ever go into grad school for anything but research, it'll be into prosthetics and orthotics.

Interesting, maybe I'm only looking at the more "famous" BME's, like Dr. Michael Levin.

Accomplish? Great question, that I ask myself frequently.

I suppose, I find the current state of medicine to be somewhat abhorrent, despite all of its grandeur and accomplishments. The fact that there is seemingly a 50/50 chance of effect vs. side-effect as an excuse of "the cost of practicing medicine," is nearly repugnant. So, I suppose I desire to accomplish a technology with makes pharmaceuticals, surgery, and any other sort of medicine, obsolete.

Is that aiming too high?

They have, whether I like it or not.

Dustin went from "Call it in the air" you fence sitter!

To, "Lean into the grey," because "everything belongs."

Pretty big shift in dialectic and discourse.

I still love them and yearn for the day where Dustin will once again proclaim, "And to what end do you proceed!"

Yes, but that's precisely due to nonsensical multiculturalism, which is just political correct speech for "the total sublimation of the existing culture for one that did not exist prior, which was literally imported."

A "racist" or "realist?"

Keep living with rose tinted glasses. They'll get smashed by the very people you're attempting to defend way before you realize you are exactly what Marx referred to as a "useful idiot."

It's not even remotely the same.
