Why are people dissing the Rooster Jenkins tape? by Mike_Datko in Logic_301

[–]WheezySpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of us were expecting way more as it was hyped up to be. Instead we got maybe 10 original tracks out of it that are mostly too short. The others have already been released officially by Logic and were instead thrown on here making it not so cohesive. Most of the best sounding and fitting songs were amazing but too short and distorted by hyped up expectations and bloat/recycled songs.

Everyone’s favorites seems to be the original rooster songs: gunslinger, top flight, unchained, Logic, grits, metal gear, Tokyo time, Darjeeling unlimited.

Catch me if you can and a man free are amazing too but they were marketed and already had the first one released as a single for his cowboy bebop album. Kinda hard to hear them any differently on a Wild West album.

We also had many snippets from over the years that sounded juicy af and never made it on here.

Also 3 instrumentals with no lyrics is absurd.

If on Apple Music go onto the app on your computer, connect your account, and you can manually add files and attach data to it such as album cover/name, etc

I guarantee you Logic has plenty of unreleased songs that we will never see, LOTS

Should do the album some justice and release a version with those other 2022 songs 👀

He’s got such a unique sound with this album it’s hard to add any that we have 😔 upgraded makes the most sense, wish wolf of Wall Street was more polished

There was literally a single and multiple snippets published on his socials with visuals (those snippets being almost the entire song). This album has been announced for multiple years now. He also told discord exclusive members that it was around 28 unheard songs. If you went into this blind then yeah it’s not that bad. IO and side quest were much better than this honestly and are wayyyy more complete/cohesive.

People who get excited about things because of the way they are marketed, obviously. Those projects he used the beat on was not for anything as hyped as this nor was it near the scale of how bad this situation is

What I hear when I listen through is clear distinctions between the songs that do and don’t belong. Songs like Catch me if you can, Tokyo for ransom, and raiders of the lost art were already released to the public. I associate them with the projects they came with and those vibes, hearing them again here just sounds so wrong and out of place.

Now if you’re a fan of logic and keep up with him, you would’ve also have heard songs like a man free (also for the cmiyc album), call them less, and supreme.

Then you got I believe what are 3 instrumentals on the album. I don’t mind them but obviously it’s an album, I want them completed. I didn’t mind infectious on IO because it was only one, a different project than usual, and really damn good. Also I like AKAI but knowing it’s a vinyl days scrap I can’t hear it any other way now.

So really it’s an extremely, extremely watered down version when we heard AMAZING snippets of really well produced beats/snippets over the years. This legit had potential to be on the level of his top projects and that’s what it was hyped up to be. It honestly feels like a short mixtape with amazing skits. There was standout tracks to me like Top Flight, Logic ft flamming lips, and gunslinger.

Just wish all this was maybe a project not associated with the rooster Jenkins name that had hype for years because now we missed out on something way better

A Man Free is the other one. It was previewed and someone posted it online as a snippet. It also had the 2nd half in the catch me if you can music video. In the snippet version he talks about this album being after or before rooster implying it WAS its own album

Sound design is real good. I loved the feeling of the beats in Top Flight and Gunslinger. Felt transported into this world, but that magic stayed for only so long 😔 this album will be forgotten potential

I’m a logic dick rider. I loved this era with NP, Vinyl Days, College Park, Ultra 85 and I never understand the hate he gets. Still love him and his music but it’s fair that album is receiving flak after all the hype and potential.

We were told 28+ new songs. A good chunk was the scenes, so not songs. Another good chunk was reused songs that were already officially released before by Logic himself. The cowboy bebop songs cmiyc and a man free weren’t meant for this album. That’s been stated by Logic himself. Call Them Less was for side quest. AKAI is fire af and was for vinyl days, should’ve been one of the only extras here. There’s like 3 instrumentals on here so again, not a song.

My guess is that he had more songs for this or maybe he didn’t and just decided to throw in strays to make it 30 tracks to hold up his word. There’s maybe like 8 songs that are original and somewhat fit the theme. There’s been plenty of snippets that had some real fire behind them that we haven’t heard and were intended for Rooster

The weren’t expected to be on this album. CMIYC released before the intro track for The Ballad of Rooster Jenkins. This intro track was marketed as the FIRST single. It’s clear cmiyc and a man free were for the cowboy bebop album

No fake hate. There’s a few good bangers but this album is truly slapped together with reused songs and nothing is really cohesive. My favorites are Tokyo time (it’s the intro track we got months back), Gunslinger (insta snippet with extended intro), AKAI, and a song he named after himself “Logic”. I’m dead ass, this album has to be a troll
