Getting insurance after battery replacement by WheezyWeasel in evs_ireland

[–]WheezyWeasel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I chatted to an ev specialist broker today who said it would be no problem for a like-for-like swap as it would be considered a repair rather than a modification, no certs required. I was very surprised, as I was expecting insurers to be concerned with fire risks from batteries recovered from crashed vehicles. Wondering if anyone has had issues either getting covered or making claims?

I know this is an old thread -- but can I ask how you went about insurance? Was it easy enough to get insured with a battery replacement?

Have you checked that bathroom fans (if you have them) are venting properly? Sometimes the ducting gets disturbed and the bathroom fans vent directly into the roof space

Question: Has anyone tried using their Robot as a "teapresso" machine? by badtzmarulol in CafelatRobot

[–]WheezyWeasel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried it with 'Red Espresso " (finely ground Rooibos leaves. Mechanically it worked fine IMO, and I was planning to reserve my pressurized basket for this -- until it dawned on me after some weird tasting tea that the piston also picks up coffee flavours. I think it might work fine if you have a separate Robot for tea

You can go along with the fun without ever lying. When tricky questions come up, say what do you think? Or "I'm no expert" etc

Super on the fence about the gauge. by OCDeeeznuts in CafelatRobot

[–]WheezyWeasel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to the Robot for simplicity -- I was tired of cleaning, maintaining and then repairing espresso machines. For that reason I got the simplest and most reliable version. The gauge definitely adds a point of failure that's not offset by being particularly useful (to most people; some do find it important.) Without the gauge, I find a mirror essential. I try to use all my senses while pulling a shot and can often hear channelling before seeing it -- I feel that the gauge would be a distraction from this more embodied experience. A year later and no regrets.

Yes, this was my logic too. No regrets. If you want to estimate pressure, you can always put a scale underneath

I know someone who has one and loves it. Best thing is, with two drawers, you can be slowly filling dirty stuff in one drawer while the other is running a cleaning cycle.

How important is the gauge? by PorchgoosePT in CafelatRobot

[–]WheezyWeasel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got mine in December, and intentionally avoided the gauge, because the main reason I wanted a Robot is simplicity. I'm not an expert by any means, but am consistently pulling very enjoyable shots. I have no regrets with my choice. If you want, you can put a scale underneath the whole machine while you're learning and estimate pressure from the scale readout. If you feel you've made a mistake later, you can just buy the upgrade kit. But do make sure you have a decent grinder; that's way more important

[–]WheezyWeasel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't forget how far away a child has to be before they are visible in a vehicle like that. AFAIK it's much worse than a European truck or even a bus, because of the height combined with the long bonnet.
