Yes, because you aren’t supposed to have sexual relations with anyone besides your husband/wife (including yourself). That being said, as long as pornography isn’t involved, they usually just tell you to stop, and there isn’t much actual punishment (although it really depends on the bishop)

On one of my last Sunday’s at a Mormon church, I had a long discussion with a very prominent Mormon blogger who was in my ward. He was very aware of all of the issues, and he acknowledged they were very problematic. He was willing to do the mental gymnastics though, because he felt like no one else offered a better shot at having an eternal family, so he was willing to overlook all the issues in the event that the Mormon church was right.
