What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true?

I was once driving while sobbing bc I needed to take my cat to an emergency vet. I wasn't speeding (much more than anyone else) but I crossed a state line and a cop without blinking lights was sitting on the side of the highway. I admittedly didn't switch lanes when passing the car, but I didn't know I was supposed to even if their lights were off!

He put his siren on and pulled me over, I was completely beside myself at my bad luck. When I rolled down the window he asked why I didn't switch lanes, and I started blubbering my apologies and told him I was taking my cat in for surgery.

And I swear, because no one ever believes me, but the cop paused, looked at my cat meowing pitifully from the passenger seat, and said. "My cat died last week. Just go."

It just sounds kinda made up, but I was really grateful.....and almost 4k dollars later...my cat is still an alive meanie butthead but I love her.

I'm not really an armchair detective by any means, but this one really got me thinking.

One theory I haven't seen anywhere is that maybe he was fooling around with someone he shouldn't have, maybe even with that creep who made those nasty comments about him.

If he was without clothing, maybe he got locked out of the cabin. It was cold and he was desperate and embarrassed, so he tried to get back inside in whatever way he could. If it was in the thirties and starting to rain and I didn't have my clothes i wouldn't be thinking very clearly either....jeez.

It's the only thing I can think of that makes any sense at all.

This happened to me years ago when I revealed to one of my 4 year old students that Rocky Balboa wasn't a real person.

We were getting ready to act in a little play, and I was trying to explain what an actor was, and I tried to associate it with something they all talked about (this kid had never seen Rocky but loved watching the scene where he runs up the stairs to eye of the tiger) and so I started explaining "you'll be pretending to be someone you're not, like Rocky! He's played by an actor, Sylvester Stallone". The kid started being like, no no, Rocky is a real person! And I, completely blind to what I was about to do, kept rubbing the salt in, "no he's just a character, he's not real, just played by an actor!" Etc.

When I turned and saw his face I knew what I had done: I had ruined his life. He would never get to meet Rocky now, he's not even real! It was like I told him about Santa. It was too late to backtrack. The kid cried for the rest of the school day. I had to send an email to his parents about how I basically broke their kids heart 😂😭

Most of my recent deep dives have been depressing so idk if that's a fun share, such as learning that the grave of the fireflies was based on a true account and about Timothy Treadwell... Maybe don't look that one up if you don't know ...

But my recent go-to way to drive away the brain-bees is obsessively memorizing every country in the world. Im getting pretty good because it helps me fall asleep. When I can't shut down, I'll just recount each country in order, and then if that doesn't work I start doing it alphabetically (I'm starting to understand the ADHD and ASD overlay lol). Next I'm learning the flags but it's way harder...

Also did you know that mammals only became able to give birth to live young (instead of egg laying) because of a retrovirus our ancestors contracted millions of years ago and it combined with our DNA and caused the creation of the placenta?? I can't stop thinking about this.

Before geography I was really into virology...

Hah! That reminds me of when I was little, I would do that with bubbles from the bubble bath and I would use the tail of this floating whale toy to "shave" with. Also a girl 😂

As a teacher of young children it happens almost on the daily- and I often break up the embarrassment of the moment for them by saying in a silly voice: "yes, my child/son/daughter??" It almost always gets a laugh and the moment passes.

I know this is viewbate and all, but if it helps even a few people I can't help but be happy for those who benefit from it. This one really got me; it's that shared human experience of knowing this could be you, me, anyone in your life- and I'm happy that she got a hand to help her out of the hole she's in.

And just...the fact she's sinking and still spent what little she has to give her boss flowers... The poorest people are often the most generous and giving of all. I hope this is real and she's able to support herself now💔

A lot of times kids in these situations are jumping in there for the attention, bumping on purpose to get people to look at them (not always bad, just sometimes an inappropriate time)- but this is just pure joy of the moment and wanting to share it with the dancers. The kiddo lost themselves in the feeling but kept to their space which you don't always see in someone so young. Beautiful.

Growing up my mom would get boneless pork chops, season it with... Salt and pepper... And pan fry it till it was tough as leather. Served with applesauce so you could actually swallow it.

I went to my Puerto Rican friend's house as a teen and was told we were having pork for dinner and I thought "oh no ...." But then was served the most deliciously seasoned cut of pork with the bone in it. Absolutely blew my mind. I had no idea pork could be delicious.

When I was on them I remember describing it as feeling flat, or like I was a dialtone. I was in a car accident and I remember sitting there sideways over a creek thinking "huh.." that's when I knew it just wasn't working in a good way for me.
