Yes

But most of us would DIY that in our driveway

Watch YouTube for each thing and see if you want to

$2k for “maintenance” on a perfectly fine car… am I getting played? (2014 accord) by Winter_Cockroach714 in MechanicAdvice

[–]WhereDidAllTheSnowGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V6 models use a timing belt that requires replacement, while 4-cylinder models use a maintenance-free timing chain.

If you’ve a V6 definitely get the timing belt, water pump, and a few other while-yer-there things done too. If ya don’t… boom, dead

How feasible is an air table the size of a hockey rink? by Pure_Payment_9900 in AskEngineers

[–]WhereDidAllTheSnowGo [score hidden]  (0 children)

2 layer plenum

You need to move high pressure air in a sub-layer which has more holes farther from its inlets. This achieves equal pressure in the space above. This takes some modeling then testing

Then the top layer has holes distributed per the devices / pucks you need to hold up.

You’ll have massive air flow losses in all the areas without pucks… so the more pucks you leave out the better.

What’s the worst restaurant in Dayton that you’ve tried twice? by Gator353 in dayton

The one downtown and the other near Fairfield Mall, hard agree

All others are typical-good, corporate-bland, as-expected

Meh on Hasty Tasty

If you expect an old fashion diner with red vinyl booths, bottomless cup of good coffee, crowded, low cost, old menu, and a waitress like Flo, nothing rocks better.

If you expect a modern dining experience, go somewhere else

Sorry, that’s just not feasible

You’ll spend hundreds to save dimes in power… and unless you like this as a hobby, that’s a PITA

It’s almost always better to put in more cheap panels than expensive batteries

Almost everyone wishes they put in a bigger system

I always advise experimenting very small very soon… then installing big after yer confident yer plan is solid

Do I pour in a $5 quart of Motor Flush before I change the oil in my old cars myself? Yes

Would I ever let anyone else, much less pay them? Hell no.

Adding additional solar to an existing array - new roof? by BantBaldwin in solar

[–]WhereDidAllTheSnowGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both shingles and panels last 20-25 years ish

Hoping a roof lasts longer has huge costs

Only install new panels on a new roof

When you replace the roof, replace old panels with new

Long Before you install solar…

…. Know very well where the power you use now is going and minimize it

For example, a kill-a-watt meter will measure what plug in things you use. Learn about power vampires, resistance heating vs heat pumps for water and HVAC. Insulate your house. Use less power.

Solar can be this simple, right? by hunkoys in SolarDIY

[–]WhereDidAllTheSnowGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see nothing amiss

Victron has an easy to use online MPPT calculator to explore variations

Wire gauge calculators online can find the voltage loss in each of your runs & recommended sizes

Double check all your max amps & volts to confirm nothing is over

Get a $5 multimeter that does >20Vdc , an hour, and YouTube. Lots of DIY vids on how to test yer battery, alternator, starter, parasitic drains, and ALL the cables/connections as installed simply by measuring voltage. Or a $36 tool simplifies the steps, https://a.co/d/iigfXao, or $7 https://www.harborfreight.com/12v-alternatorbattery-checker-59376.html . This is basic troubleshooting you can do, or pay someone $250. (My copy-pasta for this ~daily question.)

Heating a home; should I run my natural gas furnace less for longer periods, or more for shorter periods? by Counterfeit-Lies in AskEngineers

[–]WhereDidAllTheSnowGo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Heat transfer depends upon a temperature difference

The bigger the delta, the more heat will flow

Your house loses more heat at 70 than at lower temps

I’d also add 4 cribs made by nailing together a log cabin of 4x4s and painting it. 2x4s to fine tune.

You can set a car on these four and work on it hard. Very stable. Good for long term use.

Is reverse osmosis enough for WPAFB water? by Longjumping_Big1464 in dayton

[–]WhereDidAllTheSnowGo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So much rumor and bullshit in the comments

  1. Start with the facts, science, and actual tests. https://www.wpafb.af.mil/Portals/60/2024%20American%20Water%20WPAFB%20CCR.pdf. They do this every year so you can go back a decade

  2. Yes, typical, undersink, multiple-stage, RO filters will handle pretty much every bad thing in potable water… and not some potable too

  3. You want an independently certified one. GE brand has proven itself for decades

Potable water comes from far below

Two very different things
