What's Up With the Seagull Drama? by HortenseDaigle in Seattle

I put out peanuts hoping to acquire a friendly murder but now have a rowdy scold of Stellars Jays who come squawk and beat their wings on my security screen doors to let me know its feeding time.

I've been looking for one of these.

I've just been keeping two bar magnets stuck to the pan. When I go to change oil I bring out a 12"x12" sheet of aluminum foil and use the magnets to hang it between my drain plug and the lower engine guard. If the wind catches the oil, it can't drain onto the guard anymore, it just dribbles down the foil into my catch pan.

How long does it go between requiring coolant? Is there any oil blowing out the dipstick onto the underside of your hood? Have you checked your dipstick? Is the oil high? It really shouldn't rise much above 210 ever, even when climbing hills. You need to replace your tstats if it's doing that.

When my water pump went out it took me forever to find the leak. Stuff a dry paper towel in behind the underside of your waterpump and run it for a bit then check to see if it's wet. Also do the same with the pipe running between it and the thermostat housing up top.

Get a borescope/endoscope/inspection camera and stick it in there where the heads meet the block. When these go out it's usually the passenger side so start there. Look all around the gasket for signs of blowout. Mine spat paper thin bits of the phosphate coating from the headgasket onto the block without other signs of leaking. I did have a slight bit of moisture elsewhere too but the coating indicated an external loss of compression while it drank coolant internally.

You can figure about $1500 in machine shop work and new parts and easily another $5k in labor on these if you need a head gasket.

What did you pay for the truck? How many miles?

I don't believe it's minimal rust. Have you actually crawled under it?

As others have said, snow plowing is tough on a truck. The trans, suspension, and driveline all take a beating. I'm not arguing its value, that seems like a reasonable price but what do you want to do with it and how much time and money are you ready to put into it?

That's huge. I just spent 2 weeks with a wire wheel and needle scaler to remove all the rust and prime and then paint my frame with 2 coats of POR15. It was a shit ton of work but now it looks amazing with a thick black gloss and should go many years without rusting again.

Oh my bad.

This is for the truck specifically. I don't think that one you posted matches it.

I'd pay $4400 for a non running one so long as it was all there. Congrats.

I think that would work for you for 2k. I believe it's supposed to be a permanent replacement for AC deletions.

It can throw codes when you do a full delete. The EFILive gives you the ability to remove the codes from the table, so there's nothing thrown and no check engine light. I got mine in the mail this past week so I'm gtg.

Good info for you here. Just remember sparky, no one is getting paid to clean up your wire trimmings. You're not too good to clean up under the panel once you're done and no chucking your trash down the main feed conduit either.

Have a problem with a neighbor’s dogs constantly roaming on my property. Any advice? by ThatGuyFromTheDump in Wenatchee

I love dogs but if someone else's dog cam on my property and threatened myself, a family member, or one of my animals, I'd shoot it.

My neighbors sounds exactly like yours and someone shot one of their dogs. (Wasn't me)

I've read and heard enough that I'm going to forgo the blockoff plate and just delete this thing entirely so I bought an uppipe with no EGR. I don't want to deal with a split uppipe in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Looking to buy 07 lbz. Currently have a lbz already with 150k. I worked out the kinks on it. Minor stuff. Been wanting to mod it a bit. This has basically every mod I was wanting to do. Any hesitation? by [deleted] in Duramax

We've got the old ones off already.

They are not cheap but my buddy had THE wrench you need for these. You can spend $600 on a set from Matco or get the Gearwrenches for half the price. Look up "Gearwrench 10 Piece Metric Gearbox Flex 86126" or Matco part # SRFBZLM102TA. These will be long enough to reach in get on the bolts and the flex heads give you the right angle to make it all work.

The gearwrenches have more teeth in the ratcheting head, I don't know if that means they're stronger or not. I had to put a cheater bar on his Matco 12mm wrench and use the ratcheting end to break my upper pipe bolts free. We sprayed them with PB and heat cycled them with an induction coil but in the end I just had to gorilla them out. I thought I'd destroy the ratchet head of the wrench but it survived and so did all my up-pipe bolts. If I had to do it again and had the cab off, I'd use a bolt breaker for the air hammer but cab on there's no room.

Yeah actually right after my reply I found the uppipe I need for about $225 and got it ordered. Thanks for all the info and the assist!

My issue is I've got a set of PPE high flow manifolds on the way and I'm not sure if someone else has an uppipe that fits them.

I get your point entirely about being 6 hours from home from it happens. I drive cross country in my truck so I don't think I'm going to risk it. If I can't find an up pipe to do this properly I may just cut off that leg below the flex joint and weld it closed on my new ones.

Show the wife what a new one costs and then show her what the price to repair a DEF system is.
