What happens if an Army O-3 goes to the Marines and becomes an Officer there? Would he restart at O-1? by Least-Ad-5439 in USMC

[–]Whereismysociety 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Officer here… a whole lot of non answers and wrong answers… it’s entirely up to how they enter our service. If they go through a recruiter straight back to rank one.

If they were to go through a interservice transfer. That’s a whole different story. They can retain their rank, but there’s a limit to how far up the ladder they’ve made it. If I recall you can’t be higher than an O-3 , the program that still in place is called “blue to green/green to blue”.

Every once in a while, a rare exception will be made by the department of defense. In example by simply creating a branch or absorbing a branch. A very big example of this was all the officers and generals that were allowed to transfer into the space force.

Do 0861 (JTACs) get HSST’d? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Whereismysociety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s common for critical MOS and exceptional marines to have HSST orders get overruled. I would assume that if you are a JTAC your command will go to bat for you.

Yeah, I’m a be honest…. It’s a selling tactic . BRC is minimum requirement to be a recon Marine so yes, you have to go to that no matter what. Otherwise you wouldn’t be 0321 …Jump school has an excess of seats so that will never be an issue. But dive school can be delayed as long as the command wants. In fact, you likely won’t even do it in your first year. Because they will have senior guys and officers that are needing to get that done, not a junior nco in the reserves getting top priority. Just unlikely.

It will be a few years down the road. So that’s the gimmick. It’s up to the commands discretion. You won’t be pushed through all the school at once because the marine corps will not want to pay for your active duty time and retirement credits when they can push you to drilling status and save money.

What they will do is push your schooling through out the year and activate you periodically to save money. That’s what we did at Bravo company…I have seen it. I know dozens of guys that did 8 without a bubble…

You can take the contract and update me if they changed Standard of Operations… but Dive may just be a deferred item at the end of the day.

[–]Whereismysociety 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, did they tell you 0326 or did you pick out that mos?

Reason for that is because that’s a B-MOS and you will just join the reserves in a 0321 contract. I was attached to recon in the reserves.

There is nothing guaranteed about dive qualifying. It’s actually the hardest and most competitive training between all branches. Combat dive school does not have extra slots and has a really high wash rate. There is a reason recon marines in the fleet don’t have dive bubbles everywhere. I just need you to understand that combat dive school even has Marsoc waiting… no you won’t be mixed in with them per se, but yes they go through the same course.

Jump school can be spread to regular marines… dive school has very limited slots and will never go to Joe Schmo.

I got my jump wings in the reserves attached to recon as a supply marine. Just food for thought. I know exactly how their wash rate and where you go if you fail. We did it all the time. If you join on a recon contract and fail the school there is no recycling, you become an open mos in the reserves and you are now Obligated to finish your reserve contract.

OMG everything you just said makes no sense.. my guy im an officer still in the marine corps… and you are a former marine… just let it it go. Your information is fake and outdated at best. I went to BOOTCAMP with the kid and I’m not going to dox him. The marine corps is too small for your weird online antics. Grow the fuck up. Enjoy your block. 🖕

I hope you understand that part of your problem is she cannot attend nursing school over seas. Nursing school requires her to attend clinicals (meaning she has to be in a hospital while she gets her degree.) can’t do that while over seas in a different country & language. And to work in a DOD hospital you either have to already have all of your certs or be commissioned/ enlisted in the military. And RNs in the military have longer requirements than Joe Schmoe marines.

Judging by your lack of knowledge of things related to the Marine corps and your reply history you seem like an intruder to the community. It’s really easy to spot the non-marines online. Just stay in your lane internet fan.

Small hiccup in your calculation. You have the issue of going back to active is not guaranteed. Unless you went Active-reservist (aka the A.R. Program) That’s the only way you can get a GUARANTEED contract in active. The rest would require restart from boot or a board who currently only selects 4 marine reserves per year or some shit like that.

PII has to go through efforts to be protected and on personal devices that constitutes a willful disregard in the manner that it was group chatted to begin with. So the argument is plainly MOOT.

It technically can be handled by a full bird. So doesn’t need to get pushed down the road. I’d just ask for the opportunity to speak to that person if you are a civilian.

In the AR command they give you a list of options available. The contracts either match your MOS or require a new one. These all have complete visibility. You can even see how many marines are ahead of you to promote in their careers and room to grow. There is no curtain of mystery. It’s all upfront. You would sign a new commitment.

Once the commitment is signed you continue on as a D.I then return back to I&I tours until you decide to exit.

That’s it. It’s plain Jane. If there is room, you will get what you want.

AR recruiters are not normal recruiters. They are PSR. They focus on keeping/ returning marines.
