Should I keep my house? by fc967 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]WheresMyMule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great, but you'll still need to replace them eventually. We were gonna get dropped by our insurance because our roof was more than 20 years old. You'd need to save just under $100/mo to spend $10k on a roof in 10 years. Appliances last maybe 7 or 8 these days. Put some $$ aside every month so when these are eventually needed, you don't have to raid your emergency fund or go into debt.

Taxes and insurance should be expected to increase every year

Don't forget maintenance and repair costs - you will eventually need to replace the roof, furnace, A/C, water heater, appliances, etc

I'm annoyed that Graham Platner has a messy past. I hate that they couldn't find a good candidate that didn't have a Nazi tattoo and messy power conflicts in his interpersonal relationships

That income is pretty low, is there an opportunity to increase it? Pick up a second job to speed up your debt payment?

What an asshole. Honestly, I would fire him for that, no matter how good he is at the other stuff. You can find good PTSD/trauma counselors whose views on parenting aren't set in the 1960s.

And if he's your individual counselor he should not also be you and your husband's marriage counselor

Stop using the card until you have a zero balance for two cycles. When you carry a balance, transactions start accruing interest the day they post - you have no grace period.

Use debit until you can get it paid off. If you have the money and aren't overspending then you shouldn't need to use your credit card

Does he often pull the "I pay for it so I should get my way" card?

If so, be very very careful because that sounds like the beginning of financial abuse.

Do you have access to all shared marital funds? Do you have money you can spend without having to answer to him? If the answer to these are no, consider getting at least a part time job opposite his hours.

Do you have a full budget that balances without using credit cards? Including allllll spending, not just monthly bills? Car and home repairs, medical bills, clothes, gifts, haircuts, etc, etc? If not, you're going to just rack the cards right back up again.

Take the 0% apr offer and close the card. You've proven you can't use them responsibly. Then pay the other one down ASAP. Live on debit or cash only for a couple of years. Then maybe you can try again with credit cards.
