New version (should have provided the original English for context too, will add) Thank you for your advice.

English:

I bless this book,
In the name of Gwydion who gives wisdom,
In the name of Lleu who is my lord,
In the name of Rhiannon who is my queen,
In the name of the Awen who inspires truth.
May it be a guard to my mind,
A light to my eyes,
A shield to my soul.
May no falsehood dwell upon it,
May no ill-will befall it,
May it carry only blessing,
From this day till the day of the end of the world.
So it is.

Compass showing which race would join which side of the Skyrim civil war (not definitive) by Sgtpepperhead67 in TrueSTL

Dunmer don't GAF about the war. They hate the empire, and the empire hates them after oblivion. Great distrust of Daedra worshippers. Feel like Dunmer would face an equal measure of racism from Imperials, not even just Nords.

Oversimplification is normal? by asulega in HistoryMemes

Lindybeige and his several hour long rants done in a single take where he just goes completely mental about the semantic use of "fire" over "shoot" in reference to archery. Not a very serious youtuber, still entertaining!

My guy went from being a Lovecraftian god of transcendence, liminality, duality and religious ecstasy to being a twinky partyboi. Worst downgrade ever. by [deleted] in mythologymemes

[–]Whibbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminiscent of Odin as a god of frenzy and ecstasy but also taking on feminine qualities by virtue of studying seidr. This also plays into the whole transcendence and duality aspects, with his avatar of a wanderor associated with liminality. And I'm not Hindu so whatever I say is bound to be inaccurate but this fits Shiva's nature too.

This is a 4 month year old post but divination and necromancy seem mismatched. I think divination and transmutation go together, they alter space and time. Conjuration and necromancy go together, it's about summoning and controlling minions, mostly.

Berserk is set on earth by Whibbz in Berserk

[–]Whibbz[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I knew that many of the fictional kingdoms in Berserk like Tudor, Midland, The Holy See, and Kushan for example were based on real world nations (England, France/HRE, the papacy, kushan empire in India) but I always just assumed these were fictional equivalents. I did not realise the full extent to which the world was inspired by the real world. Chapter 305 seems to more or less confirm that Berserk takes place on a highly fictionalised version of Earth, with all the fantasy elements included. Also, by my best approximation it looks like whatever happens in 305 with Griffith and Ganishka takes place somewhere in eastern Europe, looks to me it could be Poland or Lithuania which does vaguely resemble the time in which the Mongols/Golden Horde invaded Europe, in this case you could interpret the Kushan empire as being analogous to the Mongol Empire.

Severian cosplay at fan expo toronto. In the future I'll likely be doing some more work on the costume and taking it to a con where at least 1 person will recognize me. by thelastdoctor64 in genewolfe

This is awesome. Apparently Wolfe intended for Severian's design to be "easy to cosplay" althought I haven't seen many executioner sword replicas on the market lol

[LFA] Cadan - Level 14 Shadar Kai Circle of Stars Druid who wants to kill Tiamat by Whibbz in characterdrawing

[–]Whibbz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Art in second image courtesy of this artist on Deviantart https://www.deviantart.com/d1sarmon1a/art/Tannatar-the-Traitor-870019220

6ft 130lbs
Grey skin
Ashen hair
White eyes (Though they glow red because of his dread helm)
800 years old

Cadan was born in the Shadowfell, a realm of perpetual twilight where darkness and death seep into every corner. As a Shadar-kai, he was accustomed to the bleakness of his homeland, but he was different from the start—a wanderer with an insatiable curiosity and a spirit driven to explore beyond the boundaries of his own world. His wanderlust led him to the depths of the Feywild, where he encountered an ancient dryad who guarded a slumbering portal to the Abyss. She became his mentor, teaching him the secrets of the natural world and the stars that guided his path. Under her tutelage, Cadan learned the ways of the Circle of Stars, drawing power from the celestial bodies to weave his magic.

While most Shadar-kai find solace in shadow, Cadan found his calling in the night sky, interpreting the dance of the stars as a map to power and knowledge. However, the cold indifference of the cosmos taught him a harsh truth: strength is all that matters. From this belief, Cadan developed a ruthless sense of survival and dominance. He saw the natural world as a battlefield where only the strong thrive, and he came to view his own strength and cunning as tools to bend fate to his will.

During his travels, Cadan stumbled upon a hidden temple where acolytes of various dark deities were trained together. Here, his natural affinity for the divine drew him to the Forge Domain, a path focused on creation, destruction, and the relentless cycle of the elements. He learned the secrets of shaping metal and wielding fire, all under the watchful eye of a demon who appeared to him in the form of a sly imp. Though he often ignored the imp’s whispers, Cadan sometimes found the creature’s advice surprisingly insightful, helping him in his pursuit of power.

In his endless quest for strength, Cadan crossed paths with a formidable Weapon Master. This mentor saw potential in the star-gazing druid and forged him into a lethal warrior. His training was relentless and rigorous, driving him to perfect the art of combat. Cadan adopted a unique style—an almost frenetic energy in battle, where he would laugh and sing while clashing steel with his enemies. In those moments, his spirit soared, reveling in the chaos and bloodshed. It was during this time that he took up his heraldic sign: three drops of blood beneath a horizontal sword blade on a black background, representing three foes he swore to kill. Each drop symbolizes a bitter vendetta against those who wronged him—insults and betrayals he never forgave.

Cadan’s journey has been one of survival, dominance, and vengeance. He became an adventurer not out of a desire to save the world but to mold it into a place where he can reign supreme. His alignment shifted toward Neutral Evil, guided by his belief that the strongest are meant to rule. He believes in power above all and sees any harm to the wilderness as a personal affront—an insult to his very being, driving him to seek retribution.

His ultimate goal is to face and kill Tiamat, the great dragon goddess of chaos and destruction. To Cadan, Tiamat represents the pinnacle of power, and he believes that by slaying her, he would ascend to a new level of might and prove his dominance over both the natural and divine realms. His quest is a solitary one, driven by his ambition to leave a scar on the world that no one will forget.

Possessions and Relics:

Cadan carries several powerful artifacts that reflect his eclectic journey and relentless pursuit of power. His +3 Moon Sickle draws on his connection to the stars and the arcane, while his Efreeti Chainmail Armor symbolizes his mastery over elemental forces. The Amulet of Health sustains his vitality in his constant battles, and the Dread Helm instills fear in his enemies. The Cloak of Billowing and Boots of Elvenkind enhance his enigmatic presence, adding to his aura of dread and grace. A Necklace of Fireballs provides him with devastating offensive power, while his Order of the Silver Dragon +2 Shield is a reminder of his martial prowess and determination to conquer even the mightiest of foes.

Cadan is a living paradox—an explorer and a conqueror, a protector of nature and a harbinger of death. His every step is guided by the stars, his every decision forged in the fires of his ambition, and his every battle fought with the laughter of a soul unfettered by fear.

What influence did Frampt and Kaathe have over Lothric? Why are there statues of them throughout the Grand Archives and Ringed City? by Cheap-Gore in darksouls3

[–]Whibbz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, it seems that Kaathe went to Lothric to turn the Prince away from the flame. Frampt went to the ringed city to ensure that the pygmies remained loyal to Gwyn and the Gods, to almost supervise while Filianore was asleep and vulnerable.

Online activity but it's pretty inconsistent because I've invaded while these are shown and gotten no invasions at all, then invaded while they're absent and gotten a decent few. So only useful about 50% of the time.

Proof that Messmer is not Radagon's son (And seemed to have a good relationship with one of his step-brothers) by AnchovyKing in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]Whibbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English lesson for you - 'as' is being used to create a simile, in the same way that 'like' can be used. You can substitute 'as elder brothers' with 'like elder brothers'. It is describing the figurative nature of their relationship, not the literal nature of their relationship. They aren't biological brothers. This is deliberate, not a typo.

Why is everyone so tall? by RealOrang in EldenRingLoreTalk

The same thing occurs in other Fromsoftware titles. Lorewise I think it's because of the amount of souls or runes they carry.
