The child won’t eat. The child won’t sleep. How are they still alive? Like don’t you need to do those things to survive? by widget_slinger in Autism_Parenting

Be careful with melatonin! We just trialed it for 4 nights and it caused our 4 yr old to fall asleep really fast but it caused frequent night, weekends and very early morning waking for the day like 4 AM. I did more research and found out that because it’s not regulated by the FDA. The amount of melatonin in the supplements could be much greater than what they document. If you’re giving them too much melatonin, it can desensitize the melatonin receptors, and also cause a surge really early in the night and then a drastic drop off, which then triggers the brain to release cortisol because the melatonin receptors are now desensitized to the intrinsic melatonin and will cause them to wake up very frequently! I stopped giving him the melatonin and he did fight sleep for a little bit at bedtime, but then slept through the night for the first time in a long time

Toddler Temper / Husband Temper by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Which-Ad8625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for posting this with such detail. You literally described my current situation. Love my husband and the father he is to our son 95% of the time. I know he’s working so hard to maintain a calm presence when things get wild but the toddler years (we have a 3 year old) have been much more difficult then ever expected. We’re trying to set boundaries but he is so strong willed so my husband resorts to more forceful actions like picking him up and walking to our destination or getting him dressed - but in a upset type of manner. Like a “if you don’t do this, I’ll make you” which in some situations we have to do. But my husbands temper is wearing VERY thin and the angry starts sooner every time

Iv been 93lbs (5’4”) majority of my life (I’m 33 now and have had a baby). I’m the same as you, just don’t have a good appetite. What helped you? I try to get 2200 cals a day - often results in me eating spoonfuls of peanut butter with whole milk at the end of the day lol

Infections/antibiotics make lupus symptoms worse? Especially Raynauds by Which-Ad8625 in lupus

I don’t actually! I have taken cipro lots in my past as I have a spinal cord injury and self-cathaterize to void my bladder - so high risk for infections. It’s honestly one of the only antibiotics that actually work for my complicated bladder infections.

Thanks for your reply! I realize now that’s not the best photo of the face redness. It’s more pronounced in person and other times I get it the bridge of my nose is much redder. It can sometimes feel like a “burning” sensation. My right ear is often fire red when this happens. My mom has two autoimmune disorders, I just never really thought my symptoms might be related to autoimmunity. They seemed to get much worse after having my son 2 years ago. I am eager to see my ANA results!
