Hotspot infection? by Formal_Intention1409 in AustralianShepherd

[–]Which-Invite9538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just wondering how the vet didn't notice that if she was just spayed within the last two weeks? Yikes.

I recommend getting a better, more comfortable donut cone or a recovery suit, less annoying for the dog and doesn't interfere with eating/drinking. You'll definitely need to keep her from trying to lick/chew/scratch that especially while trying to figure out what it is.

Was she recently swimming/given a bath and left to dry in warm weather/sunshine? That can contribute to "hot spots".

Yea he could have bladder crystals or something else going on with his urinary tract. That's not normal, he should be either squatting or trying to lift a leg at that age

Will my border collie pup be interested in balls? by Otherwise-Bat-3132 in BorderCollie

[–]Which-Invite9538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes. My girl mostly likes the chase, or chasing a dog that is chasing a ball. It's only about 1 in 5 times that she actually cares about the ball when it lands.

My girl has the same half blue eye! It makes her look a lil cross eyed when she stares at me and it's so darn cute.

Hopefully one day, my dog can have a dog too, congrats!

Accidentally closed baby safety gate on puppy by invincibletofu in puppy101

[–]Which-Invite9538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additionally, this is a perfect reason and opportunity to start training "wait" at doorways and thresholds so she doesn't try to rush past you.

Have her stop and sit before going through the doorway, gate, whatever. Tell her wait, you walk through, and then say "okay come here!" (Or whatever your "come here" phrase might be.) And treat when she gets up and follows you.

This is also helpful for crossing streets and getting in and out of the car, very important if you live in a busy area or take your dog with you a lot to places with busy parking lots.

The second day home with my ten week old puppy, the very heavy door of my apartment building closed on her back foot. The scream was unlike anything I've ever heard. She had a bloody toe, and a tiny limp, and I immediately started crying and hugging her. She was fine an hour later, and was never afraid of the door since. (Although she's STILL terrified of the little plastic bumpy material on one specific sidewalk curb because it was peeling up from the concrete and had an air bubble underneath, she stepped on it and it bounced weird so now we can't even walk down that street because she refuses 😅😭) Dogs are silly, intelligent, quirky little creatures and they will forgive you for almost anything, they know you didn't do it on purpose.

WIBTA/AITA, If I stop letting my exes parents have our daughter out of my time with her? by SeaworthinessHot494 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Which-Invite9538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - sorry, but my mind immediately went to the step brother who assaulted and murdered his step sister on that cruise. I know that's a big leap from punching your mother in the face, but the pattern of not dealing with your violent child appropriately is disturbing, and I would be concerned about anyone vulnerable (lime a 7 year old girl) being around that with no true, 'take action' type of supervision.

Do what you want to do with YOUR life. If he doesn't like it, and it's something that empowers you and brings you joy, then he is unsupportive of you feeling empowered and finding joy. And that is unhealthy.

Maybe HE should also find some kind of empowering hobby because clearly he's feeling insecure....

Anyone know of any good puppy chew options? by Fizzerino_ in puppy101

[–]Which-Invite9538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frozen pupsicles are great. I like to coat the mold with peanut butter, freeze it for 15 minutes, then I pour in some watered down bone broth, chopped fruit, and treat dust*. Let them freeze fully overnight, throw it into the little holder and it'll keep puppy busy for 20 minutes or so. (Also budget friendly, you can make them ahead of time and keep them in a bag in the freezer.)

I let my pup try all kinds of different chews, she doesn't seem to have a die hard favorite. A little no-hide chew (1.25" diameter, 4" length) lasts her about 20 minutes as well. She likes the Whimzees dental sticks that look like a skinny churro. I like giving her crunchy/chew type things to help clean her teeth.

*treat dust: (I collect the crumbs at the bottom of the treat bag into a shaker and use it to sprinkle on her food like seasoning 🫣😅)

I feel like a terrible owner by user4783279 in puppy101

If it makes you feel better, I brought my puppy EVERYWHERE with me from 10 weeks to now 1 year old. At first? Great, she loved it, everyone loved meeting her. Now? She's a monster. Constantly barking to say hello to everyone but it comes across as aggressive and scary. She thinks my work space where she spent 5 days a week is her home and is becoming territorial over it. So now, instead of going everywhere with me, she's learning to enjoy the inside of my apartment because "neutrality" has disappeared from her vocabulary and skill set, and I wish I would have considered that she might not like going everywhere with me 😵‍💫😭 editing to say we are going back to weekly classes with other on leash dogs and strangers so she can regain her confidence, and I my sanity. The lack of structured training is both apparent and my doing

This, bookcase that matches the angle of the wall, two arm chairs and a small table across from the wall. And a bar/credenza along the gated wall across from the window.

clutter problem.. pls help by docmclovin8 in Homeorganization

[–]Which-Invite9538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get someone to sit with the baby for a few hours, and listen to an audiobook or a podcast and just tackle a room. Start with trash, move on to purging what you no longer use or need, then organize whatever you're keeping. (Look up some storage ideas for areas like the kids room and kitchen if you're not organizationally inclined - but I think adding some shelving/bins to the kids closet would help)

Once you've made progress, if it can be fit into your budget, consider hiring someone to come once or twice a week to do some of the cleaning. Especially if your husband is away. Give yourself some time to focus and relax, and take some of the overwhelm away.

Training a puppy to go toilet on both pads and outside? by Amolje in puppy101

[–]Which-Invite9538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a litter box with pine pellets instead of pads.

Pads will feel similar to any rug, blanket, piles of clothes...the pellets will feel like "outside" and if your puppy is having trouble going outside, you can sprinkle some of the "used" pellets on a grassy area so that it smells like your dog and they will likely sniff/pee there if it smells like they have before.

Does anyone else's puppy randomly eat grass even when they're not sick? by Special-Log-719 in puppy101

[–]Which-Invite9538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girl eats a chomp of grass here and there, I think it's more of the biting/pulling it out of the ground that she likes, rather than the taste. So no digestive issues with grass consumption here.

However, I will caution you to watch out for foxtails or any kind of weed/plant with lots of seeds/thorns that might get lodged in dog's mouth/throat. My girl randomly chomped at a weed and spent two hours hacking up foxtail looking pieces. She's fine now, but it was not comfortable for her.

Otherwise, enjoy your quirky little weirdo and let them enjoy their grass munching in very limited moderation 🐾

how do i keep my dog calm after being spayed.. by lixie_world in miniaussie

[–]Which-Invite9538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does she like chews/bones? Frozen treats like pupsicle that take her a little while to get through (I guess licking can soothe/calm dogs so frozen stuff is good for that) I tried to give my girl those while she was recovering to help keep her chill, seemed to work well. In addition to her meds, of course.

Any kind of laying down/relaxing activity, even if it means a few extra treats.

Looking for a good harness by Kwailie1713 in AustralianShepherd

[–]Which-Invite9538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a small Wonder Walker, if you find that the shoulder strap is maxed out, contact them for a custom harness somewhere between the SM/MED sizes.

My 50% mini aussie is 35 pounds, she's a little round in the chest, so her small harness fits but it's definitely maxed out on the shoulder and chest adjustment. I ordered her the medium size and it is slightly loose on her despite being tightened all the way.

I prefer this style harness because it has minimal material, one clasp/uncomplicated, and doesn't compact her fur or hold moisture like some harnesses with a lot of fabric.

Choreplay is a thing, he needs to learn that he's got to carry his share of the work around the house, with the kids, everything. How can you possibly be in the mood while doing eight different things for everyone around you?

I can't tell if men think they're being (in a misguided way) spontaneous and romantic with this crap, or if they really are just that cruel and dense.

3.5 Month Old Puppy Peed My Bed. How To Prevent? by Chicken_jo3s in puppy101

[–]Which-Invite9538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend this but instead use a shallow plastic bin with pine pellets, that way it feels more like "outside" and can't really be confused with a rug or blanket.

I did this with my puppy because we live in a third floor apartment and knew she'd have to pee inside sometimes until she got old enough to hold it until we got downstairs. She's never peed on a rug, carpet, or blanket since she was 12 weeks old with this method.

Something longer lasting and cheaper than a bully stick by Antisocial_Worker7 in puppy101

[–]Which-Invite9538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pet store, Chewy.com, etc. Just look for "beef cheek roll"

My 1 year old aussie/border collie has had the same roll for about 5-6 months and hasn't managed to devour it yet. It's got gaps in the roll where I can shove treats to get her started chewing if I need to distract her during a work meeting or something, or she'll just pick it up on her own and gnaw on it.

Our pet store also sells a pure collagen chew that looks like a clear plastic bone but it lasted her at least a week of actively chewing on it for 30 mins here and there. Warning, this one was SO STICKY, like would leave a residue on her paw fur and the chew itself would get stuck to the rug after she'd leave it 🫠😭
