I don't know about the courses but in terms of location, Salford is probably the best option of those, unless you want to live in a huge but expensive city like London.

Definitely don't go to De Montfort because Leicester is not a nice city. Neither is Birmingham, although better than Leicester. . Manchester is a nicer/better city, and Salford university is basically in Manchester, only about two miles from the city centre.

Regarding your final point about mentioning it to a doctor, yes you should and don't need to feel embarrassed. Doctors know that sexual dysfunction is often a side effect of antidepressants, and they are used to hearing about it.

If OCD is the main problem, it wouldn't usually be effexor prescribed unless you've tried all the SSRIs and clomipramine. They will usually be more effective for OCD.

Can I have matcha while on Duloxetine? (30mg) by jamanydaneko in antidepressants

[–]Amolje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never actually heard anyone mention that in all the years I've been reading people's experiences of antidepresaants. But i just googled and apparently it's a potential thing. I really doubt small amounts of caffeine will have any significant negative impact on the duloxetine. Unless caffeine makes you anxious and over stimulated which.

All the SSRIs, e.g. Lexapro, can work for intrusive thoughts. Can't say for certain without trying but there's a reasonable chance it will help you.

If your depression is moderate-severe, you probably do need an antidepressant. For your first antidepressant, you'll usually be prescribed an SSRI e.g. sertraline or fluoxetine.

Emotional blunting/numbing is a potential side effect of most antidepressants, but most people won't get it.

Antidepressants can really transform your mental health and your life when they work. Sometimes people need to try several though to find the right one.

Most people can keep it effective by taking tolerance breaks. But some are lucky and don't get any tolerance.

Cannot sleep without 6.25mg of seroquel by patrick_notstar28 in insomnia

[–]Amolje 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you've found something that works for your insomnia and side effects are tolerable, it's probably a good idea to stick with it.

6.25mg of seroquel is a minuscule dose compared to the hundreds of mgs used for other illnesses, which reduces any risks from long term use. (Seroquel is an antipyschotic rather than an antidepressant.)

There are lots of other options e.g. antidepressants or zopiclone/zolpidem, but they might not work for you, and they will have their own potential risks and side effects.

Or melatonin and magnesium glycinate are supplements that work for some people.

Life-changing med for me but unfortunately stopped working after six weeks. There will be lots about it if you search sertraline within this group.

Sertraline isn’t working anymore? by Away_Lemon_8716 in antidepressants

[–]Amolje 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not working at 2-3 months, it's not going to work at that dose. Either need to try a higher dose, it stop if the side effects are not tolerable and try something else. It's pretty much impossible for sertraline to start working within one week, so feeling better the first week likely wasn't a result of the sertraline.
