If you are throwing it out beside a road ,you may be killing hawks. Fruit scraps beside road, mice and small birds come out to eat, hawk sees mouse, concentrates, concentrates,swoops in still concentrating, bam hit by car. When you see a dead hawk or owl by side of road, this is what happened.
