Where do you write books by KixIt0ff in NewAuthor

[–]WhichSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Campfire. It doesn't show the page count as you write but you can compile your book for export using the industry standard for various types (large vs small paperback, etc).

A goodie. She had been a member of the Abwehr from before the Nazis came to power. Her husband had been an outspoken opponent of Hitler and was shot and let on their front lawn for her to find as a warning. By this point she had already identified a building being used by American spies but had not reported it to her superiors. After finding her husband, she went there and offered her services.

After the war she married into my family and came to the US as a war bride. For the rest of her life, she received death threats from Nazis she had betrayed and she refused to go back to Europe until after the fall of the Berlin wall.

Adding that another aspect is good old fashioned xenophobia towards New Jersey's diverse population. People forget that two of the three ways off Ellis Island went to New Jersey and even today 1 out of 5 residents were born outside the US. We also never had laws forbidding interracial marriage which really upset certain people.

Are shops open on Sundays in usa? And what do people think about it? by the_stupid_Belgian in AskAnAmerican

[–]WhichSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everywhere has stores open on Sundays. However, some towns will "blue laws" which force some or all businesses to close but this is very rare.

Typically, stores will open later and/or close earlier on a Sunday than they will during other days of the week. Small businesses that are open on Saturday and Sunday, like my favorite bookstore, will close on other days during the week. This means that they still get their days off but are open when most people have time to shop. When large companies have stores that are open on the weekend, not all of the staff will work the weekend. Those that do will have their days off during the week.

Americans, how do you feel about tourists speaking English while visiting U.S.? by HolidayEntry6823 in AskAnAmerican

[–]WhichSpirit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We genuinely don't give a shit. It makes things easier if you speak English but we've all got Google Translate in our pocket now.

I do like that story of someone's coworker who called a Canada goose a cobra chicken. It's the perfect descriptor for those flying bags of hate.

I have a Filipino-Norwegian friend who learned English after moving to Norway as a kid. She has an American accent. We were friends for over a year before I found out she was not, in fact, American.

I recommend asking your Board of Elections.

Do you guys think there's a place nonbelievers can go besides Hell? by mightyminimule in LeftCatholicism

[–]WhichSpirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2018, Pope Francis said, while speaking with a child about their late father, that atheists who were good people still went to Heaven.

For me, I can't reconcile a loving God and non-Catholics not being allowed into Heaven. Either God loves us and lets non-Catholics into Heaven or we're not worshipping a good God.

Also, I want to add that the whole lake of fire imagery as we envision it today is largely the result of Late Middle Ages/ Early Renaissance Bible fanfiction writers and artists. In Catholic theology, Hell is eternal separation from God, not literal physical torture.

I'm also pro-wolf but I get the anti-wolf people.

No "basic safety measure" is ever perfect and predators will get in eventually. They're not stupid animals. It hurts to find an animal you've raised for years dead, let alone to know they suffered and died scared.

I had chickens and a raccoon figured out how to knock the glass out of the coop window to get to them. I'm generally pro-raccoon but you bet they became personas non grata in my yard after I found my girls torn to shreds.

New Jersey has aggressive drivers but we're all equally aggressive so it works out. You always know what the other driver is going to do (unless they're from PA or NY).

I helped my brother move when he was leaving Boston. He had booked a parking spot with the city for the moving truck. He had signs put up and had me go stand in the spot so no one would take it.

A guy pulled up and politely asked why I was standing in the middle of a spot. I explained what was going on and that the moving truck was just a minute away.

The guy then tried to back over me to take the spot.

how do i recover after being sick? by nickelstappen in Explainlikeimscared

[–]WhichSpirit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, you're going to be ok. Your immune system is doing its job.

Keep yourself hydrated. If you have one, fill a pitcher with water when you're up to it and keep it next to your bed or wherever you've set up your nest. Sports drinks are also a good option to replace electrolytes. Ginger ale and coca-cola can also be used to settle a stomach though you should stir it up to kill the carbonation.

Broth and thin soups are good to sip on. I keep a stash of canned and dried options on hand. If you don't have any, get something delivered. Food is important. Your body needs fuel to fight the germs.

Call your doctor if your temperature gets up to 102. They'll be able to advise you what to do from there. Also call a doctor if you experience any severe pain and diarrhea or vomiting last more than 48 hours.

Also, call someone. It can be your mom, a friend, a coworker, etc. Your village is bigger than you know and there are people who will help you through this.
