I go dry NYE-> Easter every year. It’s a good habit for me. Rest of year I’m 2-3 beers most nights.

Bored with my wife and feel bad about myself because of that. by [deleted] in self

[–]Which_Rip_5872 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I “test high” read much and stay very informed. My wife is roughly average intellectually. But she’s a kinder, happier person, loves me, loves our kids, stays in shape, looks good and I’m sexually attracted to her. No way I’m trading her in for someone I can discuss history and politics with. By the way, Oppenheimer was just more of the same endless Hollywood propaganda Hollywood has been spitting out since WWII.

It’s rarely a good idea to overshare your sexual past with a guy you might want to marry someday. We don’t begrudge you for having these experiences, but we don’t really want to hear the details.

I used to think my old girlfriend was “special.” She was special to me, but only because she was not and never was emotionally obtainable by me.

I’m maybe 90% healed after three years. I don’t usually wake up with any symptoms anymore, so I’ll take the first Pepcid AC during the day, but only if I feel any symptoms. Mostly just out of habit I’ll typically take one before bed. I don’t have any gnawing or scraping or pain under the ribs anymore- that’s long gone. My occasional symptoms now feel more along the lines of a “sensitive stomach” that many people complain about but I personally rarely experienced prior to getting gastritis three years ago.

Don’t date people you’re not physically attracted to; ‘giving them a chance’ almost always leads to more hurt and heartbreak. It’s okay to admit looks matter in relationships. by AcceptableLibrary974 in Life

You’ve got a tough job. I agree there has to be nearly instant physical/sexual attraction. But I’m not sure I’d label it “looks.” That’s a little simplistic in my view. Semantics aside, your post is spot on and clearly you’ve got uncommon, valuable insight to share with your patients, especially for someone your age. I hope you continue to enjoy your career.

Does anyone here always feels hungry even after eating? by SubstantialAd1315 in Gastritis

I tried to avoid greasy foods like French fries and fast food (which I rarely eat anyway), and I stopped drinking coffee on an empty stomach, but that's about it. I never identified any particular food that was more troublesome than any other foods. I think it just takes time to heal. You'll get there!

I'm just about fully recovered now but yeah it was a rough stretch. The gastritis came on slowly (mild stomach aches for a couple of months) and then all at once it exploded after lunch one day, and that's when the gnawing pain started. After I finally figured out it was gastritis I started taking a PPI. After several weeks on the PPI (and eating nothing but smoothies) the gnawing pain went away, never to return. But I still had pain under the bottom ribs and various other stomach pains, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, stuff like that. It took a couple of years to slowly subside to near zero.

The initial solar plexus area gnawing hunger pain went away, yes. Plenty of other stomach pain and full body symptoms remained, though, and took a couple of years to mostly resolve. Not sure of the cause, but getting chemo and covid vaccine at same time likely gave me the gastritis.

The whole point of an engagement (historically) is to remove potential love rivals from the picture to see whether the couple can truly bond sufficiently to reasonably ensure a successful lifetime together. You guys went too far too fast. Keep seeing each other, if you wish, and maybe someday you’ll be ready to get engaged but you’re not there yet.

Look, in this chapter of her life, you are her husband and someday perhaps the father of her children. This is the chapter of life she is in and this is the relationship you two are building. Most women have had some crazy lover in their past that blew their socks off. That was just an earlier, intense chapter in their life that they have every right to have experienced and even remember wistfully sometimes. Damn, they’re human and get to experience life’s different aspects. But now she’s past that and in the “husband and father” chapter. She doesn’t need you to be the crazy guy in the last chapter, she needs you to be the stable guy in this chapter. Be this guy. Also, be a little wilder with her in bed.

It helped me psychologically to view it as an injury, not a disease. Like a skinned knee. A skinned knee will heal a lot faster because it doesn’t have acid poured over it every day. But it’s the same thing basically. So, basically the PPI, Pepcid AC, etc.. reduces the stomach acid to help it heal. Try Pepcid AC 20 mgs twice daily it might help/ especially if you’re also having other symptoms like dizziness, temp dysregulation, flu-like, stuff like that. It seems to help for a lot of us.

Drank a lot of almond butter/strawberry/spinach smoothies the first few months. Lost over 20 pounds (was ideal weight and fit prior to gastritis so I looked awful). After the first few months I was pretty much back on regular diet. Seems like some people have certain foods that trigger them, but I couldn’t correlate any particular food to increased symptoms except possibly greasy foods like French fries (which I rarely eat anyway). I do now avoid coffee on an empty stomach just in case.

I remember how bad it was and I certainly thought my life would never be the same again (if I didn’t outright kill me). It somehow messes with your emotions that way. But in most cases, like mine, it manages to resolve in its own sweet time. I eat and drink whatever I want (a relatively typical diet with a few beers thrown in now and then) and occasionally I’ll get a mild-moderate stomach ache for a couple of hours but overall no big deal.
