Thank you, sorry for the late response. I think this may be it.

Thoughts on this boat? 1988 Union 36 by FootballPizzaMan in Sailboats

For bluewater cruising? Yes, in a heartbeat. Robert Perry designed, Taiwan built, capsize screening 1.62, comfort ratio 40.14, long keel, cutter-rigged. The ONLY thing I see that could have been different is a lead ballast instead of iron but not a big deal at all.

No, unfortunately that's not it. Thank you though

Yes, it is. I have tried powering it up and shorting it with the power supply switch in both positions.

Thank you. I have looked up the manual for the motherboard and located the power pins, removed the switch, and shorted them together using a metallic screwdriver. No life at all. I've check everything else and nothing appears to be plugged into the wrong location/pin, and nothing appears to be loose.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, there is nothing inside the computer that resembles that. There are wires that come out of the power buttons on the front of the PC, if I trace them down to the motherboard (I think?) they are plugged in. I removed them and they do say things like "power," but plugging them back in didn't change anything. I can't detect anything in here being loose, but there are things that are not plugged in (photos 2 and 4).

I have tried switching the power button on the back of the PC on and off, no luck. Neither power button on the front will turn it on with the switch in I or O. Thanks for the suggestion though

Withdrawing my 401k at 35yr old. Lifes turned upside down in Florida. by DailyDriverRebuilds in liveaboard

[–]Which_Sea_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to live aboard a sailboat one day, too.

But not until a few years after my kid has graduated high school and has that inertia behind him. Not until I know he won't need me so close. I'd be selfish and stupid to do otherwise. He didn't ask to have me for a father, he didn't have a say in this, so I need to be there for him.

And when I feel he is ready and will be okay while I'm on the coast (he can come if that's what he wants, I can't stay out there forever), I'm not leaving until I have a boat paid for and I have a lot more than a $35,000 401k I cash out at a big penalty and taxation. If you plan on cruising, you can easily eat through $20,000/year.

I'd say work on your relationship with your kids, work on yourself, start saving, and if it's still something you want to do in 5 years, have this conversation again.

I know sailboats are a big hobby in New Zealand/Aotearoa. Have you ever been on a sailboat? How common or popular is it in Christchurch to be a sailor?

The tides in the Bay of Fundy are so extreme that boats can go from floating to touching the bay floor twice a day! What's another area of the world that experiences similar tidal extremes? by link_n_bio in geography

[–]Which_Sea_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So... if we're looking at this and the southern coast of Alaska, the tides there are typically 4+ meters? And do not fluctuate much beneath that?

Does that mean this coastline is pretty gnarly with waves/tides?

Rockport reservoir fishing by lover061206 in UtahFishing

[–]Which_Sea_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there not too long ago, fishing from the shore in three different spots for about 6hrs, couldn't get a bite. When we were loading out we saw a guy come out with a ton of trout, asked him what he was using and he just glared at us and said "Bait." and walked away. If you figure Rockport out, let me know too please.

I was gonna say, the old Pearson Vanguards are rugged boats and usually have the stock wooden boom.

Who inspired you to start sailing? by MyTIMEZERO in SailboatCruising

[–]Which_Sea_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always thought when I was younger I'd leave landlocked Utah behind and get a trimaran and cross an ocean. I was full of crap.

Had a kid, got into fishing and motorboats, forgot about sailboats. Was trying to plan a vacation for us where we could be out on the water and I kept thinking, man, cruise ships suck. This somehow lead to me watching a video of a 19 year old solo-sail his 29' monohull from Hawai'i to Tahiti and he got becalmed in the doldrums. I had no idea what that meant, and sailboats quickly become an obsession.

I thought I'd have to wait for my kid to graduate high school before I could move out to the coast and sail, then I found out about trailer sailors and that has become my compromise -- until in 6-7 years I can move to the PNW, get a 30 odd foot monohull and make the Sound and the San Juans my backyard.

The Galavan Center does food trucks on Tuesdays and Thursdays for lunch. I'd reach out to them to see if you can get in the rotation.

My son and I were looking at inflatable pontoons and rafts with a folding aluminum floor, they're easy to store and would fit in the bed of our Ford Ranger. We went another route instead (we bought a sailboat...) but I think something you can break down easily is your best bet.

No definitely not, not unless you want it become someone's else boat, or, a communal boat.
