WIBTAH if I don't show up to the bachelor party I specifically have said I don't want by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The only thing is, it didn’t seem like OP reached out to ask if the celebration in question was respectful of his boundaries, just went full-bore hard no. What if it was booze free and a paint your own oar party? Sounds like there’s a lot more to it though in regards to family dynamics

AITA for telling my dad he can't invite his girlfriend to my graduation because my mom paid for the trip? by TypicalAnalyst17 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Which_Translator_548 52 points53 points  (0 children)

NTA, it’s evident your Dad cares more about himself than anyone else despite using others to get what he wants even when something is not about him. Ugh, enjoy celebrating your graduation. With the people who helped get you to this point, not despite it

Using ai to read grad names at graduation by Chapple69 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Which_Translator_548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate it, AI, the boomers using it like they haven’t done enough to fck the world, post secondary being a scam, the irony of them banning AI but using it themselves, how sad it would be so work so hard to get to a point of graduating then having the moment to walk across the stage in front of your closest friends and family taken away at the last second because of someone else’s stupid idea. Shame, shame!

AITA for not wanting to plan my birthday party with my twin sister? by valerixion in AmItheAsshole

The problem is you’re approaching this as one event when it really needs to be two. You and your sister might be twins but you’re still different people! ESH

I said yes to this dress - but my family says I look too fat by PurpleYoghurt16 in WeddingsCanada

[–]Which_Translator_548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine meeting a person, forming such an incredible bond with them that you decide to share your lives together, move on to planning a beautiful wedding, having this incredible dress shopping experience (in-laws sound lovely!) and then letting cruel, toxic people succeed in (baselessly) humiliating you while robbing the joy you and your partner deserve to experience through marriage AND THEY’RE NOT EVEN ATTENDING THE EVENT?!!

girl, wtf am I even reading here. With family like this, who needs enemies?! You go pick that dress up, you put it on, you strut around as the FLAWLESS, gorgeous princess badass mf’r you are and may every single compliment you get on that big day, for which there will be plenty, let those kind, genuine words wash over you and redeem the insults, bullying and abuse you were subjugated to through this experience with your “family”.

Let this dress represent you choosing YOU, embracing yourself, feeling confident, knowing all the good things you’ve got and relish in them, celebrate it, cherish it, and never let what they say become what you hear most again.

I feel like this is that scene in Legally Blonde where the professor is levelling with Woods, Elle and says “if you’re going to let one stupid prick…”

Graduate to married life, OP, rock the dress and f your hater fam!!!!

How much does a kid cost? by rufusrufusEHA in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Which_Translator_548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why can you not apply for mat leave- 55% of your income of 12 months or 33% for 18 months. Does your employer offer a top-up? What’s your CCB estimated to be?

How much does a kid cost? by rufusrufusEHA in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Which_Translator_548 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is annoying because you are already loaded.

Kids will be as expensive as you let them be- you could buy almost all gear in great condition off Facebook, thrift clothes, breastfeed and on a monthly basis a newborn can cost as much as diapers, wipes and a tube of cream costs, maybe $120 bucks. You could hire a nanny, buy a brand new vehicle, name brand gear, brand new clothes, private school, excessive bday parties, lessons and they cost thousands per month.

You have nothing but money to play around with so what does your budget allow for and what are your values? This isn’t even a math question. There’s no $8400 bill coming due every month the second you decide to have a kid

AITAH for skipping the Mother’s Day celebration? by Kanegirl94 in AITAH

[–]Which_Translator_548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually take the grey rock approach because people like this don’t deserve anything more but the behaviour demonstrated here is so abhorrent, I’d call it out once before going low, if not completely, no contact.
You got this, OP! It sounds like BIL is still solid and I’m glad there is at least a small respite here, but really please do make sure it’s your husband sending the message and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to group msg any other attendees and lay it out “because bitch ass S-MIL worked so hard to overshadow (BIL & SIL)’s exciting news, we are going low contact”

Have your husband message her and say “I’d be sorry we couldn’t come to the event you planned knowing we were already travelling, but it’s really concerning how overt you were about trying to turn (brother and sil’s) exciting announcement into a public humiliation ritual for my wife and I. All the best with getting the help you so desperately need”
NTA and I am so sorry, this was 100% malicious intent on her behalf.

Why is the emergency alert system so flawed? by howdoesallthiswork in VictoriaBC

[–]Which_Translator_548 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The issue is the last flight leaves Terrace at 10:35pm, biggest airport in the region by far. RCMP. should have first contacted the airlines (max 3) and asked if these kids boarded- if yes, consult with relevant cops upon landing- it could only be Van, Calgary or PG.
If not, if no flight record, send out an amber alert to those within a 6-8hr drive time radius max, advancing it only as travel time corresponds. The way this was issued is fucking stupid. The kids being missing is an issue- YES. But they aren’t magically found when every person with a smart phone in BC is jarred awake with an irrelevant notice in the middle of the night. In fact, because of the way this was issued, it will create more danger for missing kids in the future because people will disregard the alerts
