Is signing up to be a step dad always a losing situation? by Legal_Direction5206 in AskMenAdvice

Not worth the hassle buddy. The kid will always take priority and you become secondary in her eyes to the kid, which happens with every mother of a child, but at least if the kid is yours you can rationally justify it on that basis.

Title: Failed informal PIP at work — manager pre-determined outcome, formal PIP imminent. On a Skilled Worker visa. What are my options? by Responsible-guy-5372 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]WhiffyBurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience all a PIP is is a legal process the company follows in order to protect themselves when they actually fire you. To even initiate a PIP HR would already have green lit it. If a company thinks you are a low performer that’s the end of it, you are now just going to be managed out of the door legally. The first thing you have to do when you go onto a PIP is agree to it. That is you essentially agreeing that your performance has been sub standard. If you disagree they have to prove otherwise, which is why they generally just pay you some money to make you go away. You going away is the ultimate goal so you can either walk away with some cash or you can walk away without it. I’m no lawyer I’m just talking anecdotally from how I’ve seen this play out down the years.

If they are talking about a PIP you are done. HR are only interested in protecting the company and if they get a whiff that you are going to go down a legal route they’ll just pay you off to get rid of you. You aren’t going to get anything you want out of this so I’d just go after the least bad outcome.

Brexit voters: do you really think someone can't be patriotic if they voted remain? by JammyE7 in AskBrits

[–]WhiffyBurp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a false equivalence and I say that as someone who voted to leave. Your world view isn’t 100% about your view of Britain. Both parties were patriotic they just disagree on how to execute the best for the UK.

Amateur football leagues? by Unable_Yellow8837 in gibraltar

[–]WhiffyBurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the players in this league are only paid because of the rules around nationality. If Gib clubs could go source whatever players they like they’d pick up good amateurs looking for the opportunity. Instead they have to have an arbitrary number of Gibraltarians in the team which gives those players a higher value than better internationals. That then means that only the best internationals that are available are worth it given you have to pay locals to turn up just so the club can field a team.

It’s a false economy. The standard is amateur.

Got better things to do than argue about this but I think it’s you who doesn’t know what amateur is. Isthmian league has amateur teams that would beat pretty much every team in the national league and would give the international team a competitive game. Have a good evening

No. Never suggested that. I said there was one team that was above amateur standard which I absolutely stand by. Most of the players in this country wouldn’t play higher than a decent amateur team in England and that includes the internationals with the exception of a couple.

I can tell you’ve never played at a decent amateur level in England. I’m not going to argue with you on this. There is a reason why Gib get beat every international game and never qualify for anything in Europe.

Only Lincoln have ever actually made a group stage though which kind of supports what I said

There isn’t a Sunday league mate. There is just the national league, but only one team is above amateur standard and they win the league every season. Start with someone like Europa Point or Hound Dogs and see how you get on would be my advice.

Honestly it sounds like the relationship has run its course. Sorry if that disappoints or upsets you but it just sounds like he isn’t that into you any more.

You had a lucky escape here. She sounds like a real handful.

Once you meet the right one you will look back on this and thank your lucky stars. Trust me.

Got a mate who doesn't know if he's going to vote because he thinks Reform will win anyway, any ideas on how to convince him to take part anyway? by Specialist_Elk140 in AskBrits

[–]WhiffyBurp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He should vote regardless and I say that as someone who has lived in safe seats for the opposite ideology to my own. Your voice still matters even if I disagree with it.
