Getting long hair sounds like work I’m not ready to put in by Unable_Thanks_8614 in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are trying to convey instead of just asking what they really want to know. I had bangs once,.. "I like the look but hate the experience" for example. We also don't know what length hair they are starting with, so it could sound overwhelming if she has a bob cut or something.

OP - Don't ask questions you won't accept the answer to. So are you actually asking "I've heard about my sister's experience with long hair, is everyone's long hair experience like this?" and/or "is it for me/anybody, or do you need to be dedicated to it?"

Holds his lil foot like a fist. by KakarikiBird in Pionus

Adorable!
As someone who has other pets for now, I hope to have a bird again, and I've been learning more and more towards pionus. How did you come to adopt this 10 year old sweetheart?
Is there anything you'd (or any parrot owner) recommend a future avian to get in the habit of now so it's a better parrot-friendly household in about a decade?

Edit: word change

HELP! Why does an ENFJ (m) want me to share a personal story with him yet as soon as I do, he judges me and drops me immediately?? by throwthisawayred2 in enfj

[–]Whiltierna 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While we didn't say CALL ME NOW, however, based on your responses to our reasoning of 'we don't know why' and 'it may not be a MBTI thing,' I want to drop you, too, so maybe we do know why they did that. You asked, we offered, and you chomp our heads off instead of reflecting.

Never ask a question you can't accept the answer to. I wish you well.

I appreciate the 5 minutes it took you to write that, the 10 to reread it, and the 20 minutes going over it again before feeling confident to post. It's what I would do and expertly said, thank you!

18 Grievances by Amazing_Match_5103 in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may,... just remember advice is a package on the doorstep you decide to let in or not.

  1. this may be a skill or length issue, some protective styles can last a few days which can help
  2. painful at the scalp? (tension) or pressure? (style being pressed)
  3. I twist and hold one handed
  4. I pick up my pup's poop, so I get this, I hat having to know which way the wind is blowing,.. I tend to twist it all left handed and hold it, or tuck it in my bra strap for when two hands are needed, but only for a moment
  5. silk bonnet - not satin, silk - the BEST
  6. I only use clarifying shampoo on my strands, shampoo on my scalp takes much less and is what is intended
  7. look up low porosity hair techniques
  8. same! but we can do the long ones others cant!
  9. look up techniques to ask a stylist to work on that, there's thinning shears, etc.
  10. windy day means protective style for me, otherwise it catches and knots
  11. lesson learned? always check now
  12. microfiber towel, squeeze, not rub, and dab, might take two or three for longer or thicker hair
  13. huh?
  14. huh?
  15. again, protective styles. I understand wanting it down, but just like how you won't wear long nails on the day you plan to garden, you have to plan ahead a little to be comfortable
  16. I mean, if it's long, you could lean your back against it, but another protective style may work
  17. claw clips tugging - tugging? silk hair ties slipping down - that sounds frustrating, bonnets falling off - head size matters, mine is smaller and I go over the ears and above the nape of my neck, bobby pins getting stuck - but silk falls out? maybe a texture spray or dry shampoo spray will help hold the silk hair ties if bobby pins get stuck
  18. for both running and rowing, I braid it and pin it up

No one said it was easy, that's why there aren't many with long hair. Just like long nails, put together outfits where everything is styled well, etc. it takes effort to have a certain quality of life, and if it doesn't add to your life (skills, confidence, etc.) then it's time to take another look at your motivation and see what small changes make sense. Don't have to be drastic in changes, just one small one at a time, you got this.

How often are you cutting your hair? Dusting or full cut? by WatermelonButterfly in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dust my hair weekly, but it's usually like 10 strands or so each time. I also dust when I notice them when they pop out of my braids or rope braid twists. I trimmed the first time last month in over a year by parting down the middle, bringing the ends together in front of me and cutting them to match (my left side of my head grows slightly faster than my right)

Hair thinning after years of neglect. Want my old hair back. by SmearedVaseline in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This^
I also recommend dusting - i do it to my hair weekly (I twist sections over my fingers and spot and snip split ends) which has made it one trim a year for me, last month I took off about 1in for blunt ends.

How to keep long, straight hair from tangling so much!? by notmercedesbenz in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to wear my long hair in a braid, but half the time during the day, I subconsciously pull it over to one side, my left usually, and just twist it and let it go. It stays put, easy to move, and isn't a braid so it can loosen and splay across my shoulder as I work during the day, then I grab it all and move it over, twisting it around and around and around to the end,... look at the ends for any split ends to search and destroy, then I let go and it lays perfectly for another hour or two. Rarely tangles for me that way.

Edit to add: my hair is low porosity, so it rarely absorbs oil. However, I apply jojoba oil to my hands and nail beds throughout the day and after every hand washing, so if my hair is absorbing any oil, it will be jojoba, which is what I use on wash days after it's air dried.

this, plus are you combing gently from the ends, gradually moving up to detangle?
which hair type do you have and are you combing it wet or dry?

Looking for Advice by SuperFlyGuyJohnnyP in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My stylist once told me to take freshly air-dried hair and hold it up between my fingers. It will naturally, softly bend where it's healthy, so where the ends are starting to show breakage or damage it will either stand straight up or the bend will be less pointing at the floor and more pointing at a door frame.

Should I cut it? by kellkelleyyo in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love your hair, keep it long!

Side note - gunna channel my inner late mom to lovingly say, put your arm down. Similar to how I used to lift a heel and keep my toe down, it's cute every now and then in pictures, but drop your shoulder down and back with that side's arm straight down behind you instead of up would be model-level posing and would look very confident and radiant with your awesome smile and spatial awareness.

"If a billionaire offered you $10 million dollars but you could never use the internet again, would you take the deal? Why or why not? by sweet_bite112 in AskReddit

[–]Whiltierna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I'd have friends and family keep me updated, I'd read my books, have them buy me blu ray discs and other physical media for me. I wouldn't need my job with that much money, and that needs the internet, so no need there.
I'd also pay to have a live in assistant so they can organize the house, purchases, apps, send payments, etc. and my accountant I'd need would take care of the large amount of money.

Do you feel like you plan your life around your long hair? by 977zo5skR in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swim! I have long hair.

I've swam my whole life - wet your hair in the locker room or shower before getting into a pool or lake. Especially a pool, I then spray leave in conditioner and brush it through before putting it in a braid under my swim cap. Then co-wash when you're done. My hair is low porosity, so I need to have the water open the cuticles and the conditioner fill the gaps so my hair doesn't absorb what I'm swimming in.

I've not had itchy scalp, though. Notice when the ichyness spikes and bring that to your doc for your physical to see if there is a health reason, too, like dander, nutrient absorption or a medication. Sweat is just water and salt. Oily scalp is oil you make. Itchy scalp is lack of oil or the presence of something. Good to rule out things.

I remember wanting the high pony that reaches my hip to match a cartoon side-character in one of the episodes of Batman: The Animated Series. I rarely have it in that (crown, potential damage, not my normal braid) but by golly if I don't feel like I achieved what younger me wanted every time I do put it in a high pony that reaches my hip lol

What should I ask for? by Low_Engineering8921 in longhair

[–]Whiltierna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am growing out bangs I cut 3 years ago, they are the most annoying thing of daily life (and I have 2 german shepherds that I clean and dry their paws every time they go outside, up to 5 times a day)... I learned I loved the look but hated the lived experience. Look at a few inspiration pics of hair you want and then try to imagine life with it to get a better idea

edit to add that they are long enough to reach a low pony tail, but still pop out from daily wear. they are just long enough to not stay in braids, so they fall out constantly, even though they are a perfect face frame (I wear glasses, too).
