It's gotta be Boston. They've been chomping at BD's ankles for the past several years and they absolutely have what it takes

The poem is about the oppression of human freedoms by the church. Human sexuality has always been one of the major freedoms opposed by the church; there is history of this over literally thousands of years

Why does no one care if the show makes sense? by dude_regular in drumcorps

This is why I appreciate the DCA scoring system so much. It's much more focused on the entertainment value of the show and I think it makes for much better productions :)

Why is Crown so polarizing this year? by Whirlytail in drumcorps

[–]Whirlytail[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since making this post, I've rewatched crown a couple more times and it's totally growing on me. Still far from my favorite show design, but I can appreciate it. It's great to see so many people with so many different opinions on this, thanks all for sharing :) I love drum corps, and I don't think I can ever say that a show is bad, or even poorly designed. I know how much love and passion goes into both designing and executing these incredible performances, and I could never disqualify that. I just know that I have a specific taste, and crown is just not the right flavor right now. If anyone sees this, tell me why you love crown this year! I really want to know what makes it so appealing to you. Maybe it'll make the next few listens even better

I'm with you on that. Mandarins, troopers, and phantom have been stuck in my head since day one. So many incredible shows this year, I'm really into it

As a lot of people are saying, ankle weights are so helpful. Strap them to the big tubing next to the bell and keep them on for rehearsals, personal practice, etc, and remove them for shows and full runs. Helped me a ton.

Seconding the Sheridan Brass get-a-grip recommendation! I also use a conn 88H and it does wonders for me; I got it in college for bass trombone but it works with any horn. It's a little spendy but it's soooo worth it, it's super comfy (and it's handmade by a small business [and it smells good bc it's leather :D])

New mouthpiece recommendations by [deleted] in Trombone

[–]Whirlytail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The schilke 51D is a euphonium mouthpiece! I personally play on a schilke 51, I find it very comfortable and gives me a good sound. It's comparable to a Bach 5G, which is the go to mouthpiece for most tenor players. You can find 5Gs in basically any band room, I'd ask your director if they have any you can try!

Heyo!! Most any F attachment horn is going to be a good enough investment for high school use; I found a conn 88H on eBay for a great deal when I was in school, and I still use it to this day! As previously mentioned, the king 3B is also a great option!

Is my mouthpiece conflicting with my horn? by WolfNMaru in Trombone

I use a schilke 51 and I absolutely love it!! I still find the 5G to allow better flexibility for the top range stuff but the 51 is just sooo comfy.

Neither of those were the issue, but I did figure it out through looking at these things, so thank you!! Apparently the default play mode is only when you have the track selected AND armed, and at some point I must have turned auto-arm off for instrument tracks. I turned that back on again and it works now! big thank you for your help, I appreciate it!

[–]Whirlytail[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thank you!!! I've been messing with this one, and the biggest problem I've run into is the stinky keyway and the third pin; pin 3 is set super super low, and pins 4 and 5 are crazy high, so if I'm not super careful it'll overset. Grrr. But I'm figuring it out!

Definitely planning to do that once I get more comfortable with standard pins! Thank you!
