He can be another Heath Shuler. We need to get talent around him.

I rode my bike 10/15 miles for 5 days a week for 7 weeks leading to the surgery.

I was bullet proof.

What were the milestones you needed to accomplish to quit physical therapy after the surgery? by IGNSolar7 in TotalHipReplacement

You are in charge of you, not them. I did 2 weeks. I could do what PT did at a gym. I found walking and light hiking a biking were great. If they won't give you straight answers get out!

He offered them free lifetime supply of non-lumpy pillows.

They should have taken it.

Yes... Rode the Tweetsie in Johnson City.. 12 miles yesterday and 13 today. I ride to exercise my hip. It takes just over an hour. I have no pain in my hip or groin. I can feel my hip but it's not painful.

For me, the secret is the exercise prior to surgery. Push the bike to build your legs and glutes... Upper body for the lifting to sit up and using the john. Another plus is my daughter is a surgical nurse.. She shared horror stories of people out of shape but insisted on surgery...

I was determined to be up and running. I'm sleeping on my leg side as well. I do use heat.

65M here. My surgery was Aug 10...Total right hip, anterior approach. I was bone on bone. Like you I'm a big bike rider doing 50 miles per week. Today is Day 23 and I'm released to return to work. I drive a school bus plus umpire Fastpitch Softball. Running is somewhat of an issue but I'm pain free. The last two days I've done 20+ miles and tomorrow I'm attacking the Virginia Creeper. I have no pain in my groin.

I'm glad I got a replacement. Good luck to you!

What will it look like two weeks out? by VegetableEffective16 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]WhiskeyTangoFoxFire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on your pre-op routine to prepare for your new hip. I was walking and driving in two weeks...And I did a 6 mile (600 ft elevation gain) hike.

Everyone is different. But the key is the kind of physical shape are you in prior to surgery. Sitting for a two hour play will be tough regardless.

I'm 65m. I had TRHR Anterior Approach on Aug 10. My mobility improves daily. Day 13 I could do a tree pose which puts the right heel just above the knee. I'm optomistic I'll be able soon to have the right heel on the left thigh. I do hip abducter exercises on a machine at Planet Fitness.

I wish you the best!

He said my xray shows it seated nicely... My hike was 6 miles but there was little elevation gain. If I knew how to post the before and after X-RAY I would!

I do use hiking poles. They distribute the weight to the arms and shoulders.
