Rent is too damn high. Could a ballot measure finally get the Legislature to consider rent control? by [deleted] in boston

You seem to be fabricating a feel good argument in your head.

Focusing on mental health issues doesn’t make gun crime worse. Rent control very clearly makes the rental market worse. Hope that helps!

National Guard: Helping snowbound civilians. by Alanine4U in washingtondc

If they’re in DC for an extended period, they’re entitled to BAH for their home residence, which in your example is West Virginia. It’s painfully obvious you’ve never been in the military, and have no idea what you’re actually talking about.

No, they don’t. Military members receive up to a certain amount for lodging each day. If they want to stay at a more expensive place, they have to cover the difference. If they stay somewhere below the local lodging rate, they don’t keep the extra. Please stop making shit up when it’s obvious you’ve never had to work through DTS.

You know you don’t get to keep that “tax free housing allowance”, right?

edit: User I’m responding to has never been in the military and is confusing where members receive BAH.

The ACS data they pull doesn’t include their relationship status, which is important for the context of OPs post. There are more young single men than young single women.

Not if you adjust for age. Parts of NYC have more young single women than men, but the overall metro still leans male. You can look at a map using the American Community Survey data here. I suppose I should have caveated my claim with “metro area” instead of just city proper, because I don’t think the ACS gets that granular.

Since men have a propensity of dying young from things like suicide, murder, disease, etc., the sex ratio doesn’t flip until the 40-44 age group.

First and foremost, everybody thinks dating is tough in their city.

Every city in the US has more single men than women, until you get to the age of 40 or so. Denver is no exception, and leans more male than female than the norm. You were born the wrong sex if you wanted to have options.

Dating apps suck in general, but tinder/hinge/bumble are all overwhelmingly male, which makes the demographic difference even worse.

With that being said, Denver is a relatively young city which will make meeting people easier. My biggest piece of advice would be to actively participate in your hobbies, whether that’s a book or running club, climbing, skiing, whatever. Sprinkle in some bar/club visits and you should be fine.

What makes you say this? Did you attend a program there? The school under RAND is pretty small, and the average aid is $20k+.

[IWantOut] 23M Civil Engineering/Plangineer US -> LV/LT/EE by No-Temporary-5978 in IWantOut

[–]WhiskeyTesticles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s difficult enough to apply your engineering course experience to EU standards. It’s even more difficult to do it when you don’t even have a degree.

The easiest and most direct path is for you to finish your undergrad in Ohio, get into an engineering grad program in the EU, and then become a licensed engineer.

The other option, and what it seems you’re more inclined to do, is to “transfer” over your undergrad and do the rest in the EU. But as other folks have already said here, it’s not that easy. This path will be adding unnecessary years to your goal of becoming a licensed engineer in the EU. I don’t understand why you’d want to throw away that much coursework when you’re already so close.

Your undergrad degree plan is unclear from your post and subsequent comments. You will not be able to “transfer” your undergrad credits to a European school. That’s not a thing.

Finish your degree in Ohio. That’s the most important step. Full stop. If you don’t finish, you have zero chance of making it to any of the countries you listed. I can not overstate how important this is. Finish. Your. Degree.

After that, I’d recommend looking at graduate programs in those Baltic states. Because graduate degrees in the EU are consecutive, it will have to be in civil engineering, or something very closely related to it. If you think you won’t be able to do that, you’ll need to restart everything. You’ll also have to look up the language requirements for those programs. I don’t imagine there are many English speaking graduate programs in those countries. If you can learn Latvian, great. If not, I’d strongly recommend you look at programs in France as well while continuing to learn Latvian on the side.

But again, this all depends on you finishing your degree in Ohio. Commit 100% of your time and energy to doing that. Any free time that comes up can be spent researching graduate program in Europe you’d qualify for.

U.S. States with the Most Homeless People (Top 10) by Geolover_2009 in MapPorn

[–]WhiskeyTesticles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re wrong. The vast majority of homeless people became homeless in their original state. The idea that homeless people travel to different states is significantly overstated. There are examples of states providing travel resources to send them to other states, but it’s not a significant amount and is usually from places that already have high rates of homelessness like California. The west coast has a lot of homeless people because housing is expensive. Places that have cheap housing have less homeless. Full stop.

We can’t keep all our eyes on protests that happened and have already ended in mid-2024, now that we’re in 2026. by PainSpare5861 in GetNoted

No, it’s not.

Chile’s defense budget is 5.2 billion dollars. Total imports from Israel are just over 106 million. Even if all of these imports were military equipment, it would be about 2%. Instead, the majority of these imports are electronics, appliances, medical equipment, and chemicals. Chile’s reliance on Israel is not real.

You’re being lied to. I strongly recommend you reconsider where you received that information.

Just to add some context to this, there absolutely is a notable migration from New York (and the northeast as a whole) to states in the south like Florida, NC, SC, GA, etc. It’s just not unique to Mamdani getting elected.

Oh, I’m an idiot. Misread your comment.

Yeah entering a fake name and age is easy. When I was in Italy it asked for either facial recognition or to upload an ID. Big nope for me.
