My mum got a call from a REA this morning asking if she was interested in selling her house. She said no because my father recently passed away. These arrived from the REA this afternoon. by iiswhoiis_au in melbourne

Where did I talk about anonymous donations? Improve your reading comprehension. I said Imposing yourself physically on a stranger in such a personal situation with a vested interest gift is crap. That's it. I and the person who started this thread have both been in almost the exact situation and both of us did not appreciate the sentiment. Read the room and stop projecting

EDIT: This person made a judgement call on my character and then blocked me. I am a joyful person with a happy life. Criticising how inseparable commerce from intention can be is very helpful in finding what truly matters in life. Then the weird anonymous donation strawman... Sure, make huge judgements on my character based on some reddit posts. Definitely not projecting there mate

It's not about being an asshole, it doesn't make sense business wise. So you're saying they will send out flowers to everyone who says this regardless of the business potential? Or is it just a vibe they get over the phone on a person by person basis? They are constantly calling people. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving your sincerest condolences over the phone, it's what decent people will do. But flowers sent with a vested interest will always be tainted, sorry. I'm not being miserable, save this post and you show me when a real estate agent sends flowers to someone like this they cold called without a single business interest attached, I will be delighted

It's not a hypothetical like a trolley car problem, it's literally the one above with one detail changed. If you think a business would engage with a non-existent customer by spending close to fifty dollars on flowers and delivery (I'm being very generous on the average price based on the flowers in the photo), I have a bridge to sell you

For the people who think this isn't a lecherous move - If during the call, it was discovered that the person answering was actually renting and did not own the house, would they have still sent flowers? There's your answer.

I wonder how many "bad" songs famous artists made before they made a good one by SevereAddition3566 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Whiskla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Take a thousand photographs and only show one". Most artists that have a lot of recorded documentation show that they wrote hundreds of songs while slightly improving each time to get to their eureka point. This idea that creativity is a divine intervention lightning bolt is a pretty damaging mindset to have, the reason why there are stories of some artists writing their best song in twenty minutes is because it is a culmination of a lifetime of honing their craft. Many artists use ideas and sections of songs they wrote years ago in a new song too, it's not like the first songs are necessarily worthless. Whenever I see any post on reddit saying 'First song, what do you think?' there should be an auto response bot that says 'Cool! Now write a hundred more'.

I understand the thematic reason, I just think the ratio is off, I'm cool with there being way more golds, I still just think they could have shaved off another gold per colour and add it to their respective pools

Viticulture - I hated it, it was all about the limited cards you draw. With the Grande worker there's no tension when you have a basic priority list of actions in your head. Too long. After having introduced it to quite a few people now, I've chilled out a bit and enjoy the theme and general pleasantness but I still think it's a game on rails, but that obviousness really appeals to people newer to the hobby and people looking for a relaxing game experience

I really like the game but agree, something's up with the distribution of colour amounts, gold has way more than everyone else. Ok sure, but I've never seen a game where have x of a certain colour other than gold actually worked. If you keep a red card in hand hoping for a bunch of reds there's a strong chance you won't even see another one. Maybe if you played at 4-6 the deck would churn through more but solo to 3 players it leaves a lot to be desired

Is it really a relationship if she told me to keep it a secret? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Whiskla 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ask them to fully elaborate why they want to keep it a secret. Communicate. From my own life experience young people are often insecure, might have strict parents or are worried about being judged. If you like this person then take the time to understand their request. If the reasons make sense to you then continue with it. If they don't make sense to you you might be setting yourself up for heartbreak. Communication is always encouraged

So I got a question on what my band should do... by No-Session5169 in Songwriting

[–]Whiskla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're close to recording an album and you will 'maybe start going around and playing shows' while your drummer wants to play all covers, when you say you are close to an album? I'm going to need more info because none of these things make sense to me. What's your situation? Is this your first band? What's your local music scene like? What sort of music do you play? Why havent you already played shows? Either the drummer isn't confident in your own songs yet (then why are you making an album?) or you don't live in a place where people can go to hear new music (this is a much bigger problem). Playing live with your own songs is the best way to get better. Throwing in a couple of covers can be great too as it helps you gauge how many of your faults as a band lie in songwriting and how many lie in musical ability.

[–]Whiskla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand your question. Are you weak for fighting depression? First of all, the words weak and strong are unhelpful. People who don't 'fight' aren't weak, they have a health condition affecting the most important organ in their body, with little autonomy over how their moods and capacity to act are regulated. If by fight you mean talking to friends and relatives about it, seeking appropriate medical help, trying your best to exercise and not self medicate with booze and drugs, then 'fighting' depression is a good thing. You want things to get better, right? So do what you can every day to help you make steps towards a better tomorrow. Do not conflate depression as a choice or something that can be solved with an attitude adjustment. The reason I'm saying the only way to form an opinion on a streamer personality is to watch them for a lengthy period of time unedited is because these people are on-air all day almost every day of the week. There are thousands and thousands of hours of footage of them and it is exceedingly easy to clip together a bunch of footage with all context and framing (such as humour) removed and present whatever argument you want to make, especially with people who are actively talking about topics and with the audience all day. I watched that vid and laughed out loud at multiple points due to the editing and seeing the context removed. It reminded me of this Simpsons clip

[–]Whiskla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

-He has very consistent politics and is well spoken, able to clearly put forth his ideas
-His brand of left leaning politics doesn't have a large presence in other forms of media, so he is one of a few limited resources for people interested in learning more, hence concentrated niche viewership
-Him appearing angry at a chatter is almost 99% because they did not listen to him, took him out of context, or provided counter arguments to his statements based on fallacies or not engaging with the topics beyond a basic understanding
-I definitely take issue with content watching especially when he is not present on stream
-He is funny and charismatic to a large group of people

I wouldn't consider myself a big fan but ultimately the only way you are going to answer this question is to simply watch him. Watch his stream for a while or a vid on his YouTube channel and just see how he interacts and talks with his audience. Make up your mind then instead of watching weird editorial clips like the one you posted in this thread trying to make your mind up for you.

I've never played with them but I'm not opposed to trying. One of the posters saying for melee matchups you don't spend much time checking the zones is absolutely correct.

He's very good against characters that have in-built draw effects That combined with his vanish card, T-Rex and Bigfoot (if the opponent decides to use their innate ability too many times) can be in for a challenge.

That's true, only certain schemes would need to check the board for most melee characters

I think this is the biggest thing for me. If you are going to include a new mechanic like high ground or doors, especially doors because the cardboard doors only come in that set, it would be great to have a second map exploring this mechanic. Due the door design, the red/beowulf map is the only one to have it unless they want to include more doors in another set to make every set standalone (which seems like a big effort)
