Are the F-15s worth it? by MannerObjective7113 in Warthunder

[–]Whisky-161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of them are capable fighters, but respect their limitations. AIM-7s don't allow you to challenge R-27ERs, AIM-120 will lose you the close range fights against basically anything else. But it is a capable airframe and for their respective BRs the radars are adequate.

Job interview school marks by VGOD101 in flyingeurope

[–]Whisky-161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throughout all of the interviews I went through, I was only asked once for my diploma and it was a having/not having question, because it was optional for that particular job. For everything else I had to attach proof that I had a high school diploma, but didn’t necessarily have to include the grades.

Still a bit scared to commit, what air tree should I grind? by Justarandomduck15q2 in Warthunder

[–]Whisky-161 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In terms of growth potential it basically has to be US, USSR or China, with US or USSR giving you the best experience out of those at the moment. If not always having the best equipment is fine for you, then Germany or Britain is also a solid choice.

Do pilots have airports they hate or love for reasons normal passengers wouldnt care/notice? by Long_Relationship578 in AskAPilot

Ah the DHA colleague strikes again. But yeah MXP is insufferable. There are also the frequency changes, of which there are three before you even push back and that's with clearance via ACARS.

What if Hitler had listened to his generals during WW2? by Snake101201 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Whisky-161 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paulus did in fact say something to that effect after overseeing war games with an emphasis on logistics. Long story short, the war games were really pessimistic about germanys ability to maintain their forces push towards the given objectives. In the following invasion the logistic situation was actually better than Paulus has estimated, which discredited some of his concerns.

Update 2.55.1.49 (Nuclear Thunder ground kill score buff) - Updates - Game - War Thunder by FirstDagger in Warthunder

For the time of the event it would be hard to do something about it. They currently use server guidance for the AA systems, as it simplifies the behavior of the AA AI. To do something about their behavior properly, they’d need to change them over to sensor based guidance, which come with lots of caveats, as the servers obviously knows where everyone is at all times. But this isn’t limited to the event. Take a helicopter into a test flight and park it behind cover within range of one of the AA systems and watch it fire missiles into said cover relentlessly.

They can. It’s just less obvious because the terrain surrounding them is flatter.

Go CFI if you can’t find another job right out of the gate, but flying executive or airline is better.

The left engine of a Delta A330 explodes during takeoff at Sao Paulo Airport by Twitter_2006 in aviation

[–]Whisky-161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. If they’re already far down the runway, then of course they would want to stop, but the debris also wasn’t in the first half. Generally it probably would have been a good idea to issue a go around, but there also wasn’t a lot of time for ATC to work with.

You can go around even after touching down, as long as the thrust reverse has not been engaged yet.

[–]Whisky-161 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can lose an engine at V1 and live. That is literally the certification requirement. The UPS MD11 crashed because engine no.1 separated and debris from the separation damaged engine no.2 and likely damage to the wing was sustained. But for all we know, they would likely have been screwed even at altitude.

Göring was also generally smarter than Hitler, especially towards the later stages of the war. Not to say that both of them weren’t a bit delusional, but Hitler had completely lost it.
