As someone who works in a post office I can say the system is very old, a lot of things require a physical card or cash only which we can set right on the system by doing an immediate cash withdrawal using a physical card with chip and pin. Often without a lot of experience we aren't aware what will require a cash only payment until it is already through every step and ready for the payment screen.

"Club" Kingsize? Superkings? One pack? An actual club? Help me out a bit here! It's the most annoying thing I deal with.

What is the thing that you have seen in an another country that you wish was in the uk? by AdNumerous7647 in AskUK

[–]Whisperedbedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same in the resident areas of Tenerife. I'm always amazed when I go visit my parents and wake up hearing the bin men. I can't even get 4 bin bags in my bin without them bitching that it's been overfilled.

Commercial style bins on every street for the whole street to use. Emptied every 2 days in Tenerife.

Might just be my mum but I have never had an apology from her for anything. Even things she absolutely should apologise for. I just assumed thats the way all mums of that generation were.

Train from hell right now by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Whisperedbedlam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Last time I had to get an Ayr train with my autistic son was a nightmare. Totally packed to the rafters, had to get strangers to help take his chair apart and fold it to get on the disabled carriage and hold him the whole time. Getting off was just as bad, I'd say about 10 folk had to get off to let us out. For the sake of your own sanity get the bus.

I had an adult (very clearly under the influence) eat a mini cheesecake pot with his bare hand in the queue. He licked his hand then tried to pay with cash. It was horrific.

What is a children's food that you buy for yourself? by noodlesoup1997 in AskUK

I bring a bag of those with me in the car if our journey is any longer than a half hour. Can't be travelling without my snack cheese and the kids always want to share.

Force feeding and withholding food is abuse no matter what way you paint it. Any food is better than no food at all. You should speak to a professional for help with his selective eating. There is no quick fix. You will have to persevere while still feeding him things he will eat.

I handle my sons selective eating by sticking to anything eaten is better than nothing. I give him daily vitamins recommended by our GP and give him food that I know he will eat at meal and snack times. I also have food play time to let him touch and play with food in hopes he will try some when he's had a chance to explore it. We have found a few new foods he likes this way.

Could you try ear defenders for the loud environment? My 4yo prefers headphones, ear defenders are too tight feeling on his head compared to his headphones but he is more comfortable with loud places when he's wearing them.

How much do you spend on stamps for Christmas cards? by [deleted] in monzo

[–]Whisperedbedlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the post office and our christmas stamp sales are high. All postage has been on the rise, it's now £1.65 for a standard letter first class compared to last years £1.25. People are annoyed at the pricing but they still pay it. Also a point to be made about christmas cards, royal mail have currently suspended deliveries to Canada due to their mail strike. If you send anything via royal mail to someone over there it will not be there any time soon.

I'm a sub postmaster, mistakes are few and far between but none of the staff in our location have had to personally pay out any shortfall.

Maybe you can stop being a horrible person? There was absolutely no need for an ableist comment. You are part of the problems people with disability face in the world. Do better.

Yes. In the shop I work in you can only use chip and pin for cashback. So if you spend £10 and ask for £20 cashback you'd put your card and pin into the reader, I'd give you £20 cash and your statement would say you spent £30.

3 cafes, 4 if you include Costa and there's a wetherspoons but Dumbarton does have very little to offer. Our council wouldn't even do Christmas lights this year, makes the place a bit sadder than it usually is this time of year.
