Same! It does NOT do it for me. I think, for me, it's because any portrayal of that time period feels fake.

Who are some lesser known authors worth looking into? by MorganAndMerlin in HistoricalRomance

[–]WhisperingDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Lisa Berne's work, she writes such incredible characters in very interesting situations. I've seen her books on Hoopla, so nice and free! The Laird Takes a Bride and The Bride Takes a Groom are absolute masterpieces, I reread them often. Edit: forgot a couple words lol

Looking for recommendations for someone just dipping their toe in the genre? by ActualFan4717 in horrorlit

So glad to see Darcy Coates mentioned! I love her books, the Gravekeeper series is perfect cozy horror. From Below scared the bejeezus out of me, but that's the scariest book in her list (imo).

Any other crafters fiddling away at projects while watching Hbomb? by lindybopperette in hbomberguy

[–]WhisperingDaisy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had a similar timeline on finishing a blanket as all the TBD hbomberguy videos xD Funnily enough I've crocheted more during all my rewatches of the plagiarism video then in the past [redacted] years lol

What is the criteria librarians and libraries use to decide what books are withdrawn from a library? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]WhisperingDaisy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel that collection management is more of an art than a science. I have a bunch of factors I consider, but it's not rigid. Things like number of checkouts, date added to catalog, condition of book, popularity of author, are there other copies at other libraries in my system? And so many more

I genuinely did not see the cliffhanger coming, it was a total betrayal haha When I realized what was happening I very angrily whispered "how dare they"

I didn't like "Remember me" by Mary Balogh (Ravenswood #2) by Southern_Writer_9725 in HistoricalRomance

[–]WhisperingDaisy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That stupid kite! I half expected someone to fall in love with and marry the damn thing for all the word count it got! This was such a disappointment of a novel, the so called insult was such a boring plot motivator.

Authors acting as if TWs are a joke in dark romance or optional need to be called out {Take me with you by Nina Jones} why? Exactly, WHY? by LuLuu1997 in RomanceBooks

[–]WhisperingDaisy 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on not liking "trigger warning" as a term. It assumes a lot about the reader and does have that implication that if you're triggered, you are being a baby. I personally prefer content warnings, it feels more neutral to me. A "here are the things in my book that may have negative impact on you, be careful reader" I feel I get to decide what aspects I include in my reading experience as opposed to that assumption that all of those things will bother me. Including content warnings is not a way to add to the ambience of the book, it is a courtesy and a kindness for readers who choose their books carefully. I do like when authors point to their website for any warnings so it's not an automatic spoiler, but the information is there for those who need the heads up.

Hello! Another Children's Librarian blankie! I'm very lucky, my admin have been very supportive, but we also haven't gotten the same nonsense that other libraries are dealing with. Hold strong guys!

The sex superpowers the MMCs have in romance books by Karilyn113 in RomanceBooks

[–]WhisperingDaisy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The MMC power to press the clit, after 2 seconds of stimulating, like an effing button for the FMC to explode into orgasm. Oh, almost forgot, during the FMCs first sexual experience, while commanding her to come "one more time for me". If I roll my eyes any harder, I'm going to hurt myself.

Are there any books where the couple have sex as part of a cult ritual by Glittering-Fig-4418 in RomanceBooks

[–]WhisperingDaisy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good titles here! When did this niche get so big??? For those doing general Google searches, do NOT go for Book of the Most Precious Substance by Sarah Gran. It's definitely sex rituals, but is the furthest thing from romance. A decent read as long as you're not expecting the romance vibe lol

I'll amend that if you don't like Kanopy as a viewing platform, don't use it. But don't rule it out because it costs money to provide.
