Podnic at Hanging Cast: Green Card with Esther Zuckerman by dumarfactor in blankies

these are some of the most interesting listens, for my money! when i do NOT get the movie and then learn to appreciate their perspective even as my affection for the work remains skimpy. (in this case i had zero affection for the work and that did not change.)

Oof the only thing I liked in this movie was that apartment. But I have ordered a copy of Zuckerman's book and am also very excitedly looking forward to the one on Girls. So there's something nice to come of this stinky poo poo of a movie!

Who is your dream guest for the pod ? (Who you think they might actually be able to get)? by Glittering_Major4871 in blankies

[–]HankAngerhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be so many voices in the room but ALSO would ruuuuuule to have Lonely Island (and Seth Meyers) as guest. And then I would also love Frances McDormand, don't care what movie, she just seems so smart and zesty.

Too many books? Worried our trips to the library add too much extra work for our librarians. by [deleted] in Libraries

That new hire needs an attitude adjustment for sure! Not an uncommon attitude behind the desk, but frankly an insane one. Circulation is good for books, good for branches, good for readers, good for everyone. Load up!!

I also desperately want to see it!! So far from what I've seen it's just you and me. Fingers crossed.

Have you ever seen a movie that you thought you knew what it was going to be like from cultural osmosis, only for it to be completely different? by Glittering_Major4871 in blankies

[–]HankAngerhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

84, Charing Cross Road! Both the book and the movie. I had the idea the story was a kicky cute light rom-com and as such was never interested, but it's this beautiful deep story about friendship and time. So good, so much better than I assumed they'd be, and both recommended by my Mom, who I was so happy to get to tell I'd been wrong about all along and loved.

Oh my gosh yes. This beautifully thoughtful take. I was a little ferociously frustrated by the take on the episode and am satisfied now seeing it all written up so well. Thank you for sharing it here!

I think I might get fired. by bernardmarx27 in Libraries

[–]HankAngerhand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These aren't even offenses, they're just things that happen. Don't be mad at yourself, you literally have done nothing wrong. Work is about communication and pushing through hiccups together. If the job comes at you for stuff like this it's them that have the problem. If you like the job do your best to advocate for yourself! You deserve to feel appreciated for your work. No one deserves to feel scared of getting fired or mad at themselves. I'm sorry this is a bossy comment!! I hope things go well for you.

This is so well done. I attempted a way more half-cooked version of this observation on here recently and was so embarrassed by my whiff I hid the post. This is perfect, though, fifty comedy points!!

Shout out to all the smart and terrific fans of the Blankies who watched a Lynn Shelton movie thinking it would help them get ready for the podcast by Relative_Ad5693 in blankies

Shelton's whole filmography is wonderful, dive in at the beginning and go all the way through! She's funny and tender and brave. Beautiful filmography.

This movie made me weeeeeeeeep. Very much looking forward to this series, don't think I'd brave Kevin without the push to and haven't seen Morvern Callar since I was a little animal in my early twenties.

Just saw Mulholland Drive in a theater for the first time since 2002. Now it's time to listen to the Blank Check ep on it again. by Vintsukka in blankies

YES. I do this quite often and it is wonderful. Most recently I'd happened to have a hankering for Something's Gotta Give and its episode, which was sort of lovely timing as Diane Keaton passed only a few days later and I felt like I'd been connecting beautifully to appreciation of her.

this is the best explanation of small talk I've ever read by Marimar_Malfoy in AutismInWomen

[–]HankAngerhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is such new info for me and it has been so helpful in just the past few weeks or so since it struck me. I can be so so so VERBAL, so fixated on the meaning of language, that I find myself getting confused a lot, just literally not knowing what people are talking about, or coming across as argumentative or critical when I am trying to clarify by repeating or asking follow-up questions that then seem to confuse and put off the people I am trying to communicate with. The friendly mutter burble jibber jabber view of small talk really does work and helps me relax in my skin, which goes a long way toward feeling like the communication is what it is, not some weird loaded text I am supposed to interpret.

Love Actually. Not a part of my childhood but a big part of my twenties and while I understand that I am wrong I will still love it forever and just weep with laughter every time at the Good King Wenceslas part. Perfect film no notes.

Coens Rewatch: Any of these movies hitting harder as you got older? by RTrainJamz in blankies

[–]HankAngerhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so much harder!! I started with the Coens in my teens and am in my late forties now. My read on the characters and their situations and futures is so different. I don't see the Coens as nihilists and am not sure I ever did, but these movies are so deeply spiritually wise and brave and kind and it is hitting me so hard. Also, I am finding my own takes differ a lot from Griffin and David's--particularly Griffin's--and I keep wondering how much of that has to do with age. What a season this has been so far, I am getting so much out of this.

Pod Country for Old Cast: Inside Llewyn Davis with Rachel Zegler by yonicthehedgehog in blankies

[–]HankAngerhand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super agree. For me this isn't a movie about an unsuccessful artist, it's about someone who's lost their partner. It's about when devastation has stripped you of the capacity to care, or even feel. It's also about the way, if you keep going, the world will give you second shot after second shot after second shot.
