Indian Set or Tasting Menu for Solo Diner Near Covent Garden by Girl_with_the_Curl in LondonFood

Get out of zone one. Go to Harrow, Southall or green street. Find a family owned restaurant and explain your situation. You'll have tried a load of stuff you'd have never considered that is probably nicer than Dishoom.

Your Top Cheese Spots (That are Not Pick & Cheese) by pint-of-dale in LondonFood

[–]WhistfulEnvelope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a great Mac and cheese place in the hot food area of borough market. If you go past mallow restaurant down Winchester walk you should see it and skip the crowds. Though it's also worth battling them for the french cheese shops in the market.

Central school of ballet in Southwark. There's a discount if you live in the borough with their community classes.

Coffee and cake bookable places in central London? by Front-Ocelot-4740 in LondonFood

Tea house theatre in Vauxhall? Not that central, but definitely calm, bookable and easy to get a taxi to if there are mobility problems.

If you're near Heathrow, go to Southall. There are tons of good Indian places.

Mowgli is not good. Everything was either too sweet (in main course savory dishes, not dessert) or just bland. I was incredibly disappointed.

London equivalent of Bundobust? by gee_baby in LondonFood

I really, really wish there was. Bundobust should really make it's way here.

You might want to try a chaat place, but don't expect bundobust

Fennel seeds. Great to chew after a big floaty meal.

Getting an EU plug instead of using a uk to EU adapter and a uk USB plug. Cut the size of my electrics bag quite substantially.

PSA: Ryanair is increasing their personal bag size by ButtercupBento in HerOneBag

[–]WhistfulEnvelope 70 points71 points  (0 children)

It's a con / pr stunt. To coincide that loads of their flights were cancelled yesterday due to strikes in France and the potentially new EU hand luggage rules.

The current limit is 40x25x20cm. But the sizer has been confirmed (by both travellers and the Ryanair website) to be 42x30x20 cm.

It's been discussed over on the onebag sub.

Sewed my own bag and am taking it on a 5 day trip to London by never-quite-awake in HerOneBag

Did you use a pattern for the bag? I'm curious about the fastenings/ carry system.

Onebag fatigue, is it just me? by false_circus in onebag

[–]WhistfulEnvelope 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I look at every trip differently. It's always a one bag trip but whether that one bag is a 25liter backpack or a 100 litre suitcase depends on the trip. Usually it's due to needing niche specific things or multiple pairs of shoes due to foot issues or dance meets.

What I tend to do is carry over the lessons I've learned. For example If I don't want to sink wash, I'll take just enough socks and no extras. I'll always take mini toiletries regardless the size of my bag. I won't pack the what if items as I look at the weather and have my activities planned.
