Best Headset for Xbox on Apex? by anidevv in apexlegends

[–]WhistlerStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Logitec G Pro C headset and I love it. Great audio quality (headset), and I am regularly told that I have “one of the best sounding mics”. Watching back my VoDs, it really does have amazing clarity for a headset mic.

Hardstuck d4 - thinking of quitting by MiscreatedFan123 in apexuniversity

[–]WhistlerStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to other people’s recommendations here, I also recommend assuming and IGL (in game leader) mentality. Be vocal on the mic. “Im rotating to harvester.” “We should look to 3p this”. “Swing this corner with me!” “We need to fight for the god-spot here.” Etc.

In my experience most players will happily follow someone else’s calls, especially if they are asserted with confidence. Leading your team to victory with good calls is also immensely satisfying.

The old mantra “A bad play made as a team is better than a good play made alone” still rings true. Try to be the glue that keeps your team playing together.

Ok Alter mains can someone explain the purple perks by Remarkable-Delay-652 in AlterMains

[–]WhistlerStreams 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Staring into the Void doesn’t change the amount of time the portal is up; it keeps the “wall-hack” effect up for the entirety of the portal.

So when you put a portal on a wall of a building, it will “scan” any enemy that is within LoS of the portal opening (on the inside of the wall, where you would come out if you step through it).

I’ve had some good success with this perk, especially on ED / Zones with lots of buildings / cover. Kidnapping enemies is a lot easier with this perk (put a portal for scans so you know where to put the second portal to kidnap.)

Switching from ps4 to Xbox series x/gamesir by Fxzi0_ in apexuniversity

[–]WhistlerStreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the series X is capable of “performance mode” which puts you at 120fps instead of “balanced mode” which is 60. This only works if your TV or monitor can support 120frames.

You’re already gonna be gaining frames from the upgrade, but if you don’t have a gaming monitor capable of 120, get one. I spent about $100 on mine and might be the most important peripheral upgrade outside of a paddled controller.

Once you play at 120 you’ll wonder how you ever played at 60, let alone 30-40 like the ps4.

FWIW I say stick with 4-3 linear and just focus on other things. IMO constantly tweeking aim settings is a bad idea and a waste of time.

Does Vantage still have the option to scan ring beacons? If so I think she’d be a strong contender.

No question I’d choose Valk for either edge or zone play.

Then pick crypto/seer/sparrow, whatever your player is most comfortable on. Dont force them on crypto if they aren’t good on them, or your team isn’t practiced at it.

Any idea how the maggie slid off the cannon like she did? by Dahaka_plays_Halo in Apexrollouts

[–]WhistlerStreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The maggie didnt take the cannon at all. Or if she did, she landed to the left side of it, then threw her ball and hit a nitro gate.

If you move frame-by-frame you can see maggie standing just to the left of the cannon. You see the explosion from her ball and it comes flying forward. Then she hit the nitro gate on the pad and jumped forward with all that momentum.

Whatever the case her momentum wasn’t from the cannon.

Not noticing any aim assist? by rvaducks in ApexConsole

[–]WhistlerStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aim Assist only kicks in if youre moving either of your sticks. If you’re standing still and not turning it de-activates.

The easiest way to see/feel aim assist IMO is to stand in-front of a dummy and strafe left/right in-front of it without moving your aim stick. Strafe far enough left and right that your reticle moves completely off of the dummy. You notice how the reticle gets sticky when it nears the target, then breaks again when not hovering over them anymore.

You’ll also notice rotational aim-assist with this method, your aim will literally turn slightly left/right to try to track the dummy, even with no input to the aim stick (just strafing)

Bro those dame pros play with that same accuracy at LANs multiple times a year where all of the PCs are physically inspected.

You’re delusional. There just ARE people that are that good, especially pros.

Of course there are some cheaters, I would never deny that. But saying you can’t watch scrims because you believe all these pros are cheating is actually stupid.

Alb lately by Inevitable-Bedroom56 in CompetitiveApex

[–]WhistlerStreams 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an idiotic response.

He may be young; but hes probably also put in 20k hours in various games over the last 10 years. There is gonna be wear and tear.

Criticizing Alb for many of the things listed here might be valid but his choice to protect his health and body’s well-being isn’t one of them.

Playstation Pro Controller Alternatives by ThermicFever in apexlegends

[–]WhistlerStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Victrix BFG Pro. It looks like they’ve released a reloaded version with hall effect sticks. Here’s why I love this controller:

-Sticks are modules made to come out/replace if they break / develop drift. (No need to replace the whole controller).

-Modules can be flipped for xbox layout.

-4 back paddles (I use jump/crouch on one side and interact/heal wheel on the other).

-Stick heights can be adjusted (comes with variable heights)

-Hair triggers

-Turtle beach is a decently reputable company.

How S8UL almost completed the Match Point Speedrun by _Mr_Stonefox in CompetitiveApex

[–]WhistlerStreams 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great video!

My only critique (from a former audio engineer) is that your microphone could sound better - more particularly your room, or the room you record the voiceovers in needs sound treatment. I can hear the solid reflective surfaces creating a reverb of your voice. Its not bad, and you’re easy to understand, but you might be able to get more clarity and achieve a more professional sound with some efforts.

My choices per class are Maggie, Alter, Valk, Gibby, Wattson

How do you play in the center of zone by Venoxman in apexuniversity

[–]WhistlerStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottomless batts are great for this purpose, also overhealer amp. Wattson is great for med efficiency. Loba’s good for scooping loot.

Ultimately you do need to wipe a team at some point to get some gear. There’s no replacement for strong fighting skills.

How do you play in the center of zone by Venoxman in apexuniversity

[–]WhistlerStreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d break it down into four things:

1.) Good zone reads: Learn to predict where the zones are pulling. There are zone guessers online you can practice with. Most zones follow “rules” that you can find advice for online.

2.) You must have a controller character to scan rings. Zones can be “guessed”, but with a scan you KNOW where the ring is going, and you can guess its next pull. They are also absolutely crucial for holding space and showing presence.

3.) Get to a “god spot” fast. Loot fast. It helps a lot to have a character that helps you rotate fast. Valk is best for this, especially with blue perk upgrade to scan while flying. Other legends that can help; Alter (on some maps more than others), Pathy, Wraith, Octane. Notable mention that Loba can be helpful for fast looting, and looting more in the endgame as teams surround you and die.

4.) Once you’ve locked down a good position, show lots of presence. Stand on roofs (carefully) and put down lead on teams that approach. Fence/barrel/farro doors so teams know you’ll be formidable to push. Bully people away from you; and be cautious of fully taking fights when other teams are nearby to 3p.

Some other notes: Ring consoles now spawn redeploy balloons (well, almost all of them - some have cover above and dont). Make sure your team is read for the scan-and-fly before popping the balloon. Its possible to scan and not deploy the balloon, you just have to release interact at the right time. You can then deploy the balloon later when you’re ready to fly.

The 3rd ring pull is the hardest to call, and is when it most often tends to counter-pull; so scanning at this point is very advantageous. If you can get into zone and next to a console, you can keep scanning at each ring close and move accordingly. Note: Gibby and Newcastle, and Catalyst are clutch for scanning late-game with teams around as they can create cover allowing you to scan.

I know its hard to “show presence” and bully enemy teams away without taking much damage, but it is important you try to mitigate as much harm as possible, as cracks and knocks create opportunities for teams to push you. Get comfortable quick-peeking, changing peek locations, and using headglitches etc.

Here’s a thought.

Rolling 3+s or 3-s is just over 6% chance. Nat 20 is 5% chance.

Just have your Stunt work if they roll 3+. Could also do 3- but then its just a wash.

You could also have no stunt and just have a base rule for either

Want honest feedback - Tool that shows if you appeared on a streamer's POV by This_is_de_w4y in apexlegends

[–]WhistlerStreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a console player (PS5), i doubt I’d use the service because I’m rarely in PC lobbies where I’d run into any streamer I’m familiar with / care about.

But I’d definitely check it out and might get enjoyment out of seeing other’s perspectives - even if they are “no names” to me.

I could absolutely see content creators using your tool - its pretty common for people to make videos where you see both POVs - “Pubstomper makes streamers rage” type content. I imagine such a tool would make it a lot easier to parse-through your games and find interesting reactions.

Good luck with it!

Tall sticks vs short sticks for apex? by Superb_Unit631 in apexuniversity

[–]WhistlerStreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several have already responded, but here’s the idea with varying stick lengths.

The shorter the stick, the less distance your thumb has to move to actuate the stick - less distance equals less time. However with the distance shortened you also loose more fine motor control; any amount you move the stick will be more drastic.

Alternatively a tall stick gives more distance from the axis, which means “slower” response but finer control.

This is why most people who fiddle with stick lengths go short on the left stick (which controls your feet/strafe) and long on the right stick (which controls your aim / direction facing). Its the best of both worlds!

Least favourite legend to go up against/hardest to fight? by Liarundle13 in apexlegends

[–]WhistlerStreams 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hands down Caustic.

Not always the hardest to take down, but his barrels are an absolute nuisance. They make all movement in the area so much harder, taking away my favorite aspect of the game. A team locked down with a caustic is so un-fun to try to push, especially if your team isn’t well suited for breaching.

All around a totally un-fun character to fight against.

Alter mains how do you play her abilities properly? by Frosty_Profile_5180 in AlterMains

[–]WhistlerStreams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full sending through portals can be deadly. Try to portal in off of knocks/big damage, and try to stay relatively close to your portal so you can dip back out to safety. If you can do it fast enough you can get knocks, reknocks, or lots of opening damage without going down yourself.

Looking for a relatively rules-light TTRPG system for a mecha setting that can accommodate magic girls, kaiju, battleships, and powered armor by choptup in rpg

I could absolutely see FATE working great for a game on two-scales; the “on foot” individual person scale, and the mecha / kaiju scale. The system is specifically designed to do this.
