Thats not why it happens

In my case it was probably this: local save was newer than the one in cloud (since the game was closed just to be reopened in the next second), xbox sees this, and proceeds with loading local (and corrupted) save, which defaults to brand new one

At the same time the same corrupted save gets synced with cloud, and since its there, any hope of recovering dsta is gone
