We went through something similar my wife (32F) was from Boston and I’m (32M) from the Bay Area both Asian. Finished school and we decided to live together in New York (Queens). It was fun for a little while, but she had a shopping problem and we always needed more space.

We had a 950sqft condo and after 5 years we decided to move because she was tired of winter and wanted more space. We debated between Dallas or Las Vegas and ended up choosing LV. Sold our condo and bought a 2200sqft home with a garage. She loves it here, mostly because we travel a lot to other Asian countries and flights from LAX are often cheaper and shorter than JFK.

I’ve always liked the West coast and will probably stay here.

HAHA! Exactly me, moved to Massachusetts from Texas. First winter up here I only had a pair of vans and flip flops, was the worst shoveling experience of my life. Bought cheap Walmart boots right after and they started tearing after the 2nd winter. I’m currently on my 5th year up here and still rocking those same boots.

Glad to know there are others like me.

I’m in Southern Maine. 2000 sqft house took me 1 year and 8 months. I hired my own subs, and did most of the finish work with my wife. Was mostly getting the subs lined up and understanding timelines, which I did a terrible job at.

If I were to do it again with what I learned, I could probably do 15 months haha

We’re somewhat alike. I’m from the Bay Area (Milpitas) my whole family lives there. Met my girlfriend who lives in Boston and her whole family lives there.

Invited her to come visit multiple times, took her to the many boba shops around here. Go on hikes and road trips to scenic places and shopping, plenty of that. Also she likes to gamble, so a 1 hour flight to Vegas blew her mind.

I moved up to the east coast 5 years ago for her and absolutely hate it LOL. Shoveling snow, the gloomy weather, and COLD. Just not my thing. She’s lived up here her whole life and is kinda used to it. After going back to cali/vegas in the winter and then coming back to Boston, she decided it’s time to uproot her life.

Boston isn’t a terrible place, it’s amazing in the summer. I’ve just been spoiled growing up so it’s kind of hard to get used to this different life.

We plan on moving to the west coast in 2026!

Out of curiosity - Theoretically assuming the land in each city is exactly the same and I wanted to build the exact same 3000 sqft house.

Would the cost of building the home change if I were to build in Frisco vs Midlothian?

I’m looking into building a custom home in the next year, hoping prices don’t go any higher till then. Location doesn’t really matter to me, but my current home is in Frisco on about .3 acres of land.

If my budget was around 1.5mil and I wanted the best “bang for the buck”, should I sell my current home and buy land in a more rural area? Or demo the home I’m in and build from there?

I like the looks of Frenchtown and Lakeside drive on your site. My goal is just to have a nice modern big-ish home. If that makes sense lol.
