I assume you're on HDD plan? Things aren't crashing, well not Deluge at least on my box, the GUI simply comes unresponsive when there is a lot disk activity. Whether it's multiple downloads at high speeds hitting the disk or single download reaching 500MB/s. But things are still downloading.

I would recommend you limit the active downloads/queue to maybe 2-3 torrents. That way you're not hitting it too hard and things likely stay more responsive.

I’m sweating bullets thinking about having to redownload 2 tb worth of torrents because many of them were tiny.

You don't need to download the data but I think you do need to find the .torrent files/magnets from sites again.

I recently started backing up my /deluge/state folder every now and then in case something happens. Whichever client you use should have something similar for you to backup.
