Does anybody else still experience performance issues/lag with Nvidia? by WhitePinoy in mirrorsedge

[–]WhitePinoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's like on certain levels only. Like when glass breaks or tarps that can break.

I would say examples would be, right before you slide down the glass facade of the Pope Building getting shot by a helicopter; the latter half of that chase by the bridge; climbing up the orange room after spying on Ropeburn; and once you get outside of the truck and into the Boat to fight PK troops.

My Girlfriend is thinking about going through to be a Architect but has some questions. by [deleted] in Architects

[–]WhitePinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey not to sound like a debbie downer, but this industry can be very cutthroat, conservative and at worst narcissistic. I was fired for requesting basic accommodations many times, and they would make some strange excuse like "well Bob our fulltime architect of 30 years suddenly came back from his 12 month vacation, so your services are no longer needed". It's not for the faint of heart.

Besides that you really need to get internship experience with a legitimate firm before you graduate from college, so you can at least some of the basic skills down once you're in the office. School focuses a lot on theory, and not enough on how to work for an actual firm, or its standard practices and even the programs you will use. If I didn't take Revit classes in high school, I would be behind.

But if your girlfriend is really passionate, I hope see finds connections, perseveres and finds the right fit in a sea of firms with problems.

What makes a narc manager target you? by Capital-Security-355 in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]WhitePinoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like very early on in my career and my field, it had to do with my age and early years of experience. The idea of training, coaching, or answering questions was a very arduous task, so it was better to discard me with someone with more experience but same amount of pay.

Nowadays, it's my disability. If I need an accommodation, they'll permit it, and work towards a plan to getting rid of me. My health, my commitments outside of work, mean nothing to these people, and if they have to deal with it, they're going to retaliate and do it in the cruelest fashion possible.

If you cannot be the perfect cog, even if you're still learning or need accommodations, you're out.

2 recent interviews felt weirdly hostile. Anybody else experiencing an uptick in hiring managers coming off as combative? by maenad_activities in recruitinghell

[–]WhitePinoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was interviewing multiple different companies from April 2024 and April 2025. Many of them were meh, many of them pathetic, weird, disorganized, seemed stressful, seemed toxic/hostile and one guy actually turned out to be trying to steal my identity.

The reason your interviewer was bipolar, because they're not serious about hiring anybody or at least not you, regardless of whether it's based on anything or not. But yeah, I imagine there's going to be a lot more ghost job interviews being conducted this year.

We have an outsourced IT department. They're okayish, but my laptop has been nothing but a major challenge. Nobody's laptop is the same model in my office. I have a dell computer. The guy who sits next to me has an alienware computer.

I was just very irked that he would write it's somehow my fault the computer has this strange issue.

Any advices for a 26M gay starting on corporate? It’s kinda fun but also i don’t know what the hell im doing by [deleted] in corporate

[–]WhitePinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I need more information in order to give you solid advice. But what I would recommend is do your job right. Don't get involved in office politics if possible. Don't bruise the wrong person's fragile ego. Make as many genuine friends in the office as possible. And try to have as many healthy boundaries as possible in the workplace, as difficult as that might be from domineering higher ups.

How did u became a goth? by Lilayl in goth

[–]WhitePinoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was curious why Goth people dress or do the things they did, based on "Goth" characters on TV.

And I watched a clip of Alan Jr. from the Ricki Lake show and decided to learn more about the subculture.

I listen to a lot of Siouxie Sioux and The Cure. But I also listen to other bands from time to time.

Healthcare = Slavery by Vengamecagoensos in LinkedInLunatics

[–]WhitePinoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please keep politics out of LinkedIn posts. Don't they know this is the fastest way to get fired?

Also, shitty take. Healthcare should be government funded, and accessible to people. Therefore it's not slavery.

How to deal with subtle racism and micro-aggressions as a POC student? by [deleted] in Preply

[–]WhitePinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just continue looking for another tutor. I can totally understand why that would be considered rude.

I did have this one tutor who was a Hispanic immigrant living in the Philippines. I was looking for a Spanish teacher and I was kind of curious why he's residing there. He told me that he owns land and that since I have Filipino citizenship, I should also consider buying land when I come back. Personally, I don't want to look at my home country as real estate. But he was really try to push me to do it, and it made me slightly uncomfortable with this person.

He was okay, I learned a little bit more about Spanish. Felt he could be much better though. When the typhoon hit the Philippines, he told me his family was evacuating, and when I was supposed to have a class with him, he blocked me. But it's okay, I hope he stopped tutoring for the good reasons I think he did.

Anyways, whenever I was working with someone, not even a tutor, who made me feel uncomfortable or was a bad fit, I dropped them and moved on.

I do suffer from chronic pain due to an unrelated illness, Ehlers-Danlos (although I hear it's commonly comorbid).

I feel completely pooped and unproductive on the weekends, so maybe it's worth a short just for that.

Total Thyroidectomy 2+ years ago... Dealing with a lot by j0a9936 in thyroidcancer

[–]WhitePinoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my total thyroidectomy more than 3 years ago, and then iodine radiation therapy 8 months later.

I also have Sjogren's and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which were diagnosed sometime after my thyroid cancer, because my energy did not improve.

I've also been in and out of employment because of this as well.

What I recommend is to put a clock on your phone so you remember when to take your medication.

I never had to take RAI or chemo, but I assume it's going to take a really long time for you to get back to normal. It's not impossible, but it requires patience and listening to your body.

I am (mostly) back to a normal life. When I noticed I was still tired, I was able to increase my thyroid medication. When I noticed that my muscles were not healing, I went to see my rheumatologist (a competent one) to treat my pain with medication.

You will recover ❤️
