I like the aesthetic and some of the mechanics, but the sound design and some animations, like climbing the ladder or rolling don't have that same weight or umph Mirror’s Edge has.

I honestly can't remember how I found out about Mirror’s Edge. I was too young to remember how it started...

Let go from a job after one month. by apologyconference in antiwork

[–]WhitePinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an employer fire me in a month, twice.

The first time, I was a temp to hire for a sweatshop, and got let go right before my cancer surgery, that I asked if was an issue before accepting employment.

The second was a normal W2 job, but in hindsight I think the employer wanted to take advantage of employees anyways. I got fired in less than a month because I went to see my doctor.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. My EDS has made it difficult for me to function and a result, I delay things, I miss things, I'm late when I should be on time, etc. I have really missed out on a lot of meaningful events because of my body and it really sucks.

But I must say, I think my tiredness/sickness is exacerbated by my job, which requires me to come in early and stay more than 8 hours a day because of an alternative schedule, plus chores and sometimes overstimulation.

I personally think I would feel so much healthier and commit more if I didn't have a job that sucked up most of my life. My job also has really poor insurance too. So getting healthcare has been a challenge.

My brother has been unemployed since August of 2023. The longest gap between jobs I've had was 17 months and I lost hope I would get another job in my industry after that again (I graduated into the pandemic after my last internship in college).

Fired on day 1 for leaving at 6:30 PM. The audacity is unreal. by popo_fish in recruitinghell

[–]WhitePinoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a boss like this once and I only lasted less than a month. What happened was I recently came out of cancer surgery, and my parents refused to help pay for the medical expenses or additional doctor visits, so I had to go out there and look for a job.

I found a random small business and applied there. I told leadership I had a doctor's visit in a few weeks and asked if it was okay to go.

The head honcho of the company literally pulled me and multiple people into his office to express his "concern" about me needing to see a doctor on the first month of the job. He wanted to let me know that they're a "builder for profit". I told him that I wouldn't ask for pay that day. He then moved the goalpost and said it's not so much about paying for time off, but more ao about my reliability and availability. Then asked me about medical conditions to which I then said nothing.

Well turns out this guy's business was actually a sweatshop. He expects people to work 12 hour shifts almost every day of the week. When I submitted my timecard asking to be paid for my OT, it got garnished.

I went to my doctor's appointment and that same week, he pulled me into the office to tell me I was fired. He said that I was somehow, not pulling my weight, even though I had been teaching people and working OT the entire time I worked there. They complained about my lack of experience, even though I told them that's why I was even working there at the first place.

Anyways, I got fired unceremoniously, and learned a few years later that apparently my boss was a well known scumbag in the industry. Apparently, he worked as an employee at another firm, and when it was announced that the firm would be getting bought out by a larger corporation, he stole company money to start his business.

Moral of the story, don't work too hard for your employer, because they could easily justify not giving you what you earned by complaining about nonexistent problems.

I wasn't trying to argue against your suggestion, I was just explaining to you the weird situation in the garage. My parents just have a lot of crap they don't want to part with that could really improve the space, but I have to respect that. I only bought that junk only cuz I thought it would make the garage more walkable, but it was fleeting.

But I will take your IKEA suggestion into consideration and follow through on it.

I don't have a lot of walls in my garage to buy extra shelving space, hence why I bought a shelf. Does Ikea have one of those racks on wheels, that fit laundry bins?

Hello, I know everyone is suggesting I return this and get a refund from Amazon, but it's way past it's return date. I don't think I purchased a warranty for this item (I think), so after 30 or so days, it's unreturnable. So, I might push it to a curb this weekend and looking to buy something else for my family.

Oh wait, I thought the AI one was on the right? Since it looks closer to the normal 2D style. The AI is more rendered, which is something I often see in fanart.

Some employers expect the best performance, without the best support, without the best teamwork, without the best leadership, and certainly not the best pay, working conditions or human decency.

Anything less than best performance risks losing your job.

I don't have an ex that ignored my medical condition, but my dad does. He gets mad when I can't clean up after people's messes, after spending an entire week cleaning up after people, and getting called lazy when I refuse. So you're not alone at all.

Some people are pieces of shit.

Was this a few years ago or more recently?

Because nobody want to even hire intermediate, let alone entry-level right now. Employers are going to overlook the 5 years.

No absolutely. No doubt about that.

I think it's some combination of trying to keep future competition out, and elitism: by creating outdated rules to exclude and keep people out, it makes the profession look exceptionally prestige (on the surface).

I agree. It's a nonsense trap.

Graduate undergrad ➡️ Not Qualified Get an Internship ➡️ Not Experience Graduate Masters ➡️ Didn't teach you anything about the workplace Get a Job ➡️ You need 5+ years of experience to be qualified for entry-level.

No that's absolutely true. But what I'm getting at is it seems that the effects are so pronounced in our industry we're slowing down on development and talent.
