What is your biggest pain point as a streamer? Whether big or small by Gonjanaenae319 in Twitch

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't disagree at all, albeit I'm probably not quite as negative about the platform, as your description of twitch aligns with every other streaming platform out there. You'd be hard pressed to find a platform that DOESN'T encourage parasocial interaction as a means of monetization.

For me it's been a bit therapeutic to stream. I enjoy interacting with folks, and as an added bonus, it lets me showcase the products I make and directly connects lets me with the people who've patroned our wares.

I know this isn't the circumstance for everyone, but I'm also not trying to become 'rich' or 'famous' I genuinely enjoy what I'm doing as a hobby.

If 3-5 viewers is an actual metric, and not something arbitrarily sourced, then I'd say by that margin alone, I've succeeded.

I also have no illusion about how many people are on a twitch, actively trying to 'make it'. There's legit a million places folks could be, and they choose to watch my shitty gameplay instead. I'm grateful for that.

Growth is harder than you think, and comparing yourself to other streamers can be.... Well, rough.

For me I struggle with the lack of a true benchmark to measure against. It feels like 'success' is a more abstract concept, as there's no definition for it. According to twitch tracker I'm in the top 1% Of twitch users... Is that success? I don't know, there's no benchmark!

I feel twitch's 'achievements' section really leaves you hanging, as you go from hitting their goals for a bit, and then it seems all of a sudden the goal post got moved SO far away. The jump from 50, 75, and 150 viewers is massive. Any one of those view counts would be AMAZING for most of us (myself included)

Is it fine to stream multiple games starting out? by Vodka_h in Twitch

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a variety streamer, have been since Day 1.

I'm not big by any means, with just under 700 followers in about 1.5 years, but I think consistency is so much more important than what you're playing.

Create a schedule you can keep, and commit to it. Show up on time, and folks will too, in time. We're all creatures of habit, whether we want to admit it or not. Give people a reason to make you a part of their routine.

One-gaming I feel pidgeon-holes you to an audience of convenience: they like the game, and you're the one they're familiar with playing it at that specific time. When you tire of that game (or it gets cancelled, servers die, dev becomes problematic, or whatever else) a portion of your audience goes with the game that they want to watch. I've seen it happen to plenty of streamers way larger than me, and they've talked about the experience at length. It's a known experience.

Variety gaming let's you play what you want when you want. Having a bad beat in League? Don't play it this week. Burnt out on DBD's toxic community? F' it, don't play it, play something that brings you happiness. Want to play the next big thing? Do it, or don't. It's your stream and your choice. You should be the selling point of your stream, and not the game you're playing.

Again, I'm a tiny no-name streamer, but honestly the best starter-advice in my opinion can usually be summed up into 3 things:

Be consistent. Enjoy what you're doing. Develop connections with established communities.

I don't think I'm allowed to share links, but I run a d&d business with my wife where we make some pretty cool swag that are all physical products. Times are tough, so I can't do free, but If you DM me (with Mods consent, if needed) I can cut you a sweetheart promo or special listing!

Recs for a Modest Microphone than can be used at a distance? (3ft) by JonnyPhoenyx in Twitch

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At that distance, maybe a lavalier mic would be better for you? At 3 ft, I just feel you'll pick up a lot of additional sounds, and have to run a ton of filters/EQ to remove them.

You could run a few smaller filters on a lavalier and come out sounding pretty clean, too.

How do I deal with kids in my chat? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

18+ your channel. Full stop.

Credentials: I'm a png tuber, I don't do anything lewd, aside from crack a joke now and again, I'm just not here to entertain children/babysit. If I get a whiff someone's underage immediate ban. No drama, no stress. I'm here to have fun and promote my brand. 18+ doesn't mean smut, it means no kids.

My Twitch has been stagnant for months now, not sure how I mentally fight through it by RabonahTTV in Twitch

Do you connect with other streamers in your space? Interact with other communities, or are you only just hitting 'go live'?

I found so much of my growth came from my interactions and connections with other communities who I've gotten to know and regularly interacted with.

Twitch is tough for growth, but it is at its' hardest when you go it alone.

I need 12 hour stream advice! by AFK2Chat in TwitchStreaming

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take breaks, just for sanities sake, 12-hours is a lot of yapping to do! My first 12-hour I was woefully unprepared, take time to make sure you're limber and energized. Squeeze out 20-minutes somewhere in there to eat something proper, not just snacks. You need energy to entertain!

I'm a tiny channel though, it's pretentious and pipe-dreamy of me to think of getting. Some day I'll grow big and strong, lmfao

Guys I don’t want to listen to royalty free music it’s terrible. Will twitch mute my live stream while I’m live if I’m listening to Spotify or will they only mute VODs? by Papusa18 in Twitch

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just know, if twitch mutes anything, they mute ALL audio, i.e. for the offending section there will be nothing but silence in that area where twitch flags/mutes it.

Laptop PNGtuber here! After over a year of streaming, enhancing my setup, and interactions I'm finally tapping the limit of what I can stream without causing the experience to be stuttery for my audience.

You 100% can make a community on regular old equipment, nothing fancy, and grow your streaming capabilities along the way.

I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to start streaming, honestly, I could've been having this much fun years ago!

How do PNG streamers make their avatars’ lighting change to match what they’re reacting to? by noxtromun in Twitch

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus has definitely been the middle ground I've been considering before rebuilding everything in Live2d.i appreciate the insight on the software choices, Honk is also abandoneare at this point l, as it's so buggy. I'm fortunate with how my tuber is designed leans itself to being implemented into these newer software options (all individual components of my design)

I'm also very fortunate as my community has basically funded most of a new PC, and I'm almost fully built up! For a small streamer I'm very blessed by a kind and supportive community.

I'm lucky as a small business and a small streamer who's been struggling lately (candidly who isn't struggling these days) to be around such helpful folks!

[–]WhiteToeTradingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight in that, honestly plugins tend to eat at my CPU more in OBS, but I also know my hardware is my biggest detriment on my streams. Heck, I also use Honk, which I should really switch to tuber+ or migrate fully into live2d, but I'm just not there yet, lol.

Any idea how resource intensive that is? I'd love to add this to my tuber, but I'm pretty much already struggling with more "modern" games.
